Liam Coen: Now that the dust has settled and the emotions have died down, why do you think he wanted out so badly ?

The man was willing to interview for dog catcher of Fayette County if the job had come open. He said he wanted to put down roots. What changed ?
He told players and recruits he was going to be here. What changed ?
It makes you wonder what happened behind the scenes that we will never know about.
I do like what I have seen and know about our new OC and have no reason to think he won't do a good job.

Cal needs a top skilled center and forward

Cal is Cal and to be successful he has to do what has worked for him. When was our teams the best? Cousins, Davis, and KAT. We did great on offense this season until the NCAA because we ran a more modern offense of guard 3 point shots as the weapon of choice. So, what did Cal do instead? He reverted to get the ball to the post inserting Mitchell as the starter and dribble drive for paint touches and shots. Disaster. Many blame Reed for his bad game but you can't convince me he wasn't instructed to get the ball passed to the interior which ended his normal game. This would have been fine if we had any of the 3 centers above, but we didn't. Plus, of course defensively our team was bad.

If Z stays perhaps with a lot of work he can fill the role. The two incoming Freshman...no way. One is already defined as a project and the other will be awfully young. But, Cal no matter what should do what fits for him (even though I think he is a lousy coach). But, you don't have a team play one way all season and then change it to your comfort zone. Then play your comfort zone all season and build upon that. Unless I see a portal transfer top notch center on both ends of the court, I just don't see any success next season. Cal as almost every agrees is stubborn and so get the personnel that fits with your style then.

“The 5 Portal Players to Save Cal’s Job”

Few portal players I would like to sign :

Zeke Mayo - PG 6'4 185 lbs. - SD State. Kid averaged 18.8 points / 5.8 reb. / 3.5 assist and a 39% 3FG shooter. Bigger PG and really quick.

Tucker DeVries - SG 6'7 210 lbs. - Drake. Averaged 21.6 points / 6.7 reb. / 3.7 assist and a 36% 3FG shooter (Long shot, probably follows his dad, but I can dream.)

Cliff Omoruyi - Center - 6'11 240 lbs. - Rutgers. 10.8 points / 8.3 reb. / 3 blocks per game (SR. year) 13.2 points / 9.6 reb. / 2.5 blocks (JR. year) All defensive team in the BIG conference for 23 and 24. has played in a elite conference, elite rim protector / defender.

Kobe Johnson - SF - 6'6 200 lbs. - USC. All Pac 12 defensive team in 23 and 24. 11 points / 5 reb. / 3.5 assist / 3 stocks per game (blocks & steals). 35% 3Fg shooter.

Couple of elite defensive guys, couple of elite scorers and assist guys. Need balance of offense and defense, these guys mixed in with whoever comes back and the new guys coming in would be a solid roster, we are very unlikely to get all or even most of these guys, but get players who fit this mode for roster building with balance.
There will be plenty of other players as talented to hit the portal, we just need to sign 3/4 of the best.

Travis Branham on Reed (and the other UK players) returning

Would be a major surprise if Reed or Dilly returns, neither likely or expected to be back

DJ - may return, still a question mark

Bradshaw - transfer portal seems likely

Ugo - transfer rumors are loud

Adou - will be the major priority of staff to get a return

Z - total mystery. Could return, go to NBA or go play pro in Europe

Because I dont care anymore , Do you think it's possible Cal sabotaged this year's March run ? And some of the season .

By refusal to start Dilly and or Reed . It doesnt take a grade schoolers coaching experience to see Dilly was best guard . Yeah Reed had serious stats , but Dilly was the game changer . If he didnt feel the need to-lay like Superman and rescue us constantly maybe he plays even better and smarter ? And this decision , this tweak to start Tre in the round of 64 , how does any staff with a functioning brain and.. AND will to win go that route . We know they are going to zone . We know Tre is 0-17 I believe on his previous 3 attempts , we know Justin and DJ are totally 100% unreliable shooting the J , so we run that out there ? I'm giving Cal credit here that maybe isnt deserved .. YOU CANT BE THAT STUPID !! I hate .. hate dragging up the " all I Want is my kids to get drafted " paraphrase but thats exactly whats gonna happen. Reed and Dilly can cash in , DJ can go pro in the G league , Justin can D league it . He protected those guys even though we all knew it was costing us wins . Maybe someone needs to say it out loud. Guy is intentionally trashing us . It doesnt " HIS" players .But it kills BBN . And what do you honestly think his view towards BBN is ? Fire away IDK.

Gone With The Wind

I guess it is time to get my 2 cents worth in. Ky basketball reminds me of the movie “ Gone With The Wind’ . I have been a fan since 1950 , this was one of the as a Kentuckian I was proud of the Big Blue all time wins , best won lost percentage and 8 natties. John Calipario has run it in the ground, we are Gone With the wind. when you play a tourney game against a 14 seed with best shooting guards in the country and your game plan against a team that zones is to go inside , is sick. I love Ky basketball but as long as Cal is in charge we are”Gone With The Wind”.

So is this really it?

So if Cal has another season like this season or even worse than I’m assuming nothing will be done? Knowing that as a Kentucky fan is very disheartening.

When all these Cal lovers start complaining next season, I will be sitting back watching and just laughing.

Fool me once shame on you
Fool me twice shame on me

I wont be fooled again

UL…Richard Pitino (not Rick…his son)

I hope to god UL second guesses hiring Richard Pitino. I truly think that Richard Pitino is a potential mega star in college basketball. He runs all of the same stuff his dad does. He has coached under his dad. He has a decade of experience…he’s 41. If he takes off at a decent program, he has 30+ years to dominate.

I know I am in the minority. But he is a guy I am eyeing to replace Cal. Don’t worry I will say I’m wrong if the time comes.

Farewell Tour Announcing

Why in the world would Mitch and Cal get on TV tonight. Has this ever happened before ? If it has I sure don’t ever remember. Maybe Cal has had enough. Possibly announcing his farewell tour where he will step into an Ambassador role next year and help with the hiring of a new coach. It’s the only thing that makes to me. I mean are they going discuss getting older, new recruiting strategies, possible coaching changes ? I don’t think so !!

Calipari is a Bad Coach (why has this gotten lost?)

I've gotten really frustrated over the last 4 days of discussions around NIL Chaos, more AD oversight, staff changes, getting older, etc as everyone seems to have lost sight of what matters most: None of this changes the fact that Calipari can no longer coach at a high level in CBB. He just can't.

If you were to look at the simplest elements of coaching (none of this other admin/GM/salesman garbage):
1. Preparation - notoriously bad. He admits he doesn't prep for other teams himself. This is constantly shown by our inability to attack gimmick defenses, defend particular star players (everyone has their best game against us).
2. Lineups - this isn't even about the starting line up (which is a joke), but just his overall rotations, usages, and lineup combos. They have consistently ignored any efficiency, +/-, and a slew of other modern stats that show which line ups perform best. Not only does Cal ignore it, he legit seems to choose lineups in spite of it.
3. In game adjustments - don't even get me started here. He's sucked at this his entire career.
4. Fundamentals - this last year's team was the most poorly coached, undisciplined defensive team I've ever seen. Search twitter for the review videos of how we can't hedge screens, don't position ourselves well on PNR, etc. It's all high school level defensive tactics and we do none of it.

I'm so over this sh*t. The discussion on Cal somehow veered off into bigger picture stuff, strategic adjustments, staff changes, etc. and none of it matters. Cal goes on a call in show with pre-selected "questions" and manages not to be a complete a$$hole for 1 hour and our media slobbers all over him. Cal could hire the best staff in the world, assemble the best roster in the world, have perfect alignment with Mitch and the donors and none of it would matter because at the end of the day he is the guy on the sidelines setting the wrong lineups, not making the adjustments and putting any and all talent in the best possible position to lose. He can not coach. What are we even doing here.

Richard Pitino

Hey guys don't laugh at me I've been following the Cats since 1966!! Let's assume this scenario: Let's hope Louisville doesn't jump and hire Richard Pitino. Assume Cal flames out next year and does his same average coaching with lots of talent, and Richard Pitino stays at New Mexico getting them back in the NCAA Tournament. We hire Richard as our next coach, he brings Dad Rick in as assistant coach. Rick grooms Richard to take over coach indefinitely!! He is a young upcoming coach just imagine with Rick at his side!! Don't flame me out guys!!
