Cal bragging about his NBA all star records

I think it drives him nuts that we’re all not just as enamored with the NBA stuff as he is.

Why, shouldn’t we all think he’s way better than dudes like Jay Wright and Self just for the NBA stuff alone? Who cares if they win more titles…

He definitely is reading social media or someone is telling him what’s posted. He doesn’t mention the last 4 years. Takes a jab at fans for mentioning it’s been 9 years. The ultimate narcissist underachiever!

What also bugs me about these Cal rants is the way he seems to be implicitly trying to take undue credit.

Sorry, Cal, but those seven guys making this year’s All-Star team is entirely 100 percent THEIR accomplishment, NOT yours. You were lucky enough that they once chose to play for you for a few months, then they went off to the NBA where they later developed into great players without you. That is all that happened.

You had nothing to do with them becoming all stars, so don’t imply otherwise.

This is true.

It's also true that when they were here they were raw freshmen mostly. Raw talent does not always translate to best team or most talented team.

Yet we see all the time on here from the usual posters about all the talent and underachieving. You can't have it both ways.

I want cal gone yesterday and 100% agree we should have 1 more title during his tenure as 2015 had good experience with solid to good frosh. Reading here you would think we had nba all star Booker on the bench and not 20% from 3 freshmen slump Booker. ..for one example.

Calipari is obviously doing something. All college coaches draw from the same well. His methods help players more than theirs. The kinds of things he stresses: initiative and change from within. Those don't show up as stats of any kind. And may only bear fruit after years of effort. Almost like the best kind of college professor.

It's better for Calipari's critics to say simply that they want a traditional program. One that produces immediate gratification. Wins. Tournament success. Etc. It's idiotic to insist Calipari is not doing anything right when he obviously is doing the kinds of things he explicitly has said he wants to do.

Well if that is truly the case, WHY do so many of these guys continue choose to play for him ? Also, SEVERAL of the guys actually credit Cal for coaching them hard, being a role model for them. They have actually stated Cal got them where they are. Maxey being the recent one. I get it that it's popular to hate on Cal (some fairly deserved), but do not alter the facts to fit your agenda. Players talk, if Cal wasn't helping these guys get better, prepare for the NBA, the kids would not keep signing up to play for him. I agree that he is too wrapped up in the NBA success, but he does get credit for SOME of what those guys have accomplished, even THEY say it.

Why in God’s name should any fans have to say that? Do Kansas or UConn fans have to say that? No, because they have COACHES (Self and Hurley), not glorified sports agents. Their COACHES are already focused on and committed to the tasks for which they were hired and for which they are handsomely compensated. The fact that Kentucky fans can’t say the same about their “coach” is a travesty of the highest order. And your argument is bizarre.

He is smart to keep bringing it up because all the recruits speak of how we get players to the NBA so it would be stupid to not bring it up as a selling point...

Wow, tone deaf. The more all-stars you have Cal, the more people question your coaching skills/accomplishments.

He definitely is hearing what fans think somewhere.
Right, he should know the Karens in this fanbase don’t give a damn about these kids or their or their success. They are only entertainment to them. The same people who cry about Loyalty.

The criticism of Calipari is that he's incompetent.

He isn't. He's doing something else. Would you be angry at Nick Saban for running a crap basketball program?

Calipari isn't running the same kind of program as Kansas and UConn and 99.9% of other programs. Fans were fine with that until the results were other than what they wanted. I assume they didn't know what a Players First program entailed. Or maybe they thought that Players First was just a slogan. A sales pitch. Now they know it is neither. Players First puts the players well being and development for playing professionally as the #1 priority. People don't want that. Fine. But it's silly to say that Calipari is incompetent. He's just doing something that (some) people don't want.

One championship with the players he's had is called underachieving, the players he's had that went on to the NBA after one year were so talented, he couldn't mess them up. He has had top 3 recruiting classes every year he's been here, the last 6 years or so, he's still had those good players and is getting beat by less talented teams with rookie coaches. That bragging is why people are always on him about his NBA players when he talks about them. The NBA is irrelevant to the majority of Kentucky fans, we want final fours and championships, not middle of the pack SEC finishes or first round losses in the NCAA's. The name Kentucky has lost some luster in the college basketball world since he has been here, whether he thinks so or not.

It's all about the "kids" and celebrating the "kids". Cal makes a mere $8-$9 million a year because it's all about the "kids". He'd make a boatload more if it was all about Cal and how he's the one that brought about the greatest night in the history of Kentucky basketball.

Cal is who built the Kentucky brand.....

In his mind.
