Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter Passes Away at Age 96

Ranking UK’s Transfer Portal Needs

I don’t know total budget (I assume $2-4 million upper and lower bound), but this would be my ranked list and best estimate at cost. All are totally uneducated guesses to be clear.

1. Transfer QB ($700k - $1 million)
2. Keep Deone Walker ($300-800k)
3. Keep Cox ($400-700k…LT will be pricey due to positions market rate)
4. Keep Wallace ($250-500k)
5. Keep Hairston ($250-600…no clue of CB market rate)
6. Keep Brown and Key ($700k budget for both)
7. Interior OL ($300k but no clue on market rate for C and G positions)
8. TE ($150k get a good one at G5 level like what Ole Miss got from Memphis if possible)
9. Retaining starters ($50-80k each)

I feel better than most on signed talent at the other positions. Pony up ;)

Interesting moment in the game

Was fortunate enough to be at the game last night, pretty good seats. Near the end of regulation, Shep subbed in for Edwards. As it was happening, all of the assistant coaches were up and talking loudly to Cal. It appeared to me that Shep wasn't supposed to go in for Edwards but instead someone else. It was during their post player shooting free throws and I presume that the intent was to keep Edwards in to rebound any miss. Cal turned to look at the assistants, seemed to realize it was a mistake and shrugged his shoulders as "it is what it is". As it turned out, Shep got the rebound. Cal seemed to mention it in his post-game comments, talking about Shep getting that rebound. Thought it was interesting.

I haven't gone back to look at the recording to see if that was shown on TV or not.

2 tickets to UK-MSU in Starkville $150 total

The game is 2/27. If this is not the right place to post, please direct me to the correct place.

I am an Ole Miss fan and I bought 2 of their mini plans to attend the OM game down there. They let you pick 2 priority games and UK was the other I chose. Seats are in section 202, row 11. That section is currently $105 after fees, and the get in price to anywhere in the gym is $98.

I'll provide proof of purchase as well.

Also, I got 2 tickets to their Murray State game 12/23, so if any of you folks from Kentucky know any Murray State fans that are interested, I will throw those tickets in for free.

Funny sayings your parents said

I'm 86 years old and say things that drive my kids and grandkids crazy, but most of it I learned from my dear mom and dad.
Mom
1. Someone that complains about everything: They'd be mad if they were hung with a gold rope.
2. Someone that is always in other's business: They're afraid someone will fart and they won't get to smell it.
3. When you didn't to as told: I've told you 30 eleven times to do that.

Now my Dad
1. Want in one hand and shit in the other and tell me which one gets full first.
2. On a beautiful day: If the weather was like this year round, we couldn't afford to live here.
3. Someone says "are you shitting me": I wouldn't shit you, you're my favorite turd.

Finally, they both called what we would now probably refer to as a punk little kid as "shit asses".

Anyone else have any?

For you moral victory folks..

I see a lot of “lost to the #1 team in November” stuff being posted. So what will you say when we inevitably find out Kansas is not some great team after dropping a few bad ones? Nearly every season people watch this champions classic and think the games are amazing, only to find out later these are fairly average teams.

Data on the "cupcake" games through the years.....

I was curious about the comments people have made about how UK playing only cupcakes. I wanted to see if a shift occurred and when did it happen.

-I didn't include bowl games.
-Note that you need to dig deeper as to the context of the opponent. For example, Cincinnati was played in the 1990's but is not the Cincy we've seen the last 20 yrs. In the early 1990's they were an independent and the late 1990's were a CUSA team. There are likely many teams who need context for the time period.

-It appears that the biggest shift happened pre-1983. We were playing what seems like a tougher schedule prior. The next shift really occurs in 2006 when we dropped Indiana as a regular opponent.

Football ***** UK Football Practice Notebook - Nov. 21 *****

Hello HOB. Back over at a rainy JCFTC today for the one and only UK Football practice report we will have this week due to the holiday. We’ll have both OC Liam Coen and DC Brad White joining us today, plus a couple of select players, to discuss Saturday’s matchup with Louisville in the Governor’s Cup game. They’re slated to wrap up around 5:30 ET. Stay tuned…

LIAM COEN Q&A:

* Louisville defense is very disciplined, well coached. A shift in what they weredoing at Purdue and early on at Louisville. They play together, run to the ball, sTrain.

* We’ve been inconsistent against this style of defense that challenges you on the perimeter with press man coverage and brings a lot of heat up front. They give you some opportunities, though, if you handle it.

* On emotions and penalties... Have to handle that. Both teams will be chippy but a mutual respect, maybe, as well Because of how well their team has done in the rankings. “We have to go in there with our hair on fire.”

* On things to address with portal season coming up… Need more leadership and some guys to hold each other accountable. Need to get bigger at some spots, more physical up front. That’s got to be who we are.

* On the deep ball… Sometimes trying to force it too fat down the field, and when you get in the game, that long ball is different from getting WR 10 yards behind the scout team defense in practice.

* We’ve practiced well That’s probably hard for you guys to hear at this point. But theyve not shied away from it.

* Thinks Izayah Cummings has kept working hard and was ready for his opportunity. He’ll be a bigger part of the plan in this game and the bowl game.

BRAD WHITE Q&A:

* On emotions this week… Can’t take that part of it out, but you have to keep them in check. Hope the guys are fired up to play. The way practice has started this week, I think that’s the case.

* UofL offense really efficient, balanced. QB looks more at ease as the season has gone along. They have their own unique system but it’s somewhat similar to what UK has seen vs Mizzou and Florida.

* There was a long stretch in SC game where they can take the film and show the players “This is what it looks like when you execute and strain,” but you also have the first two drives and the next to last one to show how it can fall apart if one guy isn’t in the right spot or has bad eyes.

* On pass rush… Stems from not winning 1 on 1s. It’s a one-game season right now, and we have to be better in this one game. We’ll address the rest of it after the Season (suggesting they have to fix some things in recruiting or scheme). Tend to think he means more along the lines of recruiting.

Football INSIDER NOTES

** Made the FutureCast pick for OL Marc Nave to UK on 11/9. Yesterday talk started to pick up that it was materializing, hence the note that Nave would be a take yesterday. Still looking good for Kentucky. That means Kentucky will have three interior guys (Nave, Lafontant, Johnson) and one flex guy (Aba Selm) who can play guard or tackle.

** Patterson was a big addition, someone Kentucky really does seem to like a lot. I have no clue what to expect from Mizell. He is posting a lot of videos of him working out on social media. Coming back from an injury like that isn't easy and I don't think it's his first.

** Where does that leave the line? From what I'm hearing, the need may actually be for a portal tackle. The key is to bring Marques Cox and Eli Cox back. I think they will be able to do that but nothing has been decided for sure, according to my understanding. The tackle situation next year, ideally, would be Cox starting in one spot and then the other spot manned by Courtland Ford, Malachi Wood, or even Dylan Ray. While Ray has played guard all season long out of necessity remember that he was brought in as a G/T who can play either spot. Mark Stoops has said that's one thing he likes about him a lot. They apparently like the job Neal Brown did with him there at WVU. All of this is to say I think they will target a portal OT.

** Have mentioned Wood repeatedly as a guy that is very interesting for the future, and another I've heard about lately is Austin "House" Ramsey from Philadelphia. Apparently the 6'4, 335-pound OL is another big young guy in the program there is some excitement over. Sounding like he's expected to be a player for them one day, perhaps as soon as next year. Overall, for the first time in a while I feel like the offensive line is starting to patch together some nice pieces with multiple years of eligibility. There can't be shortcuts with the development piece.

** Jeremy Flax has had a very good season and hearing talk he could be drafted. Overall, sense seems to be the offensive line has taken a really solid step forward this year. If you just look at the big picture year over year improvement from 2022 they have definitely made a step forward. Yenser and Coen probably both deserve some credit for that.

** Texas A&M WR Raymond Cottrell is hearing from Kentucky, we confirmed that yesterday, and the big factor for him is going to be opportunity. Of course I'm sure NIL is going to be a big factor with a lot of portal guys, too, but Kentucky probably does have the opportunity to offer him for next season. Have not heard that this has progressed very far along but it's something to watch. Big thing is I'm expecting them to take a receiver from the portal whether it's Cottrell or not.

** Trevin Wallace will have a decision to make after the season. Very important decision for Kentucky. If he laves he's probably a 3rd round pick. But we will have to wait for feedback from the NFL when UK submits all that for underclassmen next month. If the grade comes back and some teams are looking at him for the second round or even the first round - that's a little harder for met to understand because he has not played his best football lately - but it would obviously make things a lot trickier. My opinion is Kentucky really needs to bring back both Wallace and Rayner because there's significant turnover coming at the LB positions and you could have a number of young guys playing.

** Expecting Kentucky to take at least one cornerback from the transfer portal. Whether that is because they expect Andru Phillips to move on or just need a guy to throw into the mix because of some of the coverage issues, I don't know. But I do think they will take a cornerback from the portal.
