Cal has taken my joy

Just like all the other millions of boys born into this BBN world, I've been a fan since birth, love UK basketball and loved March madness every year because we were always in the running to make a deep run! But thanks to Cal, I honestly don't enjoy basketball no more, and there is nothing fun about March madness. Really hard to put into words my true feelings about the state of our basketball program, and Cal has us by the balls and he's not getting fired and he's not quitting. This sucks!

The NBA doesn't want Cal to be fired or leave.

Because there will be a huge talent black hole in the NBA if Cal isn't there to develop all of its players and get them ready for professional basketball. Can you imagine how bad it will be with the NBA not having anywhere to get players? It will be unwatchable and unmarketable.

And never mind all the poor kids out there who will never make it to the NBA if Cal isn't here at UK to masterfully prepare them. We need to think of the children. And the NBA.

Cal burned out

I think the guy is burned out. He began his D1 head coaching career in 1988. 36 years ago. How many can do a job at the highest level for nearly forty years? For the last 15 years he has been in the biggest boiling pot in college basketball.

He went from "I can't hide you" to "I’m not trying to take anybody’s heart away"

He basically said it himself during his 2018 Big Blue Madness speech:

"But let me say this: It may feel like yesterday, but one look at me and you can tell what it's done to me. You people have beat me up. For some reason, it hasn't affected Ellen. But I've aged in dog years!"

I think his Little House on the Prairie and sitting with his dogs statement was a joke but humor always has a seed of truth.

His diminishing results show he is toast. When he came here it was all about March performance and championships. We have our March results and there is no way to get around the numbers.

There are a few questions: Will he hang on for ego or the money? Will the school try to buy him out? Will the lower bowl at Rupp still be mostly full next year if he is still our coach? Guess we will get to see.

Women’s coach

It seems like there may be a pretty big name in store, based on what Barnhart is telling the folks that donate to the women’s cause. I read it on KSR this morning, and I’ve also heard from someone that is a what you would call a booster of women’s sports that I know pretty well ( Mitch / UK actually talk personally …and fairly often….to the select few that consistently support the women with $$. ) . It’ll be interesting to see who they get.

Did anybody catch Cal's pregame comments

''Anybody saying, you have to win this game, or you have to play like this. No, you're not a fan of this program. Because you're putting more pressure on these kids''.

Is this where we are? UK expectations that were upheld for 70 years, are suddenly too much for players? Was it too much for Anthony Davis, MKG, Teague, Knight, Miller, WCS, The Twins, KAT, Ulis, etc etc? What a complete joke.

Seriously, where do we go from here??

I just can’t see him coming back to run this program so I predict a negotiated buyout then he takes the Michigan job. So where do we go? Is Hurley the first call??? Be shocked him ever leaving there cause what’s the pressure at UConn?? Then who?? Mitch wants Drew from what you guys say but I just don’t know if that excites the program, I don’t want a retread former nba guy either so who??

“This team was special”

seen this several places tonight and just want to point out this team accomplished exactly nothing.

This was a terrible season. 10 losses, didn’t win the SEC regular season or even a game in the SECT. Several humiliating home losses and then knocked out in the first round of the NCAAT.

Only thing special about this team was the level to which they underachieved.

Without extraordinary talent Calipari is a less than ordinary coach

And that’s just the way it is.

X’s and O’s and strategy ain’t his bag. it’s all about possessing overwhelming talent and if he doesn’t have it…well, you’re screwed.

I always judge a coach by adjustments they make or fail to make. Outside of spewing cute catchphrases I don’t see him doing anything.

Also, as I’ve said before, I’m sick of this generational wealth bullshit. There’s a lot of generational poverty supporting this program and that’s the side that I’m rooting for.

Kentucky First.

Time for a change.

Calipari is An Employee and Needs To Be Treated As Such

Cal works for UK. He has a boss/bosses. They need to call him in on the carpet. Make it red hot miserable for him. Lay out what is to be done or else. First maybe he will resign if they do. Second the accounability needs to be restored. He has alienated himself and thinks he is the show. Winning at a high level allows that kind of arrogance. Losing does not. Turn up the heat to a level he never dreamed of. If he doesn't meet with bosses or comply, find a way to terminate his contract based on grounds of insubordination.

In season tournaments are a must

This thread didn't go far last time. This thread may not go anywhere this time. Teams that play in in season tournaments are better prepared for the postseason. I realize playing the 250th team in KenPom gets us a victory in 4 out of 5 years. Not wanting to go to Maui or the Bahamas or Florida or wherever else these damn tournaments are, is a sign of not wanting to compete.

Folks. For me this was my eye opener that turned me 100% against Cal in 2019.

Arguably the greatest college coach in NCAA basketball history LOST in the E8 of the NCAAT with this roster. And we have Cal.... Need I say more. We lost to them by 34 points. We were #2 at the time. It just proved to me what a very good coach with men (Izzo) can do against freshmen in the NCAAT. And we have Cal.
