Why don't these things ever wait for clean and clear-cut anniversaries?

If they could have just waited until April 6th, this could have started on the 30 year anniversary of the Bosnian War. Another conflict started during an administration that couldn't control itself, much less deter anyone internationally.

For all of the BS about the last president's "war-mongering" before and during his presidency, this muppet that replaced him seems a lot more comfy with what Russia is doing than he is with people not wearing paper masks. Putin is just hoping to get this done before sniffy starts whispering at press conferences again.

You hear mentions getting brought back up of Russian soldiers low morale.

Any former military in here have any thoughts on that? Think it could make any significant impact on such a large scope operation like this?

I have not heard anything about that but if true and widespread it would put a huge damper on a swift take over. That was a major factor in the Gulf War and keeping our casualties so low. The Iraqi regular Army was war weary having fought with Iran for so long and were not "battle hardened" as some experts (except Israel) suggested. That and being bombed every night for about 30 days prior to the ground war. I literally saw hundreds myself walking towards our units and the Saudi border with their hands in the air looking desolate and unwilling to fight further. We just sent them on to the rear because we were not set up to take prisoners as we were moving forward to engage the Republican Guard Force.

There is only one person who is responsible for this war and that is Vladamir Putin. This was unprovoked. You don't send peacekeeping forces into a country that is already at peace. There also are no agreements anywhere that said that Nato would not add new members to the East after the fall of the Soviet Union. In the 90's there was even conversations about Russia joining Nato. Those are all Russian talking points and have been for decades.

I personally never thought it would get to this, but now I believe it is time to start taking Putin at this word. In his speech he gave earlier in the week he spoke specifically about reclaiming the Soviet empire. Given the events of today, the world has to believe that this is a start not an end. This is all going to escalate quickly, and I hope it can be contained before it reaches a cataclysmic level.

On a side note, I think it will be very important to see how Hungary responds to this. They are Nato members, but they are also currently being ruled by an Autocrat with his own visions of grandeur. He may start making overtures about rescuing the Slavs in Romania and we see a new war front open up.

I have to wonder if this pushes Finland and Sweden toward joining NATO. Finland and portions of Sweden were part of the Russian empire, and this move along with Putin's speech has apparently spooked at the very least Finland.

Yeah, Germans liked us being there. There was a lot of money in it for them and "peace" of mind defensively. But there were always those who considered it an occupation which I believe grew over the years. It was a big drain on our budget though.
