MLB Draft Round 16 Last Round

Grabbing my closer, I'm going with a man in the top dozen all time closers according stat guru Bill James. 5th all time saves leader with 45. Reds and Mets lefty, John Franco.
My first backup will be a catcher with a little experience at first base. A switch hitting 5x all star and 4x world champion. 275 career homers and top 20 all time WAR for catchers, Jorge Posada.

I'll take Gerrit Cole as my 4th starter. Two back to back monster seasons and signed an outrageous contract with the Yankees this past off season.

2019 season
20-5, 2.50 ERA and a modest number of strikeouts 326!

Hard luck for him JV threw a no-no. Probably what tipped the scales for the Cy Young.

For my backup infielder I'll be taking a Hall of Fame Detroit legend Alan Trammell, who had a monster 1987 year where he brings gold glove defense, a near 350 batting average with a 950 OPS, with 28 home runs and 21 stolen bases. He could even fill the role of player-manager considering he later managed the Tigers.

Brian McCann. Bill James sure likes him and that appears to mean something - lol. And he bats left. Quite well, in fact. 282 career homers, seasonal average on RBIs for his career is 94. He averaged 1 triple every 3 seasons over his 15 year career, so no problem holding him on first base after he walks or singles. Not bad behind the plate, not great. Bat production makes him highly desirable on a post-season roster. Reputation for hitting good pitching and being clutch about it throughout his career.

@csrupp the board is yours

@KopiKat unfortunately is required to have a duplicated player due to his name. Just happens to be Steve Finley in this draft
Thanks . . . wow, I really appreciate that. I'll take two of these guys . . . and btw, shouldn't you have at least one Norwegian? Pseudo-Viking type?

Wow, old timers indeed. No telling what those cats brought with them - probably responsible for lingering feudalism culture within the game, lol. Baseball factoids are incredible.

I'm sure they were quite the characters in the clubhouse

Did you check out those stats? Mr. Anderson did himself proud. Had some damn fine seasons in his day. Led the league in triples and slugging % in 1898. Tied for 4th in home runs. Pretty cool find on your part.

Lol well the Norse part of my name as I'm sure you know is more about my diploma from NKU than some Norwegian heritage. I'll have to take a pass on drafting these fine gentleman.

But you are a fine conman ;)

No, i did not know that. Nku is excellent. I have a close relative, just outside immediate family, formerly a department Dean there. Retired now.

Mr. Anderson makes for outstanding reading material. Enjoyed this thoroughly.

Give me the most recent MVP of the World Series who is coming off a postseason of 5-0, 1.98 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 36 innings. This season proved that when healthy he's capable of being a top pitcher in the game and be a clutch player when given the opportunity.

Stephen Strasburg

Well, going into this I was looking forward to drafting some true all-time legends that I’ve never had the opportunity to draft before in a fantasy league. Outside of Micro League baseball, at least. But, even though I know I’m gonna lose votes bc a lot voters won’t know my players, I just can’t stop myself from taking so many of these guys.

I need a starting SS & I can’t believe this guy is still available. I’ve intentionally passed on him the last 3-4 rounds as somewhat of an experiment to see exactly how far he would fall. But, apparently I’m his only saving grace from UDFAhood. There are a cpl of recent guys I really wanna take too & was kinda hoping this guy would be drafted to make the decision for me & save my conscience. Lol. But, he’s still there & no way I can pass on arguably the best SS of his era & certainly one of the best ever this late in the draft. He will also become my 3rd player manager, which wasn’t a tactical move, just dumb luck. But, I should at least have a smart team.

Some refer to him as the A-Rod of his time bc Boston bought his contract for $250K in 1934, at the height of the Great Depression. He never won an MVP but finished in the top 10 in voting 5 times (runner up in ‘33) & was a 7 time all-star & a HOFer. He had 8 seasons of at least 100 RBI & had 94, 95 & 95 in 3 other seasons. His slash is .301/.390/.468/.857 & he averaged 39 2B, 9 3B, 13 HR, 109 RBI & 94 runs scored/162 game season. I’ll take Joe Cronin.

@JHannibalSmith I say this with the utmost respect as commissioner of this draft... and as someone 3 whiskey drinks deep.

Who the hell is Joe Cronin.... is he related to that shitty Ex-UC basketball coach?

He hosts that talk show & used to write for SNL, right? Tall red head. God, I hope he’s not from THAT batch of Cronins, lol. But, that’s why I’m not gonna win being judged by votes. And, I’m fine with it. I’m really just trying to draft the best team I can & not really worrying about votes. But, I’d LOVE my chances in a simulation. I’ve always had probably too MUCH respect for the past in baseball & might overvalue some of them but I’m a sucker for big stat lines from the old days & was fascinated by them thru my childhood. But, an interesting FYI on Cronin; he’s the only man to ever be a star player, manager, GM & a league president (AL).

I'm still a little drunk to comprehend all of that.. but hopefully one of our outstanding members are still planning to do try and simulate our league.

I did buy OOTP however you can't customize leagues :( fun game though!

@UKNorse , this is another player you probably haven't heard of. His pitching career was cut short with a broken thumb. He should be in the HOF anyway. He was a brilliant pitcher with a w/l of 117 to 57, a career ERA of 2.03 and a season best 34 wins in 1912. His 5 year numbers between 1911-1915 are up there with the legends.

I pick Smoky Joe Wood

@jcrow10 is at the plate
