NBA Draft Rounds 4-5

I can't get back on till 6 so whatever the community decides to do with Frank is fine with me. Whether that's a replacement or just disregarding his team. I'm fine with either one.

If it is a replacement I believe they need to make 2 picks. Draft board on OG post should be updated. I'll most likely make a new thread after it reaches the end of this round.

Gossie said he couldn't pass up three straight seasons of 200+ threes.

He also said that because Duke was his favorite team of all time, that he couldn't believe the greatest player to ever live had slipped so far, but I think I was supposed to leave that part out. I dunno, you'll have to take it up with him when it's time to vote.

Anyway, Gossie selects Jonathan Clay Redick, G, Philadelphia 76ers.

Also, I may be pretty unavailable for a big chunk of the day until late afternoon, so it might be best to send those picks elsewhere.

I'm going to be like everyone else.

There are several players I want, but I think one of the best ones that hasn't been picked is at the helm of a team with 2 of the 3 best bigs in the league. He's a hell of a defender who can hit an open 3 if left unchecked. Averaged 15 points per game along with 4 rebounds and north of 7 assists a game (which I expect to go up this year). He's had some seasons where he didn't play all of the games but, knock on wood, his last 2 seasons haven't been all that bad. I'm going with the lead man out front for the New Orleans Pelicans, Jrue Holiday.

Ill grab some scoring, 3 point shooting, and playmaking to bring it at the 1 or 2. Give me goran dragic.

I was shocked melo fell as far as he did. I didn't want him on my team, but I thought he'd probably be a 3rd or 4th round pick. Dennis Schroeder was a good one though. I had forgotten about him.

Similar to LeBron, Melo has never been a player who completely relies on athleticism. He's never been an incredible leaper from what I can tell, and uses crafty moves and a high release point on a great jumper to score. He's 33, so for the next 7 years it's tough to see where he'll be, but his game shouldn't have to evolve as he gets older. It's simply a matter of health and his willingness to keep going. It's a very good late pick that I'm shocked fell this low as well, despite me not wanting him.

See I didn't want him either because I don't like melo lol but even at 33, his style of play could give him 4-5 more good years in the league, especially coming off the bench for me. Couldn't find a better 6th man lol and it was too hard to pass up for me at this point. I have enough younger guys anyway

Well I'm not sure where this guy is, because it's 11:47 am where I am, but if he's going to bed late and has to be up early for work, it could be as few as 4-6 hours. If he's going to sleep in, longer? I'm not sure. This is going to be a long wait I feel.

It's difficult having someone on night shift with all others on day shift, because it's one pick holding up all others. I feel for grover having to work the night shift, but could we not just give him a player to keep things going while most of us are on?

Wouldn't touch Melo.

His scoring and rebounding keep dwindling. He plays no defense. He's (rightly or wrongly) viewed as a loser and bad teammate and he's 33.

He shot like 40% from the floor this year. So while other stars might be productive into their late 30s, the only way Melo is effective is by playing a style he's not good enough to play anymore.

Since we're in for a bit of lull here I will defend my name and my pick. First of all I didn't know JJ's name was Jonathan Clay. How do you get JJ out of that? Shouldn't it be JC? Maybe he's a junior so it's Jonathan Jr. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this.

Next, I'll not have my name associated with Duke fandom. They are a loathsome bunch over there and I have an unlimited supply of scorn for that program. The worst development in basketball over the last decade or more is the Duke-flop. It's become such an epidemic that I wish they would just remove the offensive foul from the rule book.

Nonetheless, JJ Redick is a specialist, he does one thing on an a level few in the NBA can match. He shoots 3s with a career average of 41.5% and has hit 200+ 3s in each of the last 3 years. His age is obviously a bit of a concern especially when we're looking at a 7 year stretch. So I anticipate we will have to manage his minutes on the tail end. It's not unprecedented for a SG to stay elite late into their career. Ray Allen put up a 37.5% season at the age of 39. John Stockton shot 36% at the age of 41. Steve Kerr shot 39% at age 39. Dale Ellis shot 43% at age 39. So we're just going to project JJ will have a similar career. Because why not.

Nice try Duke lover. Perma-ban!

Shouldn't we make a new thread? Did it after 1-3. Might as well do it for everything else since this ones up to 7 pages, no? We're getting into our 8th round if my count is correct.

He was the other guy I was thinking about when the Klay as a top 3 three point shooter debate came up.

Hard to argue with Redick's production in recent years.

Klay hasn't hit less than 200 3s since his rookie season, and has never shot under 40% in his career.

I know it's early, he's only been in the league for 6 years. I still think, if not for Steph, Klay would be the #1 three point shooter in history. At least he's projecting that way. I suppose he could go on a Jay Williams motorcycle (mis)adventure and become a parapalegic. But if everything holds to a normal career arc Klay will be #2 when it's all said and done.
