UK fan base

Surely it's the younger fans right? How could anyone who's suffered with this program for 20..30 years, or sat at what used to be a dump of a stadium in Commonwealth and watched unmerciful beatings every Saturday have a problem with where the program sits today? My god, for the first time in my lifetime UK football isn't a punchline. Every summer there's actually hope. And we actually kick the shit out of our instate rival who has a pretty good program. I hope Stoops finds some fire out of all of this, because it's been a blast. And being that every other coach, philosophy, or gimmick has crashed and burned here, there's no one else I want leading this program.

Thoughts on the KY v Louisville game going forward...

I will say every year going into this rivalry game Louisville will have a gaudy record because they play in the ACC
Our record may not be great every year because of the conference we are in
We will be the underdog every year and the national pundits like Lee Corso will pick Louisville
But playing in the meatgrinder SEC conference will have us more than ready just like this year.
This game was great. We knocked them out of any chance of making the playoffs. We did it at a packed stadium at their place on national TV
It's called peeing in somebodys Cheerios.

Texas and Oklahoma Changes Everything

Cheating, NIL under the table payouts, and leagues good old boy network will be the downfall of weak teams in the SEC. The UK fan base has no idea of what these two teams bring to the SEC in sheer crookedness. The 70s, 80s, and 90s and into the 2000s Oklahoma and Texas football was the best with the veer and wishbone making Darrell Royal, Barry Switzer the hot coaches of the day.

These teams along with the traditional SEC powers will do whatever is necessary to win. If UK is not prepared to have the same attitude they will end up like most football fans fear will happen. Sucking hind tit where a 7-8 win season become based on the schedule of weak Non Sec games.

Mitch being Mitch the poliltician

What a joke.

1. You give an unnecessary 9M but the bigger problem is thru 2031 (a 9 year guarantee) last year after losing at home to Vandy.
2. So Stoops was flirting with leaving 12 months after the contract above was inked....Texas AM fanbase pushed back and the deal is nixed.
3. So why is there no clause to for UK to pull out of contract but Stoops has little resistance (a small buyout if he leaves) if he wants out.
4. These football deals are so lopsided to coaches. I look for that to change in a hurry. You cna't just flirt to leave and the school holds all the downside.
5. UK fans and the freaking AD should realize while Stoops has done a solid job but UK was going to low bowl games every year 2 years before Stoops got to UK. He did lift the program up which is his credit but the program is sliding back (losing at home to Vandy, Mizzou and USC) and next year could be a non bowl season....that is how bad it looks.
6. FInally, this ain't 11 years ago. THe landscape not just of UK but of college has changed a ton. The SEC and Big10 are where the action is at. And even lower jobs in those conferences are gigs that are in demand more than ACC, PAC and B12 jobs now. So to argue UK would never get a good coach....bullcrap. (There is a reason Brian Kelly left Notre Dame for LSU).....and all the TV money, NIL deals, etc are in those 32 teams.

Leary Interception Perfect Example of Frustration by Fans/Coaches

Dude has one of his best games all year then nearly loses us the game with the dumbest QB play I've seen in some time. This kinda play is exactly why UK hasn't had the season we expected. QB play been woefully underwhelming. Not sure if we need to stop getting transfers and go back to developing freshmen QBs or what. But last 2 transfers been underwhelming. Levis much better in game than Leary but he was limited.

Special Teams wins game and improved in every stat from last year

Return touchdown, 46 yard field goal, and 5 extra points. 14 points. Difference in the ball game.

Field goal percentage improved from 67 to 90 percent (10th in the nation)
punt return improved from 5.1 to 9.1 yards
Net punting improved from 36.6 to 37.4 yards
Kickoff return improved from 18.7 to 27 yards per return (4th in the nation)
Kickoff defense improved from 23.9 to 22.4 per return

Remember last year when we couldn't attempt kicks because didn't know if we could snap the ball?
These stats don't account for all that mess.

Contrary to arrogant jackass radio personalities, new special teams coach was humble upgrade from last year.

It's early but some remarkable offensive stats for new and improved Cal (Welch??) model

6 games in (and not the toughest of schedule..yet), but here are UK's national rankings in various stats:

#2 in made 3 pointers per game with 12.3 (Mark Pope's BYU team is #1 with 13)
#2 in Assists/Turnover ratio at 2.45
#3 in lowest turnovers/game at 8.2
#4 in PPG at 94.3 PPG
#5 in 3 Point percentage at 42.5% (Miami is #1)
#7 in offensive efficiency per Pomeroy
#8 in assists per game at 20
#9 in Effective FG% at 59.7%
#12 in Fast break points at 19.3 PPG
#15 in attempted 3 pointers/game at 29

ESPN radio says Dabo being courted by A&M

Heard this coming home from the grocery this morning. No idea if true.

Dabo has a much easier road to playoff with Clemson and the ACC, imo. Now, does Clemson continue to recruit well in the age of NIL (and the huge difference between conference money compared to SEC) and with a significant reluctance to go heavily into the portal?

But, he'd surely be expected to contend for championships very quickly if he makes the move while he still enjoys a great deal of goodwill at Clemson.

Again, no idea if this report was accurate but heard it on ESPN radio this morning.

WTF was WA's coach thinking?

Very gutsy call on 4th and 1 - gotta give him props. But, at the WSU 20 with no timeouts for WSU in a tied game, he throws TWICE, one of which was almost intercepted. Why not run up the middle, call TO with 4 seconds and kick the FG to win (which they did later after taking a sack)? No idea why he thought throwing was better than running a play to give his kicker a 35-yd FG attempt in the middle of the field. Anyone explain that one?
