Mickelson is still planning on not playing isn't he? I thought they said he was going to wait until the last possible second to withdraw in case something happened with the weather.

Be hard to pick against Dustin Johnson or Rory on a course this long. But neither in great form right now. Have to give Kisner a good chance with the way he's played this year. My dark horse as it usually is would be Oosthuizen. No reason why he hasn't won more with his game.

Kevin Na did an instragram video complaining about the long fescue too near the first cut of rough. It was brutal.

I don't have a good feel for who wins this on a new course. Long, with brutal rough. Accuracy of course, but may take some length, and strength to handle the distance and chopping it out of the long rough.

Things seem to be coming together for Jason Day. I'll go with him, but Rahm is formidable.

Looks like there will be a lot of opportunity for balls to get roll on this course. So maybe a shorter hitter who hits a low ball flight won't be as short as we might think. Conversely guys that hit high long balls may not be as advantaged. The US open always favors being in the fairway and hitting accurate shots at the right spot of the green. Unfortunately the right part of the green is often 20-30 feet away from the pin and you must not screw that putt up.

The talk of "length" being an advantage of this course is off the mark. If a guy can hit it long and straight, maybe. But straight will be the key this week. par is going to be a very good score. The rough is brutal and the greens are too. This place was built with a us open in mind.

Tim Rosaforte to Kevin Na about his Instagram post. "You are worried about pace of play?" Priceless. He said he said it to him on Live From and it made Na laugh.

No clue who is going to win. Course looks brutal to this golf hack. Will go with Noren.

Think Kuchar may have a run. He's been playing relatively consistently lately.

Give me Kisner or Grillo

Why is the USGA trying to turn our open into a British open? First chambers bay, which was a goat track and this thing. Hopefully they won't find no a way to screw this ibe up with stupid rulings or viewers calling in

Agree on Chambers, the 1/4 mile walk from one tee to another via a makeshift elevated steel bridge was ridiculous, I read where it took fans FOREVER to get from Point A to Point B on that course. Just didn't like it at all, seemed very contrived to me.

OTOH, I played Erin last summer and think it will be a hell of a venue. Very tough though, ridiculous bunker/green complexes and DO NOT hit into the heather, you may never come out again. But the ball rolls, and I think even a medium length hitter will have a chance, so long as he is accurate and putts really well. I bet a deserving top notch player wins (which to be fair, is what happened at Chambers)
