Russia - Ukraine WAR Warning: Political Discussions

That's the thing about Trump Republicans. They hate our country and blame it for everything to the point they attacked it on January 6th even though they have more excuses for doing it than you could listen to in a lifetime. I stopped to get gas in Alabama and was treated to a 45 minute sermon on all the conspiracies going on in Trumpland. I actually stood there and listened and even refilled my coffee. It was a tour de force of pure unvarnished insanity and it was also about 3am so it was quite a treat and at the same time utterly horrifying. I don't think the average normal American understands how far these nuts have gone down the rabbit hole.
From a guy who changes his handle to something even more pretentious with every nonsensical screed. You got us figured out now.

Democrats are strange creatures. Their irrational thinking continues to astound me. Saying we want WAR and the resulting negative impact on our country and our families lives just to make their side look bad?

I guess this must be how they think if the roles are reversed.

Jesus F**king Christ! It's no wonder we can't ever agree on anything. You MFers are nuts!

Russia’s move into Ukraine is going to raise the price of oil, and our leaders answer is to remove sanctions on Iran.

Before we know it we’ll be handing the Constitution to China at this rate of high level negotiating.

How about this non partisan take. Extend an invite to Ukraine to join nato next month. Let’s see who has the balls.

That would seem antagonistic. Which gets us around to the real points that we can’t discuss because of the TDS of people like Z and Ed…Putin and Russia have very valid concerns about NATO expansion. And, they view themselves as a great power and have since the time of Peter. It is wholly believable that they expect to have their own spheres of influence.

If it were 1939 and the mistakes of Munich could be rectified, maybe we could take bold action. But this is different. Oppenheimer made sure of that.

Keep going back and forth as to whether Putin wants Kyiv, thought initially he wanted the Donbas only east of Dnieper and this is essentially Crimea part 2. But Belarus is far away from Donbass and not only are the forces enlarging, but they were just made permanent, to the north. Don’t believe he’s using them as a distraction.

Recommend following Rob Lee on Twitter, he details the troop movements and provides daily updates with a firm grasp of what’s going on there.

And there is the root cause of this mess. Putin wants to take over Ukraine permanently to avoid exactly this move and he rightly perceives that NATO is at its weakest point post cold war era. Not all Biden's fault at all, but our exit from Afghanistan certainly helped display the west's current foreign policy weakness.

Let's be honest here, Ukraine has historically been a part of the Russian state, dating back to the Kievan Rus. We have no business interfering in this war and everyone on both sides knows it. I get the guarantee of state sovereignty in the modern era, but this same state was created with Russia on its knees after the fall of communism.

Put yourself in Putin's shoes. Say we join WW1 and lose. The Zimmerman telegram gives Mexico Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. You think a nationalistic minded modern US president wouldn't want those territories back? And those states didn't exactly create our modern society like the Kievan Rus did. I'm as anti Russia as any American but let's educate ourselves and not just scream "because the LEFT and because TRUMP!!"

Part of the problem is that our elected leaders, in both parties, have used Ukraine’s tenuous circumstance to enrich themselves.
Pay for play was alive and well there by teasing a NATO invite.

No they don't. Those countries have their own rights to choose & Russia should have no say. They are not Russian peoples.

We got us a winner here.

That’s not how it really is though. Spheres of influence are as old as states, as old as tribes even.

Nope. Russia didn't rule over Ukraine till 1700's - which is still a long time. Before that, if anything, Ukraine ruled over western parts of Russia.

Ref the idea of inviting Ukraine into NATO -

Apparently NATO was considering this and a second invitation to Georgia as well

Honestly - i can’t believe that NATO brass actually WANTS either country added to their ranks but the move would absolutely be needlessly provocative to Russia

The 2014-2015 ish fighting that had erupted within Ukraine led to a ceasefire agreement - and the terms of the Minsk agreement were more than adequate for providing a path back to normalcy -

the Minsk agreement also specifically states that local banking institutions and mechanisms will remain intact as opposed to western nations imposing / leveraging their own banks and financial organs (i’m paraphrasing but it’s in there - and i TRULY believe this is part of what pisses the western oligarchs off about this situation - they want control -/ financial control and ownership— and Russia says “nyet” to the pirates)

Ukraine isn’t a fight you take on as an isolated conflict - this is a hardline drawn by Russia and it includes historical, cultural, economic and even religious aspects of importance to them

Those who see Ukraine as a potential land annexation and/or resource grab to bolster NATO and weaken Russia’s position - lack the fortitude and conviction thats needed to win a war against a determination major military power

Peacekeeper invasion. lol
The above should be added to every page in this thread.

Do I have complete confidence in Biden? Despite what some may say here, hell no I don't. But imagine any current POTUS glowingly praising Putin during this invasion as the rest of the world looks on. Trump sounds as if he's cheering his buddy on to go further. Sooo, when do the Trump folks in this thread change their tune on Putin and begin saying we need to hug up to him and start admiring him, because they'll either do that or completely ignore their chosen one's glowing review of Putin's invasion.

Will Russia continue in the northern NATO nations estonia Lithuania

The Baltic nations ?
That’s interesting turf too

We have invested a good amount of money and time with the Baltic nations - and really it’s all happened in the relatively recent period of time

So i know we send military officers and provide training while also inking military weapon and equip sales - i don’t THINK we have anything significant by way of bases or garrisoned troops there ....although orders went out today to relocate a handful of US troops into the Baltic region somewhere

Here’s a link that provides a good outline of how the US and NATO have been diligently developing defense frameworks and shared org-functional elements with one another

You’ll notice that a lot of work has been applied in a fairly short amount of time - it’s part / parcel with NATOs eastward expansion — and again —- cause for concern if you’re Russia

Trump stated what’s obvious, Putin is running circles around Biden, or Biden was in on it.
Why are you concerned what Trump said in an interview no one heard or read today? My god, Biden couldn’t even read the teleprompter correctly today in his 5 minutes, and then took no questions.

Defending the indefensible. Not surprising. As I've said in the past, the old man isn't your grandpa. He's not going to leave any of you what's left of his empire. It's alright to break from the guy on one issue, but you don't. Praise Putin, bash Biden, or is it still Brandon?

There is no bottom that they will refuse to defend.

What is indefensible about it? What is the issue we’re supposed to break from here?

Putin is playing Biden, you know it but are deflecting to something Trump said, ignoring the facts on the ground.
It’s this level of feigned concern over things that are insignificant while ignoring the elephant in the room that’s maddening.
This is happening because oil is expensive, it happens every time oil is expensive. Democrats policies are what is making oil expensive with their “ green initiative”. Putin knows the west won’t do anything because $150 dollar a barrel oil will wreck their economies, so they back down.

It’s so GD preventable it’s absurd, don’t be weak, don’t hamstring yourself with dumb energy policies, and don’t remove military response right out of the gate, but by god Trump said something insignificant let’s feign outrage!

Biden is seen as a doddering old man by people inside and outside the country (and inside the Whitehouse).

Trump is living in a lot of people’s heads. The obsession is patent.

Biden is failing all on his own. Trump’s successes or failures in the past are of no moment when it comes to Bidan’s gaffes.

Makes me wonder if Russia’s play in Baltic Sea isn’t the Baltic States but Finland.

F politics right now , if Russia doesn’t stop then this could become much larger an issue. I personally have no clue, no one does but are we seeing when a super powerish decides to take revenge

If trump had rolled over for Putin zelensky would have been gone 4 years ago and yanokovych would be president of Ukraine. Instead putin waits for weakness then pounces
Oops, days not even over and we have Trump praising everything Putin has done so far. Yeah, he's a real tough character when it comes to his idol Putin.
