MLB Draft Round 16 Last Round

Nothing like some good quality time. Yeah, had to go get some new slides and her some new flip flops after said appointment. Our dog ran over my slide on one of our walks yesterday. Then, I’ll be damned if she didn’t step on the same exact slide later on and broke the damn thing. :chairshot:

She picked me out two sweet ass Kentucky shirts while we were there, too. Of course, I’m ecstatic about that. The woman makes sure I’m decked out in Kentucky Blue like 24/7 seems like. Hell, we have seven Kentucky masks now even. I told her it’s gonna just be more Kentucky shirts for her to wash. [laughing]
Haha, one for everyday of the week. Keep that up and you’ll have an entire load of laundry just for masks [laughing]. One cannot ever have too many UK items, though. I have at least 10 UK shirts/hoodies/ball shorts I wear, not counting 3-4 that probably don’t fit my fat ass anymore deep in the closet lol

I certainly can't argue against any picks so far and I would have liked to have been higher but am thrilled to death to be able to make these back to back picks. I'm sure some will accuse me of homerism and pandering to the masses and while that certainly plays a part, I stand by these two picks. By the way, I have to make them in this specific order or my mother, God rest her soul would kill me. It is my pleasure to pick two of the main cogs of the greatest team any of us under the age of 93 have ever seen.

With the final pick of the first round, I will take the winningest player in baseball history, more wins, more hits, NO ONE ever played harder or made more of his abilities. 17 time all-star at 5 different positions, switch hitter extraordinaire that gives me tremendous flexibility and toughness. 4256 hits, 3 time World Series champion, 3 time batting champion and former MVP. Peter Edward Rose Sr., AKA Charlie Hustle.

With the first pick of the second round, the greatest catcher in the history of the game. There is no contest. If you think there is another, you didn't see him play, and you are wrong. Tremendous glove. Tremendous bat. Tremendous arm. Had the respect of all players he played with and could command a pitching staff like no other. 2 time world champ, 2 time MVP, 10 time Gold Glove winner. The pride of Binger, Oklahoma. Johnny Lee Bench.

Well, we share the masks. Yeah, she stays buying ole Dad UK gear. She got a sweet ass deal on that 2010 style Nike UK/John Wall jersey a couple years ago. This woman she used to work with is all the time selling clothing items. The wife ended up getting me that jersey for $3! I about shit! [laughing]

Well son of a bitch. LOL I have a few more minutes. She’s in the shower right now. Hold on, let me see if I can make a quick pick.

Good pick, by the way. She was just saying earlier she wanted Bench. Was hoping he would fall to me. Oh well.

Hell yea lol can’t beat that. I’ve also got like 4 UK hats. Nothing like wearing UK gear out of state, as I live like 50 miles from the Tennessee border.

Exactly. Gonna have to go after some pitching next round. The most important element in the game IMO. Johnson did cross my mind, but DiMaggio was a sexier pick to me. LOL
I knew DiMaggio wouldn’t make it back to me, but I was hoping somehow the big unit would fall under the radar lol. Realistically knew it wasn’t going to happen, though.

What the hell?! I thought I saw the draft order the other day and I was like 3rd?! Could’ve sworn I read where @BigBlueFanGA was bitching about it. :) Anyway, I see how it is. That’s it, @UKNorse is cutoff! [laughing]

On a serious note, give me Stan Musial. I’m satisfied with that pick. The wife inquired about why I was typing so much and wondered what the deal was with all the emojis. She said she’ll agree with that pick. It seems right, so I’ll go with it.
Stan was my hero growing up. You got him at a bargain at #15. Bill James (the father of sabermetrics) in his 2000 Baseball Abstract which was updated a couple of years later has him in 10th in the history of baseball (this includes the Negro Leagues) and 8th among MLB players. He was voted in polls by players who were playing at the time as the best player of both the 1940's and the 1950's. Ty Cobb once called Musial the closest thing to a perfect baseball player he had ever seen.

Since you chose my hero, I'll give you a little more ammo. If you look at Baseball Reference, you will find one of their metrics is HOF Monitor. Stan ranks #1 in that metric. Also Bill James has Stan rated in the top 3 defensive outfielders in the NL in his first 2 years. He played all 3 OF positions and to help the team was willing to learn a new position 1B when the Cards got rid of Johnny Mize. Most remember him after he was older, but his original nickname was the Donora Greyhound. Bill James called Griffey the second best lefthanded outfielder born in Donora Pa.

Way to pair 'em. Bench is the one player you can pick and absolutely be guaranteed, no argument, doubt or question, to have the best player at a position.

High praise coming from Cobb, that’s for sure.

I gambled. Wanted Bench. But was surprised when Gibson was available. Took Gibson because he was such an impactful player in his prime. Felt an inkling of hope that catchers were gonna keep getting bypassed and I might have a shot a bench next rd. Darn. Also wanted The Unit. Him and Gibson. Talk about feirsome one day to the next. Also didn't happen.

Technically, he was the first pick of the second round. Like I said, my mom would kill me if she were alive today and I had taken Johnny before Pete. She absolutely loved Rose and hated Bench.

You are up!

For the record, Stan Musial and Johnny Bench were the next two guys I was hoping for.

But I'll take a guy that hit for some of the greatest averages of all time with huge power.

According to wiki:

Rogers Hornsby was so respected as a hitter that once, when a rookie pitcher complained to umpire Bill Klem that he thought he had thrown Rogers a strike, Klem replied, "Son, when you pitch a strike, Mr. Hornsby will let you know."
