OT: SI accused of using AI Fake Authors

There was nothing in Drew Ortiz's author biography at Sports Illustrated to suggest that he was anything other than human.

"Drew has spent much of his life outdoors, and is excited to guide you through his never-ending list of the best products to keep you from falling to the perils of nature," it read. "Nowadays, there is rarely a weekend that goes by where Drew isn't out camping, hiking, or just back on his parents' farm."

The only problem? Outside of Sports Illustrated, Drew Ortiz doesn't seem to exist. He has no social media presence and no publishing history. And even more strangely, his profile photo on Sports Illustrated is for sale on a website that sells AI-generated headshots, where he's described as "neutral white young-adult male with short brown hair and blue eyes."

Ortiz isn't the only AI-generated author published by Sports Illustrated, according to a person involved with the creation of the content who asked to be kept anonymous to protect them from professional repercussions.

"There's a lot," they told us of the fake authors. "I was like, what are they? This is ridiculous. This person does not exist."

"At the bottom [of the page] there would be a photo of a person and some fake description of them like, 'oh, John lives in Houston, Texas. He loves yard games and hanging out with his dog, Sam.' Stuff like that," they continued. "It's just crazy."

The AI authors' writing often sounds like it was written by an alien; one Ortiz article, for instance, warns that volleyball "can be a little tricky to get into, especially without an actual ball to practice with."

According to a second person involved in the creation of the Sports Illustrated content who also asked to be kept anonymous, that's because it's not just the authors' headshots that are AI-generated. At least some of the articles themselves, they said, were churned out using AI as well.

"The content is absolutely AI-generated," the second source said, "no matter how much they say that it's not."

After we reached out with questions to the magazine's publisher, The Arena Group, all the AI-generated authors disappeared from Sports Illustrated's site without explanation.

A winner Vs a loser. ( Coaching)

One thing stuck out to me on U6s last drive. I love CMS but with a little under a minute he went to the dreaded rush 3 drop everyone back. I was like…. NO!!!!!!! U of Smell took the bait though. We left 12 yds wide open and they took it. The QB was under zero pressure to throw but the QB dumped it to a WIDE OPEN receiver for 12. They lost.
Auburn had Alabama on the ropes in the exact same situation. Here’s the difference. Auburn went to rush 3. Milroe didn’t dump because all 4 receivers ran 20 yd routes. On that final play they could have tried just to pick up that first down. Still 30 seconds left. Saban sent all 4 wideouts to the endzone. He knew rushing 3. Milroe would have all day to sit back and wait. He did. TD. He could have waited another 5 seconds. 3 vs 5. Alabama lineman. None of Auburns 3 got anywhere close to the QB. Two didn’t get past the LOS. Lol. I’m glad U6 took the bait but I absolutely hate the rush 3 and try to cover. It almost never works yet it is a PRIMARY PLAY in our scheme. Good coaches will have their QB be patient and win in that defense.

Texas aTm Made a brilliant Hire in Elko!!!

I’ve spent more than 15 minutes researching Elmo’s lengthy, two year head coaching career, and think that Rock, The Good Ag, May have made the coaching hire to satisfy their rebellious fans!!

Recruiting? Put a big check mark down for them! Sure, Elmo’s first Class ranked 52nd nationally at Duke, but his second jumped to 49th, bringing that average way up.

And given the brilliant timing of this hire, aTm might be able to cherry-pick the very best of Duke’s verbal commitments for 2024’s Class. There are some real solid Three Star talents to be lured from that football powerhouse of the ACC.

And improvement over time?

Heck yeah! He parleyed his first season with 9 wins into a 7 win campaign immediately thereafter!

The Aggies can celebrate the distinct possibility of doing some things even Elko has yet to achieve: a double-digit winning season, a Bowl on New Year’s Day, and a bowl opponent from a P5 conference!

And the Aggie fans avoided the embarrassment of hiring a Coach like Stoops from a “basketball school,” instead opting for a Coach from a traditional “football school,” in Duke!!

How do you trust a coach that tried to leave?

It's not like Stoops is going to come out and own it. He tried to bail, it fell apart on him, and he's back...for now.

He's going to just brazen it out without making a public statement. And even if he did, what could he say?

"Sorry about that guys, I know I tried to sneak out of here but I'm totes back for realz now, honest to God, trust me."

He's just going to be silent and not even acknowledge what happened, as though he never even tried to leave, which is just as bad.

I truly thought we would no have to worry about Brohm until year 2..

I live in Louisville and this game always means something to me. Partially because of the fact that Louisville has always thought they were so much better as a program than is actual truth. For so many years they played in very mediocre conferences where they had to get up for maybe three or four games a year. That is taking nothing away from them, they started in a baseball stadium, and their Board of directors actually voted to remove the whole football program back in the late 70`s. I have friends who have played for them , and of course friends who are fans. I said from the first time I saw their schedule " they can win 9 games! Hell Satterfield could win 9 with this schedule"- This I do believe is partly true But I have watched them and they are extremely well coached, their players play as a unit and believe they are going to win. Unlike us the past two years where we are too busy thumping our own chest. Georgia would beat them 45-14, and Bama would beat them about the same, BUT they may have won every other game on our schedule. Who knows? al lI know is they look like a football team that is prepared for whomever they play, and we have not looked good for even the cupcakes on our schedule. The florida win was it, and they have turned out to be very, very average. We just are not a very good football team, and this hurts me to the chore. I am a life long optimistic Cat fan, but this team has gotten the best of me.. PLEASE just show up Saturday Boys! We have more talent that Louisville, but they are far more adequately coached than us.

Fun Fact: Broncos win over Cleveland....first time ever

If this comes up at your next trivia contest.....

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Broncos secured a fifth straight victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, finishing the game with a score of 29-12. A first in NFL history.

The concept of building a final score that has never happened before in NFL history is known as “Scorigami.”

Should we go ahead and label this season as a failure?

We aren’t beating Alabama so let’s just take that off the table. Let’s also agree that if we lose any of the winnable games left on our schedule, it’s been another bad season. If we beat UF, UL, Miss St, SC and Vandy, how would you feel about the year? Obviously it wouldn’t be a special season but would you label it Tolerable? Decent? Good? Disappointing? Horrible? Have you checked out after last night? Still invested?

Will Howard from K-State in Portal - Should be #1 Target

Don’t really post on here too much but Will Howard from K-State just entered the portal and he should 1000% be Coen and Stoop’s target to replace Leary.

Has size similar to Levis (6’5 / 240) and very similar playing-style too (cannon + mobile) — threw for 330 YDs and 4 TDs against Texas this year in a near upset win. The dude is a gamer.
