Big Z - Being Aggressive toward the NCAA

Coach Cal has recently said it time to be more aggressive toward the NCAA WITH regard to Z’s eligibility. UK has waited Patiently for the NCAA to decide within their own timing frame work. They have failed to do so. Coach Cal has said this is a players first program. I believe one can easily argue that it would be negligent on UK’s part not to do more -with the season half over- at this point. What can be done?
1) Send Personal deligation consisting of UK’s President, Athletic Chairman and legal counsel to NCAA headquarters to push the matters. This would show the NCAA how seriously UK views the matter.
2)If immediate eligibility is not granted file suit and seek an injunction -including an emergency temporary injunction- requesting he be allowed to play. The NCAA hates lawsuits. They are expensive and the NCAA has fared very poorly lately. They (the NCAA) would be hard pressed to deny Z’s eligibility based upon their decisions in other similarly situated cases. Schools that have aggressively fought the NCAA have done very well.
So come on UK. Talk is cheap. You say you are for Big Z and want him to play. You have waited patiently with no result. If you mean what you say it’s time for action!

Amazing when you consider people were denied

their 6th year by the NCAA not that long ago. Seems some of those denied athletes might want to sue the NCAA for the capriciousness with which they ruled on these things.

Name from the Past in the Portal

I just saw a blast from the past enter the portal- Romello Height. I remember UK was one of his finalist out of high school. The guy has bounced around a lot- originally committed to Miami then signed with Auburn before transferring to USC and now he’s back in the portal. He has 4 sacks this last year for USC so this one could make sense to bring him back closer to home if UK is looking for another edge

Vaught Views: Deone Walker Should be a Treat to Meet at Saturday’s Fan Fest

Deone Walker Should be a Treat to Meet at Saturday’s Fan Fest

Even if there were not a lot of other Kentucky football players and other UK athletes scheduled to be at the 15 Club Fan Fest Saturday, Ryan Maxwell thinks just getting to see UK star defensive lineman Deone Walker would be worth the $25 admission for adults or $10 for children.

“He is an amazing athlete and has demonstrated that on the field but he is a far better individual and person than he is football player and I want more people to know that,” said Ryan Maxwell, one of the founding fathers Athlete Advantage that oversees The 15 Club. “He is a character-filled young man.

“He could have gone anywhere in the country (via the transfer portal) but chose to stay here because of his relationship with the coaching staff and community. That speaks so much to the character of the young man.

“If you come to Fan Fest you are going to meet someone you are going to see play on Sundays (in the NFL) and find out just what a great young man he is.”...... https://www.yoursportsedge.com/2024...saturdays-fan-fest/vaughts-views/larryvaught/

Shout out to our 2 transfers; incredibly important to our success

Right now, 25-30% of the season done, an argument can be made Reeves is having as good an overall year as any 2 guard in the Cal era.

Near 19 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 51.1% FG, 41.9% from 3, and 85.4% FT. 61.1% EFG

Tre is playing the stretch 4 great. Tremendous on court leader, clearly THE guy teammates listen too.

Stats are 13.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 3.2 apg (near point guard at the 4 spot), 52.8% FG, 36% from 3, and 72% FT.

His stats since moving to the 4 (Last 4 games) are 15 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 50% FG and 38% from 3.

Love these guys!!

Pure Speculation

Total speculation on my part, but I had wondered about the medical episode/move up to the box by Coen earlier in the year. For some reason, I felt like explanation was unnecessarily vague. Not that we have a “right” to know his medical business, but when someone is vague, it does lead to, well speculation by internet idiots like myself. If any of the smoke is true that Coen is looking elsewhere, wonder if there wasn’t a medical episode and there is more to that story.

Is it time to blow it all up and start over CFB?

Change is quicker than ever.
NIL and it's changing and not sitting still. There may be even some enforcement of some rules, whatever they are.
The portal. Who is playing for who? are you sure? 25% turnover in players. Not many businesses can withstand that kind of turnover. (NFL)
Recruiting? High s school or portal? Which is better. Why do both? Why not have the Mac schools do your HS recruiting and development and just pay them when you take one of their players in the portal? How long can they spend the time and money to just give away their product?
The Athletic director? who needs the job these guys are doing now. They are basically middle management with no authority and a lack of responsibility that they have to perform and they fail at performance evaluation. Takes them forever to fire a coach for non performance. better option a general manger.
Sports betting? Some fans are so focused on the spread that they don't actually have a team anymore.

Lot's to discuss, not many solutions presented.

What do you want CFB to look like in 2034. and then how do you get to that model.?

This should be wild.

Stoops and the Bowl Game myth

It seems that everyone brings up how many bowl games Stoops has been to to show his vast superiority over all previous UK coaches. Not including the massive facility, recruiting, staff salaries upgrades the real answer is that almost everyone makes a bowl now. It is almost impossible to not especially playing three crappy MAC teams, UL and Vandy every season.

But the big reason is the number of bowls now.

1970 there were 11 bowls
1980 15 bowls
1990 19 bowls
2000 25 bowls
2010 35 bowls
2023 FORTY THREE bowls.

So in the 70s 22 teams made bowls and now 86 teams make bowls. A 6-6 season guarantees a bowl and one year a 4-6 season got us a bowl.

Liam Coen - Ohio State

Don't want to sound any panic alarms or scare anything, I just have some family that is involved closely with Ohio State Athletics and the Football Program, and they told me they've heard that Ryan Day is a fan of Liam Coen and Coen is on their shortlist for the OC and QB position that Day wants to implement this season. (Day wants to give up play-calling to take some off his plate and they are likely going to let go their current QB coach Corey Dennis in favor of an experienced OC.)

There is a sentiment that their transfer QB Will Howard is similar in style and frame to Will Levis and Coen could have a similar impact with him.

Some other names on the list are: Joe Brady, Jason Candle, Brian Johnson and Joe Moorhead.

KENTUCKY HC JOHN CALIPARI Q&A:

* Calipari says Cats made a little bit of a change to their pick-and-roll defense. Players liked it, wanted to stick with it. They're going to work on that some more moving forward.

* "Told on themselves" a bit tonight. They can defend better and still put up 90 points.

* Tre Mitchell did a good job of subbing himself out after playing too many minutes the last two games.

* Cal is still scratching his head over how they lost the A&M game with the numbers they had. Ha. Says this Mississippi State was a similarly good team. A team that beat Tennessee and had a 15-16 point lead.

* Asked players if they're willing to play desperate. If you can't, you can't be out there for this team. As you saw tonight, it doesn't matter who's on the floor for offense. They can score. Gotta defend and rebound to take the next step.

* Asked about the "Free Big Z" billboard fans bought in Indy, Cal says, "Let me say again, our fans are crazy." Shows how much support the fans bring to this program.

* On Ugo's recent play... He was good today. He gets tired, though, and when he does he let's go of the rope. Has to know when to sub himself out.

* Praised Aaron Bradshaw for diving on the floor 3x today. He was a lot better tonight than last game.

* Wasn't aware that he had a milestone 400th win tonight. Says he knows some people will say BS, but he wasn't aware.

* On Big Z again... Will he redshirt if it goes on too long? No. Not fair to him after everything he did to get into school and what he's done to play this year. "Let's just get him eligible FOR HIM."

MISSISSIPPI STATE HC CHRIS JANS Q&A:

* Wish he could praise his team's effort tonight but still frustrated by the lack of urgency in the first half. Thought they could lean on the veterans for that going into an environment like this. Got on their heels, let UK dictate.

* Asked about UK shooting 75% on 2s today... Probably sound like a broken record talking about them like other coaches, but they have so many guys coming at you who could start, four guys at the guard positions who are interchangeable, all seem to like each other, share the ball, spread you out and shoot it. Can get downhill on you. The lob threat. Put a lot of pressure on you.

Issel. This day in 1969.

On this very day (January 18th, 1969), behind Dan Issel’s game high 21 points, Kentucky defeated the Tennessee Vols (69 to 66) in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Wildcats came home on the same day to Memorial Coliseum to celebrate, and blow out 1,000 candles on a large cake.
Kentucky became the first program in NCAA history to win 1,000 games. - Wildcat Country.
