Norman Jewison RIP

https://nypost.com/2024/01/22/entertainment/moonstruck-director-norman-jewison-dead-at-97/

He directed the famous 1967 Sidney Poitier movie “In the Heat of the Night,” the original “Fiddler on the Roof,” the 1968 thriller “The Thomas Crown Affair,” starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and the 1987 Nicolas Cage and Cher rom-com, “Moonstruck.”

Jewison was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Dorothy Irene (née Weaver) and Percy Joseph Jewison (1890–1974),[3] who managed a convenience store and post office.[4] He attended Kew Beach School and Malvern Collegiate Institute, and while growing up in the 1930s displayed an aptitude for performing and theatre. He is often mistaken for being Jewish due to his surname and direction of Fiddler on the Roof, but Jewison and his family are Protestants of English descent.

The new approach against this year’s team

Slow the game down in every single way. Bring the ball up slowly. Dribble the ball an extra dribble or two before passing. Throw a few more meaningless passes around the perimeter. Send absolutely everyone to offensive rebound so UK can’t start their seamless transition. Play a faux zone defense where everyone sits just inside the three line to block inside out play.

Maybe the teams that have played this way have done so by virtue of their players. These games are the games this year’s UK team struggle in; it makes for some boring, dogshit basketball and I’m afraid it’s mostly what UK will see for the rest of the year.

Drop to #10

That doesn't surprise me . Got smacked in Columbia and on surface struggled with a bad Arkansas team.

Now Duke had a huge win against Louisville :) and needed some help at home to beat Clemson . They jumped 5 spots to #7 .. of course they did .

Made for TV matchups next Saturday . Three top ten showdowns back to back to back . Probably only reason we stayed #10 :)

Football INSIDER NOTES

** Liam Coen was supposed to visit Ryan Montgomery a week or so ago, I've heard, but it has been re-planned for tomorrow. He will be checking in on Montgomery on Monday. I still think it's probably a long shot to add Montgomery on the heels of Boley, Saunders, and Vandagriff (the last not really applying to Montgomery so much) but remember in the portal era you have to take the long view. Good to keep a close relationship and they love Coen, clearly interested in his job status at UK.

** As of last check it seemed like first or second weekend in April is the most likely date for the spring game. That has not been determined yet.

** Is there still a chance OC Liam Coen could end up somewhere else? Folks have been asking, there's just nothing new to report. There have been some situations (Ohio St, Cincinnati, Tennessee, etc) so you can't rule out the possibility, he is clearly well-respected. I do think you just have to accept that his name is going to continue coming up as long as these coaching situations are in flux, but at this point enough time/jobs have passed that the chances of him being back for another year seem much more likely.

** There have been rumors floating around about a possibility of Stone Saunders reclassifying to the 2024 class. I asked around and everybody told me that was news to them. At one point I wondered if that could be in the cards just to create a better depth chart situation, but as of right now it looks like they will probably evaluate the situation in the spring and determine if there's anybody else they should bring in.

** Haven't heard anything new on a pursuit of cornerbacks from the portal. They have obviously continued kicking the tires and a cover corner has to be the top remaining priority.

** There is a real possibility Eric Wolford brings in another OL or two from the portal. This is happening, confirmation on that and Yenser being out.

** Expecting Martels Carter Jr the top player in the state and pretty much all the other top players in the state to be at UK's junior day on Feb 3rd in addition to a strong contingent from other states. More on that as we get closer to this weekend. Colorado is a school I have wondered about with them. I guess Carter is related to a guy who is pretty tied in with Deion Sanders but you gotta think Kentucky's got a great shot given the relationship with Cutter Boley and him being in KY now.

On3's final top 25 prior to Feb signing day

Saw this today, maybe old new but hadn't seen before, and thought it was interesting that 13 teams from the SEC were in the top 25. Ganga 1, Bama 2, TX 6,LSU 7, AU 8, OU 9, FL 11, TN 13, TA&M 17, SC 19, OLE MISS 20, MIZZO 21, and UK 25.
The SEC is going to be crazy good for the next few years. I just wonder how much TX & Okla entering will affect SEC recruiting. Wondering if more Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and other more western states might look more at the SEC.
