Can't help it, I'm excited

I know we still need to see some changes happen but I feel like this episode allowed some air to be cleared & reality spoken to some people. Feels like a new commitment has been made to the program by coaches, boosters, & administration.
We are gonna weed out some bad attitudes & gonna kill the portal!

( I could also be a complete fool if Stoops takes the Iowa job next week but I think he found out not everyone is just gonna leave & follow him)

Rupp Arena Tuesday Night...

Needs to be ROCKINGG!!

Hope people understand how important this game is- this needs to be an absolutely electric atmosphere tomorrow night- Miami needs to be on their heels the ENTIRE game and not able to hear one another.

If anyone here is going to the game- BE LOUD! STAND UP! GET THAT PLACE ROCKINGGG!!

Get that place JUMPING!!

Giving Coach Cal Credit, because it's due (at least from me)

Basically I was simply going to make a post about one thing.

Tre Mitchell.

AND how incredible a player and asset it is to have him on this particular team roster....

and then it finally dawned on me. This really should be about Coach Cal

Why? Because with this recruiting class (in particular) he had a vision of this team and a guy like Tre Mitchell comes in for the idea he has, and suddenly changes the complete and total look of the face of Kentucky basketball. And all you have to do is watch this Kentucky basketball team this year, how they play, and it all makes sense. What an incredible vision Cal has had in what this team could be.

And we're not even talking who we DON'T have on the court. Let's not get started about THAT.

And that's where the thought began. Thank God for Tre Mitchell on this year's team. He's a perfect fit, a natural leader and fine example of a senior that's paid his dues, comes in, and makes a big splash. He's the best transfer in the country. And what an awesome move and decision even COMING to Kentucky to begin with was, for Tre, really. I've loved watching him out there on the court and the spacing when he is out there, it's a thing of beaty, for the most part. In other words, a totally modern, "fast PASTE" (like we like it) offensive flow while taking advantage of the three point line.

Pretty simple, really.

But I digress.

I have to apologize to Coach Cal heading into this year and me being pretty vocal in my disapproval of his overall job. So, he did what he is paid to do. But the end product is worth actually being invested in to go through a season in giving 100% support and not feeling empty by the end. My tank was long since dry to even say I was excited to watch a Kentucky basketball game.

So thanks, Coach Cal. And I'm sorry I had been riding your ass so hard, yelling "GO!" - all while watching kentucky basketball games on TV. Thanks for making it "fun" to watch the boys again.

Peace and harmony to one and all.

Go Big Blue !

Tyler van Dyke in the Portal

Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke just went into the portal and I have a feeling this is UKs next QB. There are some New England connections with Coen and Van Dyke has been rumored to be connected to UK in the past if he ever left Miami.

He’s had a very up and down career at the U. At times he’s looked absolutely terrible but at other times looks like a first rounder. He’s got the size & arm strength that Coen wants for his system. Doesn’t looked like he ran much in his time at the U though.

He’s throw for 7500 yards, 54 TDs and 23 INTs in 3 seasons at Miami.

FB Recruiting Notes on 3 recruiting targets

App St cornerback commitment Tyshawn Sanders visited Kentucky unofficially a few weeks ago and he is talking about taking an official visit back to the school in December. I cannot say for certain that he has slid into the take column but I do believe he is closer to being there than he was a few weeks ago. Seems like the interest has grown a little bit. But it's cutting it close numbers wise. Seems to be some desire to add more help in the secondary.

Former Ohio State OL commit Marc Nave has visited Kentucky twice this season, once unofficially and once for an official. Haven't been able to connect with him but I know he is definitely an option for Kentucky as an iOL piece to this class. I can confirm with you now that Marc Nave would be a take for Kentucky if he is prepared to commit. He has played things very close to the vest and don't think he has gone on the record much at all. But I can tell you that Kentucky is definitely interested.

Was also reported elsewhere that Kentucky is targeting Texas A&M WR Raymond Cottrell, who has gone into the transfer portal. I can confirm this but it seems like it is pretty early on, no indication of where he might end up.

Comment on KSR today…

Curious to hear early thoughts from @JRowland on this regarding Stoops/A&M:

MJ very quickly today on the show said something along the lines of “I believe Saturday will be a blessing based on stuff that people have been wanting to say within the program recently.”

Obviously that’s not verbatim, but that comment caught my ear. Is that in reference to impending changes in philosophy/NIL? Just curious..

Who pulled the plug?

We're hearing two sides of the story now in the media one says Stoops had a change of heart and the other that A&M's BOR nixed the deal at literally the 11th hour. Who to believe?

I'm still listening at this point, but one thing is for certain, there has been damaged done to the Stoops tenure at Kentucky now. This will not be quickly be smoothed over and back to business as usual. There needs to be some serious damage control by Stoops or otherwise he is going to be perceived as a lame duck losing recruits, staff, fans, boaster support etc.

While some are celebrating the fact that he's staying, I fear this may turn out to be the worst of all outcomes.

Hope the CBS "Experts" Are Wrong About Tomorrow Night

The best matchup on the Day 1 of the slate features Miami playing its biggest road game of the season against a youthful Kentucky roster. The Wildcats showed promise against Kansas earlier this month, but were nearly on the wrong side of an upset loss against Saint Joseph's last week. It may just come down to what Kentucky team shows up against an experienced Miami roster that features five double-digit reliable scorers in Wooga Poplar, Matthew Cleveland, Nijel Pack, Norchad Omier and Bentley Joseph. Pick: Miami +6.5

Transfer portal question

Sorry, I know this is a stupid question but is it common for coaches to pull scholarships from players that are low on the depth charts to force them into the transfer portal or is it pretty much a player decision? And when I say pulling a scholarship, I don’t mean the coach meets with a player to let them know they’re likely not to play and might be better off elsewhere, but they actually tell the player their scholarship won’t be renewed the following year.

Basketball Coach Cal Show News & Notes - Nov. 27

Double-duty tonight for Tom Leach and the coaches' shows. I'll follow along with Cal as well and share the major talking points here. He tends to be a filibuster king, so not sure we'll get as much out of this as we did the Stoops show. ;)

* Calipari says Aaron Bradshaw practiced fully with the team for the first time today. He's not ready to play tomorrow, but progress. Big Z, however, is sick again. Thinks he's getting bugs here in the US that his body is not used to attacking. Ugo is bouncing around and looks really good.

* Cal asks if any transfer has had a bigger impact on his team in the country than Tre Mitchell. Says his assist-to-turnover ratio is unreal. There are point guards who don't have one like his. Makes everyone around him better. Would like to coax just a little more aggressiveness out of him, but he's doing great stuff.

* Really hard game coming up. A lot of respect for Larranaga and his staff. They helped UK learn a lot of stuff about playing the way they are now, some good drills for this style. Terrific coach. One of the real gentlemen of college basketball. A great guy. Canes lead nation in 3PFG% (46%) ... Cats aren't far behind at 43% Should be fun. They'll attack the ball, trying to get you to turn it over. (That should be interesting with UK's ability to avoid turnovers so far.) "It's a great challenge for our young guys because their guards are older and REALLY good. Gotta play without fouling." You have to challenge 3s hard without fouling on them. Also have to block out better. "We've done a crap job of that."

* Two things they have to really focus on now: gotta get better defensively, and gotta learn how to close games out. Practices have been heavy on drills in these two areas.

* Caller tells Cal he's glad he's got his "swag back" and hopes he doesn't have the bigs pull another "Shaedon Sharpe." Cal says don't fret, Aaron is dying to get in there. Notes that, even when these bigs come back, you can keep Tre Mitchell at the 5 where he's excelling and use Bradshaw or Ivisic at the 4 offensively. They are basketball players, not traditional, lumbering centers. Where it will change things is the other end of the court, having a rim protector.

* Caller says she supports ALL Kentucky teams and talks about football tickets... I keep waiting to see where this is headed. LOL ... Talks about Tennessee. I'm not sure what is happening. Ha. Tom moves along.

* Cal tells a story about the team serving Thanksgiving dinners at the Salvation Army. This lady came last year and said she was down to her last dollar. Cason Wallace heard her story and gave her some money out of his own pocket. She came back and helped serve other people there this year because of the example and compassion he had for her. Says there are good kids in this program. Never forget how much they give back. They understand the position they hold means more than just them. It's bigger than all of us.

* This Miami game could be hard for this young team because they're just not a real physical bunch. Have to overcome that against older, more physical guys.

* Calipari teases that they may have “one or two” more commits on the horizon.
