NBA Draft Rounds 4-5

I just don't agree with the notion that Fultz is unanimously the #1 pick.

Like @Aike has said Boston gave up the #1 pick clearly they weren't impressed with this HOF talent. Lonzo at the end of the day has proven more in college and "NBA summer league" so far. Yes I know we are talking very short period of time.

You can't remember all the way back to 2016 and Ben Simmons?

Similar to Towns, you had voices arguing for others. Vast majority, yes. But he was not universally beloved. There was all the chatter about not going to class and the NIT refusal to play and his attitude with teammates during his documentary.

Davis was the most recent I can remember. Kyrie before him. Wall wasn't unanimous. Some folks said Boogie.

A lot of it has to do with strength of the draft, but this was a good draft class. Also often means the analysts over valued the other candidates, like in Towns' case.

Just saying you don't often see someone be the clear cut top pick and end up being a bust.

Find someone who doesn't write for Bleacher Report that said anyone else should be the top pick.

Boston had an MVP candidate at his position that they knew they couldn't trade so they punted to pick up a top 5 pick next year hoping for a big man. They knew if they kept the top pick they had to take Fultz.

Besides, if we're using Ainge's decisions as a barometer, Gordon Hayward is better than Paul George. And only Gossie would try to argue that.

Come on, man. Towns was as much the consensus pick as Fultz, if not more.

But Fultz was such a surefire HOF lock that Boston didn't even think they needed to keep the pick.

Other similar consensus picks were Simmons, Wiggins, AD, etc. In other words, every number one pick for years other than 2013.

Don't be revisionist. Tons of chatter about Embiid going #1 over Wiggins and there was a loud drum being beaten for a different big man over Towns because he was "more ready" and "guaranteed 20 points per night."

lol this is a debate over two guys that could end up being role players for all we know. This isn't lebron vs Jordan. Some #1 picks are surefire all stars, others are hit or miss. I'd say fultz and ball both fall into hit or miss.

Tons of arguments. Lonzo Ball made it clear he wasn't working out for any team not named the Lakers. Number 2 argument Celtics will have to pay Thomas 200 Mill after next season thats a lot of money for a 28 year point guard who cant play defense (exploited in playoffs)

The idea Fultz was unanimously #1 pick is laughable and I think this will be shown to be true when Lonzo wins ROY next season.

Besides all I'm arguing is that there is and was a case for Lonzo going #1. I just laugh at the idea it was case closed and shut Fultz all the way.

There's always chatter. Was this year too.

Really only one doofus was beating the drum for that other big guy in the 11th hour. And Embiid wasn't even a lock at 3rd, let alone 1st, because of his injuries.

No seriously. Fultz was far from some historically mortal lock. Nice player, though. Maybe even the best in the draft class.

I think the semantic difference is between unanimous and consensus. Consensus in the sense that someone can be a consensus All-American without making every team.

In my opinion, there have been several consensus top picks in recent years. I would include Fultz in that group.

Unanimous is a tougher group. AD was. Kyrie was (in a very weak draft).

This year was more like 2014, imo. I would argue that KAT was an even bigger lock than Fultz. As a Laker fan, we knew for quite some time that there was no way KAT was falling to 2.

Edit to add: The 2011 draft turned out to be not so weak overall.

When i get home im going to make a list of who i want and just go in order with whos top of my list that hasnt been picked every round.

As of now, I have no idea who im taking for my 5th pick. I hate my last pick, realising I should have gone Simmons. I wanted love or wiggins lol. Should have put simmons at the 4, whiteside at the 5 and go for a shooter as my 3. Still loolking for a shooter actually. Derozan and westrbook arent dead eyes from deep.

Gonzo is the master though. Because a one year rental of PG and 4 years of Hayward are exactly the same thing.

I'd only need him for a year.

Once my team wins the first title I'll let him walk in free agency so Kevin Durant can scurry over and piggy back a ring.

Doh.

Just realized we were arguing separate points. Consensus, absolutely. Unanimous is what I was debating.

I believe unanimous was what I said initially. If not, just ignore me. I'm sure most people already are. I would.

Are we drafting coaches at some point?

Not this year. We have in the past, even did organizations at one point (training staffs, facilities, etc) but they don't seem to go over well or matter much to most folks.

Would maybe be more fun to draft college coaches, but yeah I don't think that should make any difference

No kidding. I drafted Pop last year and got voted down because of his age. As if his coaching skills were diminishing over the next 5 years. It was pointless.

I personally think its going pretty fast only thing I would change is 12 rounds to 10. Typically its only a 8-10 rotation anyways.

Yeah, it is going pretty fast given the time limit. Feel like the majority of us are active, and if everyone was active we'd finish within a day. If just a few people are slow it can drag it out several days. I do understand everyone is busy.
