lol, of course you say that. Your side caused the corruption.
My side? Sorry if I don’t equate some conspiratorial claims of political corruption to the loss of life and/or liberty for 40M innocent humans beings. The fact that you’re okay with what’s going on because of some connection bw Hunter Biden and Ukraine says a lot.

Partisan? Sure. Just like the partisan vote that followed that led to him to not be convicted. Either way it’s documented with evidence that Trump wasn’t a friend to Ukraine.

Complete f*#kery nonsense. Who sold defense weapons to Ukraine when Oblama wouldn't? Who put all of this NATO stuff on Putin's doorstep? It wasn't during Trumps presidency. Ask either Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, etc. Ask em if they are still cashing checks from their Ukraine deals

Biden has done one thing well in this whole ordeal, had sime patience. It's going to require Ukrainian resiliency and patience on the world stage to prevent this thing from toppling over into full on global war. Hopefully those in control and in Ukraine have the willpower.
Patience? Or a vacation? This guy doesn’t do anything on his own. He’s a mere figurehead. He is hidden away and his handlers control every aspect even to the extent of not wanting him to speak to the press without scripted questions.

But yes, the Biden admin not doing anything is a small victory for all of us as his people have done everything to intentionally harm this nation.

You joined up yet? Go all the way, first Airborne, then Special Forces.
I have no idea how this is the response to my post. I have never once advocated for war with Russia or anyone. In fact if you read further up you’ll see where I say no one rational wants war with Russia. Saying that this is a critical existential time is my view of where things stand which means we should put aside partisan politics. Also, I have supported the US Air Force for 13 years to include a voluntary deployment as a civilian. Service members have been my best friends, coworkers, and bosses. I appreciate everything they do and do not want us involved in any wars unless it’s the absolute last resort.

lol “conspiratorial “

your side owns this mess. You all created this mess and now playing the victim card.
Russia is just as corrupt as Ukraine and you are ok with one side of it. Neither country is on the right side of history.

Also saw where the convoy they thought was 17 miles long is actually 40 miles long........clearly they are going to surround Kyiv. This is going to get very, very ugly and sad.
Not just Kiev. That's why they turned out the lights in Mariupol . They can't leave it at their back and once the have it they can bring in supplies via the Sea of Azov.

Old school medieval warfare. I guess if it works and all.

This is ridiculous. One country is invading another country unprovoked. That’s what this is. This isn’t the US’s mess as much as you’d like it to be.

Why does Putin get to have a say whether or not a neighboring nation is a part of a defense organization? I just don't understand this part. Regardless of who proliferated this (the Biden's have extensive ties as does Trump's former campaign manager when Ukraine was under russian control with Yanukocych) the Ukraine has sovereign rights to associate with whoever they want.

And, before you start talking about "sphere's of influence" that's literally Russia's game. See Belarus.

As Bill pointed out in his excellent post earlier, no action is an option and the best one at this venture. I've voiced my disdain for Biden, so this easily could be a win by default on his behalf.

I say it's the Mossad. Bad MFers.

If they were in Ukraine, it would be all over NOW.
Israel has a definite interest in what’s going on. They have a pact with Russia regarding Syria and many Jewish people left Ukraine to make Aaliyah. There are still significant Jewish populations in Ukraine. Zelensky is Jewish. I wouldn’t be surprised if Israeli intelligence is trying to help find a resolution.

at the same time though they must watch because Iran may take advantage.

Come on, people. There's a thread specifically for politics. Some of us want to see news about the damn war, you know, what this thread was created for.

NEWSFLASH. None of you are going to change anyone else's mind about their politics, so you are doing nothing but wasting your own time.
Wrong, how can call living their lives the only way they know a waste of time?

I’m sure you could start another thread to discuss climate change. All I’ll say is existential crises are not mutually exclusive. This thread is focused on the Russia/Ukraine which is incredibly impactful on our future for a myriad of reasons.
First tell that to the folks that derailed this thread to talk abortion.

I stand corrected on the crimea sanctions, he attempted to overturn them immediately and ended up being overruled by congress. The sanctions you linked were quickly defanged by Trump as he allowed depriashk (spelling?) to maintain control during the sanctions.

On the second point, and much like Biden failed to do so, you have to have a smart exit strategy. Trump literally blind sided the kurds and us with the withdrawal. Once again, many Republicans spoke out about how wrong this was. I believe it was colonel Powell who so wisely told us all to never enter a place without a plan to leave. We pretty consistently get that wrong. Also, Obama fumbled the bag on Syria. Yall are right about that. Set red lines, adhere to said lines.

I'll give Trump credit for getting Kim to look reasonable and hold talks. But it was evident by the fact that Kim constantly tested missiles I spite of these talks (and real pressure from China and Russia) that he was just enjoying the attention. Meanwhile, Trump canceled military exercises with south Korea, calling them provocative (as if test missile launches aren't) and spent more time praising Kim, after insulting and threatening him first, while bad mouthing Germany, France and England. Just wasn't a good look in my mind.
1. Could you direct me to an article from an organization besides the progressive news organs showing proof that he was going to end the sanctions? Also, I often add more of something I wanted to do away with like adding 250 more sanctions to the 350 that were in place. Makes complete sense.
2. He had a strategy. The US left. Was the US going to rebuild Syria? Hand Syria over to the Kurds? The US owes zero to the Kurds. The US had gone through most of this in Iraq, why replay the same game? Get more soldiers killed and burn through some more cash which all sounds great if you are Raytheon or Dupont.
3. During negotiations you show good faith and talk with your opposition. If it works great if doesn't the US lost nothing. No other President has attempted to negotiate with the guy. Why not give it a try? The US lost nothing by talking.

Are you serious with this? I mean, really. Would you be cool if Mexico decided to become involved in a joint Chinese or Russian alliance and then decided to import SRBMs and anti missile defenses into the USA's backyard?

I would not.

You do realize that the only reason China isn't elbow deep in South America is because we have let it be known for over a hundred years that any attempt to do so, by any nation, will result in a large American stick being shoved up their ass and broke off.

Wouln't Russia be bordered by even more NATO countries if it "annexed" Ukraine? Sounds like a win-win if it was left as a buffer nation.

I'm very serious with this. If we were at war with Mexico within the past 100 years your point would have merit. We're strategic allies and have been for quite some time now. We don't siphon off parts of Mexico (to my knowledge) in the modern era for our own sense of entitlement (or Imperialist Tendencies for you tight wads).
If we were constantly threatening our neighbors with war/annexation, you might assume that they would seek the aid of a China/Russia etc. At this point, the only reason you would say that Russia would have merit in attacking the Ukraine was if they were antagonizing them in some way. I've read no reporting of such things on any source of news.

Besides, allying yourself with someone (which Ukraine really hasn't even done as Putin has kept them in conflict for the past decade to prevent NATO allegiances) is no reason to invade a sovereign nation.

I can't believe we have to argue about why it's bad that Russia is attacking Ukraine, but here we are. And I also don't get the talking point that they're both bad. Even if they were equally corrupt (which they absolutely aren't based on Putin's power grab and dictator extensions) that doesn't justify an invasion, at all.

Well anyone saying that putin wasn't pushed into this now is delusional. Still a bad guy. But as the leader of Rusiia with geopolitics being what they are.... he had to invade Ukraine or risk being choked to death slowly.

yeah it’s a pick your poison situation. Both countries being run by very bad people. Both countries have people that will suffer, yet only one side in America is ok with the two set of bad people. I don’t get it.

1.) Admittedly I'm going off of recollection from watching C-SPAN early on and hearing both sides argue about the merit of sanctions at that juncture. Let me do some research and make sure my claim isn't inherently false. My apologies, if so.
2.) He had a strategy, but, much like Biden, his execution was awful. We basically left overnight and gave the Kurds and tactical allies no leeway in processing our decision. They ended up fleeing their own territory as a result. Endless war isn't the answer but the way that whole situation played out seemed to have an element of (gag) collusion.
3.) That's true and fair. Admittedly, and unrelated, I vehemently dislike Trump's approach to pretty much any leadership capacity. So to see him try to lure KJU into negotiations by insulting him and then threatening to attack him struck me as odd. But, he got him to the table, so maybe it worked?

I'm literally stunned reading you guys right now. Putin was pushed into this? Ukraine was going to topple Moscow if he didn't invade overnight? It's no surprise that Ukraine was moving towards the West since the USSR broke up. As nearly everyone observing has noted, Ukraine looks more European than Russian every day.

None of that, absolutely none of it, justifies invading a sovereign nation. By the way, this is twice in 8 years. It's clear he wasn't pushed into shit. He's testing his limits and learning a hard lesson.

lol, faux outrage. Most of us in this thread know Russia is a legitimate threat and needs to be in check. Also most of us know that your liberal heroes also funded a color revolution and covered up political crimes through the NWO. Ukraine parliament member admitted it on camera

Girthang, you keep questioning why Putin is proceeding in the manner he is as if he's some kind of master tactician. The guy still poisons his enemies in the 21st century. He's a brutish imp of a man who was molded by a hyper masculine (no PC culture, just an observation) and ruthless KGB. Everything he does is quantified by power and the dynamics that result from that power.

Taking Chernobyl could be strategic. Could be symbolic. Could also be a feather in his cap to boost morale for his armies.

But it also could be that the man is mentally ill, in control of nukes and is putting a shit ton of pressure on the rest of the world in the hopes that he gets, well, the Ukraine?

I'm going to assume he just wants to re-establish the old USSR before he can't physically achieve it, and that is all this is. One massive dick measuring contest with human lives as the currency.
Not Putin.... There are generals in charge of "the plan" that invaded chechnya and georgia. We saw how that played out. This isn't playing out like those. Chechen war was terribly brutal.... on both sides. Russian soldiers seem to think they are doing a peace keeping mission because a few that were taken prisoner were shocked they weren't being hailed as liberators. It is just weird. I saw a general on fox or abc say the same. There are things he expected Russia to do the first few days that they just aren't doing... and its not just that Ukraine is fighting harder than he thought. The electric is on and internet up and tv and radio are all still working... that's the first hour of bombing right there.

You’re right about that. The far right wing groups in Ukraine have been welcomed into the Ukrainian army. To what extent are Nazis an issue in Ukraine is the debate I suppose. I’m not knowledgeable enough to have a strong opinion on that. I’d say most people don’t know about the political makeup of Ukraine.
Its not far right in the sense we think... they are socialist. I've heard its around 26% of the country belongs to the nazi party, but you'll hear people argue + or - on that #, but they align with other socialist groups to go against pro russian groups and communist groups. Ukraine has like 15 political parties. None of them are what we would call free market capitalist. Some of the largest militias are definitely nazi party armies.
