Dan Hurley, We NEED YOU

I have been saying this all year. Dan Hurley is the first call, no matter what happens to UConn this post season, we need you. I know you're probably going to win back to back titles.

Imagine what he could do with this team.

I know some think he won't come here.

If Dan Hurley resurrected this program, he would have a better legacy here than Uconn.

Look, if Roy Williams can leave Kansas (blue blood) and go to UNCheat and win 3 titles... maybe he can too...

Calipari: What Changed?

You all can add what you want....but there was a change in the guy. Well I've made my reasons...

1. Stubbornness
He just will not change. That's where it started...he's going to do it his way. The BEST part of Cal was his passion to prove people wrong. When he got to Kentucky he was at the top of his game and wanted to kill everyone...

People can say what they want...but it started with staff changes. Coach O/Slice left...he went with Justus. Justus just could not recruit. We missed out on 1-2 pieces that would've put us over the top a few years. He also just WHIFFED and had some busts. Then it was always waiting at the last minute...he'd spin it as OLD CAL is back blah blah. Then he refused to adjust to play his best players. Won't listen to fans, media, assistants, etc.

2. The Game has Changed, Cal's style is outdated for today's game
I think Cal had the perfect model for the 1990's through the early 2010's. He was innovative. He had a system under the old game....there was less space and it was less 3-point reliant. He want long athletes...play man to man defense....and make it harder on everyone. The athletes could then get out in transition, draw fouls at the rim, and just physically dominate the game.

2015 was the start of the Steph Curry revolution....2018 was when NOVA really showed us what to do. Also, the foul calls...in 2011 we could play 6 guys and win a title....you need 8-9 now. You can't use your body any more...it's harder to defend. The athletes you need to play Cal's defense are younger...and then they're gone as they're in the draft...but being younger they're not as good with their footwork. And then the older guys you get as transfers aren't as athletic. Cal can't play the

Notice that gone are the days of Derrick Rose & John Wall types....you can't play those guys and score. Back in 2020....that team would've been great in 2008 IMO with their length alone...the offense would've been bad but it wouldn't have been as bad overall...but it exposed fully Cal refusing to adjust to shooting. Then...he got shooters and refused to play his best 3 guards the last 3 years. He played Wheeler against all odds....he wouldn't play Reed/Reeves/Dilly together most of the game. The style he mastered is gone.

3. Freshman aren't as good...
As the rules have changed...it's made it harder for freshman to succeed. When it's a shooting based game....they can't just rely on athletic ability to mask their flaws. Justin Edwards would've just killed everyone in 2012....today his lack of offensive skills are a glaring hole....I personally always say that MKG would not be great in today's game. They also aren't good when they have to focus more on footwork.

But also, you can see the top freshman aren't as good anymore. AAU culture or whatever has produced a generation of kids that just don't belong. But also...I will say the extra COVID year has made the country a lot older too...but you can tell these kids aren't the same. You used to see 10 freshman or so just look the part and 2 maybe 3 look elite. You're not seeing that anymore. They're just not getting it done.

When we finally get Cal out (hopefully in 2 months) How long before preseason Tourneys?

So when we finally get Cal pushed out or fired, how long will it take to get into early season tournaments again? how far in advance is the Maui tourney planned? would it be 3-4 years from when Cal leaves? Thats one I'm really looking forward to even watching on tv again, never the less I think I'll try to go to one so I can scratch that off the bucket list.

Andy Staples on Cals Contract

Basically Cal is not owed $33 million upfront, he isn’t owed anything upfront. Kentucky would have 6 years to pay the full amount. That’s $6 million a year, so let’s say Cal leaves for another job and his salary at the new job is $4 million, that would offset the buyout cost and Kentucky would only pay $2 million a year. I think it’s doable, Mitch’s legacy is riding on the biggest decision of his career.

Cal's rosters have potential, they don't have talent.

Before anyone takes this as a defense of Cal, it's not. His roster construction strategy is outdated and doesn't work. He's the guy who is ultimately responsible for putting the team together.

Everyone has been saying all year how talented this team is, but is it actually? Is it real college basketball talent? No. It's a team full of prospects who may be good in two or three years. But it's not full of guys that are good now. EvanMiya puts together great statistics on player efficiency and how good individual players are. This team only had two in the top 100. Just two. Rob and Reed. Reed is 6 and Rob is 36. Edwards is 143, Reeves is 160, Bradshaw is 193, Mitchell is 280, Thiero is 746, Wagner is 966 (!). Nobody else in the team is in the top 1000.

How does that stack up against other teams this year?
  • UConn has six in the top 35
  • Houston has five in the top 60
  • Auburn has six in the top 100
  • Marquette has four in the top 100
  • Purdue has four in the top 100
  • UNC has four in the top 100
  • Arizona has four in the top 100
  • Duke has four in the top 100
  • Iowa St. has three in the top 100
  • Tennessee has four in the top 100
Our team had prospects, it didn't have college basketball players. The freshmen strategy is outdated and doesn't work anymore, and there are objective statistics showing it to be true.

We obviously should have beaten Oakland. Zero excuse for this to happen twice in three years. But this team probably wasn't going far even in the best case scenario.
