Russia - Ukraine WAR Warning: Political Discussions

It is interesting to learn that the Biden administration is talking to natural-gas producers to understand their capacity and see if they’re able to surge their production to meet impending shortages. Natural gas production was an issue in the campaign and has been for years for the Dems. Hopefully, they will set that aside, if not for the American consumer, then for the political impact in November.

Another thing I find interesting is that I was taught in various history classes that one of the key reasons for the fall of the USSR was diversity in languages and cultures that were unable to be identified under a common nation.

These problems don't just go away if Russia takes over ethnically Ukrainian areas. At that point, their options are limited to ethnic cleansing, brutality or citizen discontent.

Everything I've read recently Donbas suggests is ethnically Ukrainian by majority as well.

I havent been there but my buddy is married to a Ukrainian woman. She seemed to say the south east is highly Russian and gets more anti russian the further you go east. Percentages are all over the place but it is a fact that the USSR starved out millions of Ukrainians when they annexed Ukraine in the 1930's. After 4 million people died the Soviets moved poor Russians into that area to help pacify the populace and make them either scared or hopeless and to identify as Soviet.

I would say it depends on what is spoke in the home and what is spoke on the street or what is listed as the official language on a government website. Im not saying they want to rejoin Russia but they want to be economically and politically linked to Russia more than to Europe. You can tell that by the elections over the last 20 years. Pro Russian presidents win the east and pro euro presidents win the west.

The maidan revolution was backed and started by the cia and state dept. When Yanukovych was kicked out of office a very pro US/ Euro president was installed. The next election a tv comedian won the presidency from the US backed candidate.

True. So if you were a heavily Jewish city, like say Odessa, and the Ukraine government was largely neo nazi, would you be a little nervous even if you thought of yourself as Ukrainian?

I guess. Is that an argument?

For us not getting involved? yea!!! That whole country is a mess and the only reason we are there is to F with russia. I'd rather not start a war with a nuclear power right now. It's not our fight even though our government is to blame for this.
Is anyone arguing that?

Still haven’t seen a reasoned argument on why Russia taking Ukraine is good and the US should stay away but China doing the exact same thing to Taiwan is bad for the exact same reasons and the US should go to war.

The world is getting smaller and smaller. More and more countries are shifting to authoritarianism. The Big Three all want their spheres of influence. We’ll just keep butting heads until someone lights a match to end it all.

Just a hypothetical, but if Russia takes Ukraine and China were to move on Taiwan would the US counter?

Edit, I didn’t see MOC’s post when I posted this.

Because China is an actual threat to the US, no offense to Russia but they’re Navy is ancient.
Also, I imagine Japan would get involved if Taiwan were attacked, and they are on par with Great Britain as far as Ally’s go.

No one is arguing its good.... but... Because Ukraine is a corrupt country that would likely sell any military hardware we gave them to defend themselves.... and Taiwan is a functioning democratic republic that believes in free trade and freedom in general. Russia is not a threat outside of their neighbors and China is the biggest threat in the world right now. Engaging Russia drives them to China and then a big problem gets bigger.

And Im not even saying we should defend Taiwan at this moment without knowing where Korea, Japan, and the southeast Asian countries stand.

The azov militia who fought the Russians in Crimea are neo nazis. The other thing is there are large Jewish populations in Ukraine and in their communities they identify more with Russian culture than anything else. This isn’t as straight forward as our media portrays it. And there are other treaties that percievebly have been broken.

Anyone with a massive nuclear arsenal is a threat to the United States. Anyone that can launch an attack on Europe and NATO is a threat.

Again, China and Russia have the same aspirations and use the same arguments to justify what they’re doing. Both are authoritarian controlled and seek to have their spheres of influence. Both are in the wrong but we got a lot of folks around here that I think would change their tune about going to war if it was China.

They were for 10 pages.
Okay, but agenda aside, have had conversations with handful of Ukrainians. They look at that differently. From their perspective, the Russians who exist in Ukraine exist because Russia brought them there. One told me that the ethnic conflict is due to education (or lack thereof) to some degree. At the same time, it’s not as if the Russians born there had a choice in where they are born. So, what do you do if you’re Ukraine in that situation?

There’s also a concerted effort to move and legalize Russians abroad, furthermore bolstering the argument you are making.

It’s definitely not as cut and dry though as a majority of people in the area “wanting to join Russia.”

This is just the same Trumpian talking points “China bad. China Evil. All my homies hate China”

A hostile, expansionist Russia led by a tin pot dictator on the border of Europe is bad news. Just like China taking control of the South China Seas and “annexing” Taiwan.

China has the capability to hit militarily as well as financially.
I don’t think we’d go to war if China attacked Taiwan, I think the US population is war weary. I think it’d take an attack on the US or our military.

Good lord, China is a real threat to the US, besides having nukes. They could stand toe to toe with us, and have a billion people.

GD, you still yapping about shit you don't have a clue about. 😂

Point on the doll where Trump hurt you. Please. You are ate up

The reason that I mention Germany specifically when it comes to troop movement is because Germany is the one European country that they can't afford to push too far. Russia needs Germany to get their gas to market. Germany gets a ton of natural gas from Russia and that amount is going up when the new pipeline is certified. If Germany were to risk domestic problems at home in order to stop Russian aggression in Ukraine then it would be a very clear message to Putin that he had overplayed his hand.

Germany doesn't want to get involved in any of this. It doesn't help their interest, which is why their support has been lukewarm. Putin's aggression is putting them in a situation that may leave them with no choice but to pick sides. They are the only major Nato power that hasn't sent troops yet. If they were to send them, then Russia have no room to maneuver. They face losing one of their biggest economic partners and a hardening of Nato's position against them.

Ultimately for Russia, it appears their endgame is to annex the Eastern Oilfields of Ukraine in the Donbas region. Germany might have even supported that move if it would have played out in a method that didn't involving 190,000 troops on the Ukranian border. That isn't a luxury they will have now.
Russia doesn’t “need” Germany, they will just turn around and sell their gas to China or other countries to make up for the difference.

Nobody “needs” Germany, nobody fears Germany, and Germany is no longer a reliable U.S. ally, we need to move our forces to Poland or Hungary where they will be appreciated and not freeloading off the U.S.

Nobody cares how strong their economy is, Germany is irrelevant in terms of a militaristic sense. Pay your NATO dues, cowards.

This is correct and reasonably so. We should not engage either at this point. Our numbers are down, wokism runs amok, morale is low, and the standards have been lowered for the second reason therefore weakening our forces capabilities to do their job.

Go look up russia's navy and their gdp and population and deep water ports. Then do the same for China. Also look at who is actually buying off our politicians and celebrities. I don't see Swalwell and Lebron packing water for putin but they will suck off winnie the pooh in china like they like it. You watch too much msm and don't do any actual investigating on your own.

I didn't say they wanted to "join" russia. I said be tied to. I think they just want to be independent of Ukraine if we're being honest. Ideally we wouldn't make them choose and they could trade with any country as they see fit. Our state dept likes to put countries in a position of us or them. I don't care what Ukraine does I just don't want Americans dying there when half that country is gonna fight for the other side. I have a cousin who is a ranger and a nephew in a NG airborne unit. I'd rather they not die over some bullshit.

The state dept left Ukraine when they started this mess. Now they want kids, who they would probably dislike politically and religiously, to go for their cause.

I can't tell if this is a troll job or not.

Germany is Russia's third biggest Trade partner. They are also their second biggest trade deficit partner, meaning they import a lot more from Germany than they export. If they lose Germany their economy would crater overnight. Especially since a lot of what they are importing is food. Nationalism sounds great, but it won't feed anyone.
