Lets help these kids out in Lexington

Fellow Rupp Rafter dwellers

The school furniture manufacturer I represent here in Kentucky is doing a national contest to give away a $40,000 classroom renovation to a deserving school. Northern Elementary School (Bryan Station) here in Lexington is a finalist, and they're leading by 1% with two days to go.

Their STEM teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Ms Wilkerson is incredibly passionate about her kids and their community, and she put a lot of time into their design and video submission.

I could go on and on about all the reasons this would make a huge impact for the next 15+ years of students to come through that school, but for now I simply ask for you to take 5 seconds and vote at the link below for Ms. Wilkerson's STEM Classroom so these Kentucky kids can have the kind of classroom they deserve.

If you really want to help, please share with others and vote from multiple devices.

Thanks everyone!

Cal has ruined this years team

This team had it all going for them for this season. This was supposed to be the season! The last 3 halves though show we can’t do the basics. Can’t defend, can’t rebound, can’t even pass and catch the ball. That in and of itself cost us the tamu game. It doesn’t matter what he’s trying to put together for March because by then we will end up a 6/7 seed.

Games to keep an eye on this week

Obviously we play Florida Wednesday and UT Saturday. Need to win both. I think as of today, we're probably a 3 seed. If things break right, Kentucky is in the 2 seed discussion next Sunday.

Monday:
Duke plays Va Tech on the Road
Houston plays Texas on the road.

We've seen conference road games can be a bear.

Tuesday:
SC @ UT. SC CAN beat UT. They probably won't beat them in Knoxville. But would be a nice upset. Only downside is they come in to Rupp fresh off a loss.
UNC @ Ga Tech: Probably an easy win for UNC, but Ga Tech does have wins over Duke and Clemson
Illinois @ Ohio State: Some of the brackets have Illinois above us. Perfect spot for them to fall down a peg.
Marquette @ Villanova: Most of the brackets have Marquette above us. Go Nova.

Wednesday:
Baylor @ UCF. Baylors another team hanging around us in the bracketology. UCF knocked off Kansas earlier in the year.

Thursday:
Wisconsin @ Nebraska. Nebraska is good enough to steal one at home. Wisconsin currently ahead of us in most brackets.

Friday:
Butler @ Creighton. Creighton is ahead of us in most brackets. Butler is #54 in the NET. It would take quite the upset to do it on Creighton's court, but fingers crossed.

Saturday: All Hell breaks loose.
Uconn @ St. John's. St. John's is solid, #36 in the NET. They'll be fired up and Pitino will be ready.
Marquette @ Georgetown: VERY unlikely to happen, but we've seen good teams lose to terrible teams on the road.
Houston @ Kansas: Someone has to lose. I think we're neck and neck with Kansas currently. A win over a top 5 Houston team may give them a big boost. But we should also get a big boost if we knock off UT
Auburn @ Ole Miss: Another road game for Auburn against a solid SEC team.
Duke @ UNC: Duke is behind us in most of the brackets I've seen. A little breathing room wouldn't hurt. Also wouldn't hate a loss to UNC to make the 1 seed line a little more vulnerable.
Iowa State @ Baylor: Again, Baylor neck and neck with us and even ahead of us overall on Bracket Matrix.

Stoop’s biggest asset and best attribute

Is definitely his ability to attract and manage staff and promote continuity. I know I know, we have gone through a lot of OC’s. But once we got the right one he managed to bring him back a second time and seemingly keep him against the threat of another NFL opportunity. Let’s face it, a lot of times stoops leaves something to be desired in the coaching department. But he has done a really good job of bringing in attractive assistant coaches and keeping them. He seems to be a good people manager

Getting wofford back as our OL coach is huge. Just huge. It’s rare to see talented coaches circle back to a place where they were before. I’d be willing to bet that he re-purposes yensor as well instead of firing him. Let’s not forget the grace in which he treated Eddie grann. He gave him a parachute and grann was happy to stick around. A place like Kentucky will never be a talent hotbed or an elite name. But continuity will keep us out of the cellar. Props to stoops in this area.

Sunday discussion.. UK makes the final four if…….

Outside of the obvious answer “win four games”. What adjustments and keys do the Bennies believe have to happen to make a run come March. I’d like to preface this isn’t meant to be a Cal bashing thread but a discussion of how we can actually make the run we all want to see happen. Regardless of the recent struggle the pieces are certainly there.

Favorite Coach Cal Quotes???

A few of my favorites..............

“What do you do to help us win when you’re not scoring baskets?”

“Nothing is given to you. You’re going to have to work for it.”

“I need people who look at adversity as a challenge and failure as a learning opportunity.”

“Improvement is not just about working harder. If you're a drug addict and you work harder without recognizing what your problem is, then what are you - a better drug addict? You've got to admit to a bunch of people what your problem is and then figure out how to change it.”

"What type of teammates do you want to play with? Be that teammate yourself."

"I'm playing the guys who are going to fight. If you're not into this, I'm going to someone else."

Dear Arkansas Fans

Big Blue Nation thanks you for hosting ESPN gameday college basketball for the first time at Bud Walton Arena. As I understand it, it was a smashing success ! Selling out games for Kentucky, creating a circus like atmosphere, for what is undoubtedly, every S.E.C. team's Super bowl basketball event EVERY time Kentucky comes to town, has been a hallmark of this conference ever since I started following Kentucky basketball almost 50 years ago. So this thread is in tribute to YOU, Hog Fans ! A HUGE THANK YOU !

Now, I know Arkansas has had a tough season, and losing to Kentucky was no moral victory, as your coach so eloquently alluded to. I understand it takes some of the excitement away from the days' festivities to lose these games, so better luck next time. And I feel compelled to mention that when the gameday cameras were showing the lovely Kentucky - clad baby girl, that the boos were loud and boisterous, and when the cameras came back to show her once again, Hog fans doubled down to rain boos upon the pretty blue bow wearing baby girl. Perhaps it was karmic that the Hogs went on to lose the game ? Maybe it can filed away for future reference ? I'll let you decide.

Nevertheless, such a spectacle reminds me of the time way back in the 70's when me and my father went to games at Stokely Athletic Center in Knoxville, when Coach Mears had the Tennessee team led out onto the court with his player riding a unicycle to kick off that circus way back in the day. Flash forward to the 80's and 90's, LSU became well known for lowering their mascot TIGER from the rafters. Of course, in this day and age, Kentucky fans look forward to T-Shirts being distributed in the appropriate school colors ( did Arkansas have them printed up this time ?) and I imagine this is why so many Kentucky fans find a way to get inside the building for these long sold out events, just to nab a tshirt to commemorate another Kentucky road game, usually ending in a win.

Arkansas overall record drops to 14 - 35 against Kentucky. That's a fair bit better than most other schools, so there's always that.

Congratulations on another road circus, your super bowl is now over. It's unfortunate your team dropped to 10 - 10.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Cowboys crush the couch this playoff season

They got blasted last weekend and would have lost just as bad last night against SF. When will it ever stop and they become a worthwhile playoff team?

Luckily baseball season is around the corner for @MidseasonTweak for his beloved Yankees. Not sure what scene Asheville has for watching baseball but I would assume its better than a place like Wrigleyville.

The official “I’m here to eat it thread”

Everyone is wrong at times. It’s the nature of message boards and social media to rub each other’s faces in it. I’d dare say it’s even fun. I’m guilty myself. There’s been lots of bad takes on reeves and the like.

I don’t think we have ever had a thread where everyone can come in and lay all their bad takes out for everyone to see. I’ll go first

-I said if we had to rely on Ugo to play more than 10 mins then we are not a tournament team.

- I said if Reed has to play the point he would not score a point.

- I said Edward’s would be our second highest scorer yikes!

- I said Z would never play a second and I even had a solid source on this one

- I think I also said playing 5 out would not increase our ppg average. Wow.

Come on yall. It will be like therapy.

I’m as hard on Cal as anyone here, but

I will give him credit for moving Shep to the point after the under 16 timeout and getting Wagner out of the game for a few minutes. Let him watch Shep run the point and he seems to have been able to figure out what UK needed after he came back in. He wasn’t perfect, but he was much better. I honestly don’t believe they win tonight if Cal did not make that move.

I know it is frustrating to us that maybe he takes to long to make changes and his lineups can be head scratchers, but I thought he coached much better after making that move early in the second half. Playing Ugo more was a good move as well.
