MLB Draft Round 16 Last Round

I'll take Jose Altuve . . . and go ahead with your issues from 2017. Jose has had a solid career and he hits better away from Minute Maid park anyhow. And one day he may be remembered as the best pro ball player to ever come out of Lexington. He's won his MVP, a championship, 3 batting titles, led the league in stolen bases multiple years. Were it not for the CV19 he would be close to 1700 hits already, 30 years old. I'll take him.

@podgejeff_

Good pick... there is still a few players I want to pick but I'm concerned on how the public will view them. Baseball is the worst sport to cheat in lol

Well since you guys want to make a run on all of the great catchers, I guess I better pick one up while supplies last.

I'll take Joe Mauer. That 2009 season looks like something that would happen in the 20s, from a catcher.

@UKNorse on the clock

Depends on what team is involved. Btw, how exactly did the Reds win in 1919?

Question my pick would be Oscar Charleston.... BUT however he's never played in the major leagues. I know we let Satchel Paige slide however he did spend a few years in the MLB.

I realize we never qualified this and I'm sure this guy would of been picked much earlier if so. Doesn't matter me.

I'm cool with one objection... I just want to get this out of the way if someone thinks about this guy later on.

Take who you want man. Basically everyone recognizes the Negro Leagues as a major part of baseball history, and Satchel Paige wouldn't be drafted if you were just taking his MLB history into account.

I'll let 1 or 2 chime in.. before making it official.

I have no issue with it. Satchel did at least play MLB but we didn't qualify that "peak years" necessarily had to be in the MLB.

Yep, Negro League players who never played in MLB are still in the Hall of Fame, so...

Sorry for the go around... Think I'm going to pick Mookie Betts.

Don't want the hassle of arguing Oscar.. he's a bit of a myth/legend I'm cool with someone else taking him. Some historians say he was the 5th best baseball player of all time. But likely a hard sell with no stats and to mostly basketball fans lol

@Cowtown Cat you are up.

If you do, you are smarter than me, because I've went back and forth on about 8 different people until I settled on the final two.

Personally, I’m not going to penalize a guy for juicing. But I will consider them human. I don’t look at Bonds as a 73 home run guy, but he’s still a top 10 or so player. Ditto McGuire. He’s still a 50 home run hitter without the sauce. Clemens was right about as good when using as he was when he wasn’t. He was just doing at 40 what he was when he was in his 20’s.

One thing my lineup is missing to this point is 400 plus home run power. So why not pick up two of them. My first pick technically only had 399, but more than makes up for that with his all around stellar play. 18 x all star, 10 x gold glove winner, world series champion, and league hitting champ. Yogi Berra once said he had the greatest outfield arm ever.

Mr. Tiger, Al Kaline.

With the second pick, I'll take a man who by all accounts, was one of the most respected men in baseball history.. He was a 7x all star, 2x World Series champ, and hit 475 blasts including 2 completely out of Dodger Stadium. He was named the 1979 MVP. An as yet undrafted hall of fame pitcher describes him this way. "I never saw anything like it. He doesn't just hit pitchers, he takes away their dignity."

Willie "Pops" Stargell.

I was deciding between Kaline and Mookie... deciding factor to me was the MVP that Mookie just won and should of had a 2nd. Plus Mookie still has another 10 years.... good pick though I was heavily interested until deciding to risk a modern player.

I was hoping everybody had forgotten about Kaline. :) Good pick.

I'm conflicted with my next pick... Defense Vs Offense (well both players have both but the spectrum definitely swings)

I was taking Kaline if not for the run on catchers.

anyone already eyeing a set lineup? you’ll find yourself wanting to know if there is a dh or not? are we submitting lineups in the end?
