Opinion: Justin Edwards

Ok I’m getting punked for this. For sure. Welp… here we go.

I think Justin Edwards has really played well in recent games. I understand the argument. He’s not the superstar we thought he was, he makes mistakes on defense, and the rim seems to have an unbelievable ability to stop him on dunks.

However, he’s actually been very efficient on offense the last few games. He has been quiet about it, but he’s put points on the board and has accepted his role. On defense, he’s making typical freshman mistakes, but he’s improving. He’s one game away. I really believe that he is going to have a game where he dominates, and it’s going to set that kid off. If Edwards clicks…we’re as unstoppable on offense as any team I have ever seen here. I mean…we average over 90 points so we’re pretty darn good. But if we have Edwards doing what he is capable of…yikes!

And he COULD be very good defensively if he takes it seriously. He has the ability.

*** Official CatsIllustrated Kentucky v Clemson Prediction Contest ***

Welcome to the Official Kentucky v Clemson Prediction Contest!

Follow the rules below and make your prediction. I'll publish the results after the game. You can put any comment you would like below your score prediction (put '***' after your prediction to make it easier to separate the comments) but try not to put anything above your prediction as my scripts may not be able to find your prediction.

The rules are simple. Whoever predicts the correct winner with the score closest to the actual score wins. The method of determining your score is to take the absolute value of the difference of your guess of the Kentucky score and the actual plus the absolute value of the difference of your guess of the opponent score and the actual. You now don't have to have the correct winner to make the list but you incur a penalty of the worst score of those who picked the correct winner. In case of a tie, the tiebreaker is used. In case of a tie in the tiebreaker, we have more than one winner.

I will be awarding points for the first 10 places and including a bonus of 3 additional points for making a perfect prediction. I will track cumulative point totals and the number of games you make the top 10. This contest will end after the bowl season.

Your post should look something really close to what is between the lines below. Remember the ":"s and the word "Tiebreaker:"! Do not!! use a "-" as a separator because some of our tiebreakers can be negative.

This week's tiebreaker is Kentucky Passing Yards.

Kentucky v Clemson game:

--------------------------
Kentucky: 24
Clemson: 28

Tiebreaker: 176
--------------------------

Just cut and paste everything between the lines above into your reply and then modify the scores and tiebreaker as you see fit. If you don't know how to do that, type very carefully. Remember to type in the word "Tiebreaker:" so that I can find it. Anything my scripts can't figure out will not count.

Don't edit your post or try to post a score after the game has started.

BTW I really would prefer exact names for the teams, but whenever we play Louisville, I'll make an effort to accept any name you can think of that is not obscene.

@Deeeefense

Shout out to our American soldiers Dec 25 1776 edition

Lengthy tweet from James Woods attached. He tells the story of Washington’s surprise attack on the Hussein soldiers on this date in 1776. The Patriots were on the ropes and Washington’s bold strategic attack probably saved the cause of freedom. The sheer audacity of executing such an attack on Christmas Day in such adverse conditions undoubtedly contributed to its success.

Something we don't talk about

or at least we don't talk about enough.

Coaches look for a point guard to have a 2/1 assist to turnover ratio. This year the team has a better than 2/1 ratio. That ladies and gentleman is elite. Last game it was 23 assists to 6 turnovers. The team leaders in turnovers are Rob and Reed tied at 1.6 per game. That's just stupid good. Can anyone remember a team that valued the basketball as well?

Do you think PSU fans are getting tired of Franklin?

They have a good program. Win 9+ games almost every year.

However, they're clearly #3 at best in the B10 annually. Now add in USC, UCLA, OR and WA and that may not be true. Have consistently gotten walloped by OSU and MI most years. Bowl record is not outstanding.

PSU draws 100k+ to big home games. Tons of fan support, money and good in-state recruiting. Are PSU fans going to OK paying Franklin the big bucks to finish 3rd-6th in the new B10? I wonder.

The Antonio Reeves appreciation thread

With all the hand-wringing and consternation about rebounding, defense, and who should start, can we take a moment to appreciate what Reeves is doing? Dude doesn't force anything, almost every shot he takes is a "good" shot, even when he misses. He's driving more and making inside shots, getting fouled, and even has a couple of alley-oops. He's humble and smart, always moving without the ball, and doesn't get flustered when he's frequently the focus of the opponents' defensive stoppers.

You can talk about Reed, Dilly, etc., but AR is our MVP so far, and it's not close in my opinion. Fight me.

Confess Time

I would like to know how much of the OC & DC plays called are
over ridden by Stoops or does he tell them what he wants done.

If White was told to go into s prevent defense he has to do what
he is told but maybe he wanted to play more aggressive. If that's
the case then the defensive disasters seen often in not on him.

I would bet Cohen has restrictions too.

Stoops needs to man up & let the fans know what the hell is going on.

Saban has the best method going. He gives you the job & you get it
done or your gone although I am sure he has input but I would bet
it's not even near what Stoops does.

It would be interesting to know just what is happening.

O' Well 1 outa 2 isn't. A bit disappointed

in the FB team, turning the ball over 4 times in last 1/4 and losing the game. But the BB team went as I exoected and won rather handily. Looking more and more like a contention team come march/april. Lots of fun to watch and all seem to be on the front burner. Even Burks has a few moments last night. Hoping and anticipating a great season, even though the "experts" pick us 4th or 5th in SEC. Games are played on the court not in a newspaper office with a pencil. We have the players and they seem to rely and look for each other on the court,

GO CATS show em.

Something I didn't know. Former UK player(84-87) James Blackmon Sr's son Jalen Blackmon plays for Stetson

He's a 6ft 3in guard who is tied for 2nd in the nation with 24.1 points per game and shoots 46% from 3 on nearly 9 attempts per game. Recently dropped 32 in a game against 11-2 Cincinnati. Didn't have a great game against Houston but managed 11 points

There is a plethora of former college basketball players' sons in college basketball today. Just neat imo to see guys you saw growing up have children who also play the game. Especially ones with ties to Kentucky basketball or even in the case of Reed Sheppard one who is a UK bball legend.

Whatever the spread is for the Orange Bowl. Take Georgia!

FSU not only lost Roddemaker, the backup QB to the portal. They will be missing 15 starting players on offense and defense. That includes their QB and top 3 receivers. They already has a hard time scoring. We all know Georgia would dominate anyway. When it comes to depth it’s no contest. Curious if anyone else had seen this.
