Sumrall

It seems as though he is the top candidate to replace Stoops who obviously wants out. We will most likely have an opening in the next 12-24 months.

Sumrall has done great at Troy in the Sun Belt, but so did Brown. Satterfield dominated the Sun Belt as did Napier. All of those have been miserable coaches in Power 5 conferences.

Hopefully Sumrall moves on to at least a mid major this year so he can prove himself against better competition before he comes to UK.

Sumrall thread

Too much energy going around tonight not to speculate. Let's discuss.

Sumrall is the best fit IMO for all the reasons previously discussed.

But also here's the easy formula with him:

-build a top level SEC staff, no more promoting QC guys to give them a chance. Pay him 5-6 mil and use the rest of what was going to Stoops for the assistant pool.
-Recruit the GA/MS/AL guys that Sumrall made a killing on here
-Have multiple recruiters in OH/MI. Makes too much sense not to stay there even without Vince.
-Keep the best in state kids here.
-dip into Middle Tennessee and Northeast
-lastly: keep Coen. He's legit. He likes Lexington and I highly doubt he wants to pack up and move to Texas after the year he's had. Plus, him and Sumrall get along well from what we've heard.

This is all a clear formula to make us into a perennial top 25 team that can challenge for a spot in the 12 team playoff. This is what we want. Tell me how I'm wrong.

POLL: Stoops

Are you glad Stoops is not leaving ??

With all the controversy, drama and the speculated turnaround in his decision-making process ... it will be curious to see how the players and fans react. Will he now have to WIN everybody back and convince them that his heart is in the job here at Kentucky ?? The relationship has certainly been fractured, but to what extent ?? Time will tell ...

NIL issues

Now that last nights excitement is over, lets talk about tge biggest issue that plagues this program.
Stoops was 100% correct with his comment after the UGA game. It was just bad timing. I read UK is 13 out of 14 in the SEC in NIL fundraising. This isn’t going to get it done.
Is JMIs contract hurting that much? The Kentucky population doesn’t have the deep pockets as, lets say TX.
Is Mitch still not 100% on board with NIL? How do we better compete in the NIL world?

Our Program no matter what

We will continue to agree/disagree with one another on how it get’s done and who can actually get us over the hump so we will argue, name call, etc… but the fact of the matter is we all love our team and program and want the best. We just have different views on how it gets there so this message board is exactly a good platform to agree/disagree

SEC records

We are tied for eighth. I saw the top 5 in conference are kinda happy. UT is ahead of us but I am sure they are not happy. The teams under us are not happy. I am not thrilled with some of our losses. But if you check the sec I am sure a lot of teams are sad. Just a tuff place to play. We are mostly competitive with most of the teams. We had some bad records that have been removed. 31 years to UF, UL drilling us quite a few years. Hopefully we can catch a break and move up some!!

What I have heard about the Stoops/A&M rumors

I've heard from about 5-6 different people from very different places in the college football/sports media landscape. Not everything I have heard matches up 100% but I want to give you an update since it's a significant topic.

** Confident that Mark Stoops is indeed a short list candidate for the Texas A&M job. Have heard other names mentioned like Ryan Day, Dabo Swinney, and others, but the folks I've spoken with have talked up the Stoops possibility which leads me to believe if the others are considered unlikely or almost like a formality of gauging interest. But in A&M's case I think they are really looking into everybody just because of the amount of money they have.

** Have not heard about Stoops' interest in the same way I've heard more about how he'd feel about Iowa (there would be real interest from what I've heard), but A&M is the kind of job that most guys in Stoops' position would take. For what it's worth. You can say UK is paying him $9 million so why would he take a similar amount just to have crazy expectations. Number one, I don't think A&M's expectations are all that crazy for the amount of talent they have been bringing in. Not unreasonable for them to want to lose less than 5 games per year, IMO.

** Right now believe it or not I am pretty much expecting it to happen -- i.e. A&M making Stoops an offer -- barring a late major development with one of the names mentioned in the beginning of this post.

** Also have a pretty good sense for what direction UK would probably go if this does go down.

My Final Thoughts.

Overall this is a messy situation for both sides. Just from my conversations it sounds like UK Athletics were ready for this to happen, and had a shortlist of guys already compiled if he did in fact leave. The main thing I'm worried about is getting these players locked back in. They were in the dark just like we were. Does Ferentz retire this year? Probably not. If he does retire does Stoops entertain that even though he said he's committed to this season at Kentucky? All I know is that after this whole situation I don't think we can just move past it and not talk about it. There's going to be hurt on both sides. I'd almost just say it'd be in our best interest if the Iowa job opens. I understand the people who say "I don't want a rebuild" or that "I'm too afraid to take a risk for a reward." It's fair, but we're headed for a rebuild either way with or without Stoops. In my personal opinion it'd be better if the Iowa job opens,Stoops takes that,no hard feelings because we have always known he would leave for Iowa no matter what. We hire a guy and start a rebuild. Now that we have more resources than we had in 2012 I don't think it'll take more than 3 years to get back to 7-8 wins. Obviously in an ideal world you're consistently winning 10+ games a year. That's not saying it'll be easy, because it most likely won't. However,I think a culture reset is needed. I just feel like Stoops at this point is waiting for that Iowa job now.
