MLB Draft Round 16 Last Round

Interesting strategies so far. Im used to FanDuel and DraftKings, and then Yahoo season long. I admittedly have no idea yet what Im gonna do when Im OTC.

While I know baseball, older baseball at least, way better than the NBA. I'm finding this terribly complex. So many great players but you have to have balance and chemistry too....lots of variables.

I saw the NBA thing so I get whay we're doing now. Seems to me pandering to the average Joe voter will be as important as anything.

To a degree but my Anthony Davis team lost in the first round so pandering doesn't always work. It does help if you have a hot wife, thank goodness @brianpoe isn't in this thing.

Question: how are you guys planning on voting on winners when considering whether guys juiced or not? I don’t want to pick some of the best players ever and then people say “yeah but he only did that cuz if the PED’s” and lose because of it. I lost as much respect for those guys as anybody but for the intent of this fun little game here, I plan to just vote for guys as they played, regardless of juicing.

Welcome to the 1st MLB Draft. This will be an ALL-Time draft so you are welcome to draft any player throughout history. You will have 6 hours to make a pick or you will be skipped.

The criteria : "Who wins a 7 game World Series"

Roster - 8 Starters, 3 utility (bench) Pitchers 4 starters and 1 closer

Please keep track of your roster. I will not remind you that you drafted 6 shortstops :)

Draft Order

@jrpross - Babe Ruth

@drcats2013 - Barry Bonds

@hotelblue - Sandy Koufax

@quest4#9

@GoBigBlue712

@jcrow10

@BigBlueFanGA

@CB3UK

@JHannibalSmith

@LukaszObrzut

@csrupp

@KopiKat

@podgejeff_

@UKNorse

@Cowtown Cat

@BigBlueEric

Two questions:

Is this a snake draft? And can we draft 3 OFs or does it have to be LF, CF, and RF?

I'm of the opinion baseball oughtta just let the juicing resume in the open, as opposed to what we got last year which was the "juiced ball." It was clearly just a tactic implemented to try to replicate the big offense we got during the 'roid era without embracing the 'roids. Instead all we got was HRs or strike outs. It was Adam Dunn across the board [laughing]

So, I think it goes without saying juicing won't change my vote.

there will be no big tax on juicing imo. just a little when comparisons like to babe ruth come up. i shouldn’t have added “juiced” maybe because i watched a lot of those years of insane obp and i majorly respected him as a hitter. it was just a crazy amount of walks too. there did exist a knock on him about the postseason but that series did help bury that.

Yes, Bonds was notorious for going ice cold in October with Pittsburgh. He was GREAT in the regular season & they wouldn’t have made the playoffs without him but he was practically a no show in the post season. He’s one guy that I’ll never understand his decision to juice. I mean it was obviously an ego issue. But, he was already a HOFer, all-time great LFer & arguably the best player in baseball without steroids.

That’s the way I see it and will be voting. I’m taking the players for what they are, regardless of allegations. They accomplished what they did and no championships were taken away, or even accolades for that matter

Yeah, it'll just be a personal preference thing. Juicing really bothers me. I can't control the "dead ball" or "live ball" seasons.

It bothers me too. I have no problem with them not getting in the Hall. However, I do not see how someone can vote against a fantasy team using their skills, juiced or not. You’re drafting them simply on performance with no stipulations in the agenda for the draft to penalize someone for their PED usage. You want the best team possible and some of the best players ever juiced. Hundreds of them and some maybe unknown.

Nothing taken away but there’s a reason they aren’t in the HOF. I know I sound like an old man on this one but I can’t look the other way on guys who hit 73 HR at age 37 when he’d never come anywhere close to that in 16 previous seasons. Or other guys who never did shit before OR after steroids but put up HOF numbers while they were juicing. What sucks is we still don’t really know for sure everybody who did it & we basically have to use our own judgment so it probably isn’t fair to penalize. But, the stats are still bogus in real life.

Agreed wholeheartedly. It’s hard to say who else used what and Just never got caught.

I mean, take Ty Cobb for example. He never used steroids but I’m fairly certain he fed off the souls of his opponents somehow.

My thing is we’re getting them for what they are. We’re not judging them, as in a hall of fame vote, to determine eligibility for it. We’re taking their skills and building a team. That alone does not warrant penalty for a draft, and if it does, I’d love to hear an explanation as to how.

I’m not gonna penalize bc there’s no way to know exactly who’s guilty. But, it’s performance enhancing. The 73 HR aren’t genuine or indicative of the player he truly was. He wouldn’t have had those numbers without steroids. If I’m wrong then why didn’t he do it in one of his previous 15 full seasons while still in his prime? He never even came close.

At 37 he hit 24 more HR than in any previous season. That’s far from normal. He never hit HR like that his entire career & it’s blatantly obvious that he benefited greatly from steroids. The guys who gambled or whatever didn’t improve on the field bc of it.

Like I said Bonds was already a HOFer & didn’t need to juice. But, those 73 HR & his last few seasons are not legit IMO. He was still GREAT but he’s not a 50+ HR guy without help. Sadly, I can’t take that entire era seriously bc the numbers are so inflated & so many players cheated. Brady Anderson hit 50, lol.

It’s insulting to the players who came before them & what they honestly accomplished. I fully admit I probably take it way too seriously but I love baseball & it’s history is my favorite part & I hate seeing it disrespected & tarnished. Bonds is still an all-timer & I’ll treat him as such. But, it’ll be the 30 HR, 100 RBI & .400 OBP Pittsburgh Bonds & not the monster he became in SF.

It is what it is for me. Are we going to discount modern players the last couple years playing with a juiced up baseball?

I'll be voting by what they did on the field. But again these are the type of question you have to be prepared for and answer. No voter is going to vote the same. If you want to avoid those... I guess draft squeaky clean players :)

No, it's more about his sex with underage girls.
The statements from Dowd? Never substantiated except the 1 girl who Rose admitted to and thought she was 16 which was legal for consent. There are stories out there like for some other great baseball players but I'll just let it go. Rose was pretty awful with his affairs but one of the best to ever play the game and he was a good teammate. It's easy to understand your dislike of him though.

As a Reds fan I have never learned to embrace him as a player, especially since I never saw him play in person.

Many credible journalists say he only admitted to betting on baseball in order to save himself from being exposed as a pedophile.

Well, Dowd made the report and later made the girl claim. Rose sued him so if there was evidence, he could have buried Rose with it, not to mention, why would Rose put himself in that position if he knew Dowd was right? Makes no sense.

i think they’re still doing it.

Bump for @quest4#9

And, btw @drcats2013 I’m sorry if it felt like I was singling out & slamming your pick. I didn’t mean it that way. I was just explaining my opinion & he happened to be the one who was drafted when the topic came up so I used him to make a point. Good thing about Bonds is he was so good before steroids that even if ppl discount his SF years he’s still one of the best LFers ever.

Yeah, I mean three guy won 3 MVP’s in 4 years and became the 2nd member of the 40/40 club BEFORE he started juicing. He’s still an all-time great.

uh-huh . . . and Astro's fans would like to have it known that they had a better record on the road in 2017 . . . away from where they are accused of having a dedicated center field camera, and also the world series wins in Dodger stadium, playoff wins away from Houston, etc.

My first time participating in this kind of draft. Is there any break overnight or not? I don’t really care as I have back to back picks, thus 12 hours. Just curious.

Usually from 12-8 though guys are welcome to continue if they feel like it and they are OTC.
