MLB Draft Round 16 Last Round

Man, still a lot of really good players out there.
No doubt. I'm sure when we are finished, someone come in and pick a team of "leftovers" and while they wouldn't win it all, I bet the could win a couple specific matchups because there is so much talent and voting is so subjective.

I’m gonna round out my rotation with one of the best LHP ever. He’s a HOFer & was the ace of the Yankees dynasty of the 30s. He helped lead them to 5 WS titles, going 6-0 with a 2.86 ERA. He won at least 20 games 4 times in his 11 full seasons & won the AL pitching triple crown in ‘34 & ‘37. He also won the AL pitching title in both years, which was the precursor to the Cy Young award. He played in the first 7 all-star games, starting in 1933. He won 189 games, averaging 19 wins/season & had a career 3.34 ERA in the offense heavy 1930s but had to retire at 33 due to arm issues & a desire to help out during WW2. He’s also Yogi Berra lite when it comes to famous quotes. I’ll take Lefty Gomez.

Perhaps going out on a limb, but two time Cy Young winner in back to back years, postseason success with starter and save experience.

2-0 in the World Series 2.25 era
Facing 77 batters gave up 1 HR
11 hits to 23 strikeouts with over 10 strikeouts per 9 for career.

Tim Lincecum

Well I guess I'll take one of the most dominant closers in baseball history, one of the few that have been inducted into the Hall and one of only 9 relievers to win the Cy Young. He was the first pitcher put in the Hall who had not started a game. He was easily the best closer of his generation. I'll take Bruce Sutter.

One of my favorite players of all time. If he could’ve just kept his head on straight. He was still great, but could’ve been even greater.
My all-time favorite quote on the subject of performance enhancing drugs:

"Amphetamines make a baseball look like a big 'ole thing" . . . Darryl Strawberry

Dude had some problems. Could and should be talking about one of the great sluggers to ever play the game when you mention him, yet you still sort of are.

I have a glaring hole at 2nd base right now... so let me bring on one of the best hitters at that position.

I’d like to suggest we go to 2 hour limits for the remainder of the draft. Let people draft as many makeups as they need whenever they’re available. If not that’s fine as this is just for fun, but I’m afraid we will never get this finished if not
Yeah but some of us have legitimate excuses. Like right now, I’m about to go to sleep. I have to go into work at 9. I’ve also been sitting around the entire weekend waiting to make these two picks. Sure as shit, I’ll fall asleep and it’ll all the sudden become my pick. Happens every damn time.

I understand and we don’t have to change it. I’m in no way trying to be rude or even upset by the slowness of the draft, just think it’s going to take another week or two to finish at least at this rate. I have nothing but time, however lol

Oh no, you’re good, bro. I understand where you’re coming from completely. I definitely think there should be some modifications to this. Some excuses are genuinely warranted and others just aren’t. LOL Idk how we could do it fairly.

I will take a man who was a 5x all star, a world champion, finished just shy of 2500 hits and 500 homeruns, and hit .303 with 10 homers in 50 post season games. The Crime Dog, Fred McGriff.
For my second pick we go into the way back machine to finish my starting rotation. Not to dredge up the Koufax/Kershaw debate from earlier, but this man also had a dominant 5 year run and like Koufax, had his career cut short, not from injury but by his death from menegitis. He is the all time career leader in WHIP at .0968 and second in era at 1.89. From 1904-1908, he was 106-53. In his debut, he tossed a 1-hitter and toward the end of his career, he threw a perfect game and beat Hall of Famer Ed Walsh, 1-0. The Hall of Fame ignored their rule requiring a 10 year minimum career for him to be inducted. Addie Joss.

I think requiring people to have the "whatsapp" going forward would make these drafts flyby. Can't beat a text message to your phone telling you its time to make a pick lol

2 hours is a little too fast to mandate and would be harder on myself to keep bouncing between updating picks.

I'm going to have Ozzie Smith come off the bench. Smith and Andruw Jones are going to be quite the defensive replacements.

My new starting shortstop Luke Appling

In his 20 years in the major leagues, Appling had a slash line of .310/.399/.398. He had 2,749 hits, including 440 doubles, 102 triples and 45 stolen bases. He had 1,116 RBIs, 1,319 runs and 1,302 walks, while striking out 528 times. His career WAR, 74.5, is 50th all-time among position players.

Oh and at 75 years old he hit a homerun off of Warren Spahn
