MLB Draft Round 16 Last Round

You just ripped my heart out. He was my all time favorite non-Red. Hell of a player and it's hard to say about any Hall of Famer, but I feel he was underrated.
he could golf home runs. however he learned to hit it was unique. he was a favorite of mine as well. he’d do freakish things every so often.

Yeah, great pick. I was between him and Whitey Ford. Really like Hubbell a little better, but decided to go with Ford's larger World Series experience. Hubbell was a beast.

I was down to those two also. I was having a hard time deciding & glad you made it easy for me. Without looking idk if any pitcher has more WS experience or success than Whitey. 10 wins & an MVP over 11 WS is impressive as hell.

It's been better since me and @Cowtown Cat 's wife hugged it out.
Just can’t help it, can you? You know he’s not going to like that
Very good pick. He was one I was torn on.
Thank you. I was torn between he and two other 2B’s, one currently playing, but his combination of offense and defense for that 10 year stretch was ultimately too good to pass up

I will take an offensive powerhouse at the catcher position, Mike Piazza. Hope that wasn't your guy, you're up @CB3UK .
Wow. I said I didnt think it would be likely because I didnt think anyone else was gonna go catcher right now. I was literally thinking of him or Gary Carter. Unflippingcanny.

I will however gladly take Gary Carter behind the plate. If it cant be Johnny Bench, hard to complain about getting GC for sure.

@JHannibalSmith saddle up

Sorry about that. I had a feeling we were both going there. I just had to have some fire power.

It’s probably a little early for this guy but he’s a HOFer & 4 time GG winner. Finished with 3000 hits, 400 SB & has the 5th most doubles ever at 668. I’m a sucker for versatility & he’s eligible to play C, 2B & CF & serve as my leadoff hitter. I’ll take Craig Biggio.

Hard to type while driving, back to my desk now. I wouldn't have ever done that had it not been cool. Now, if it was Gonzo.....

I honestly like what you’ve done so far. Satchel Paige would be my only critique, and only because he never got to really shine in the majors
Granted but he did get to play against many, many MLB greats while he was in the Negro League. There are also reasonable stats for him now as well. Not to mention, he was better than the legendary Jackie Robinson. I'll have a lot of support for him when the time comes.

I wouldn’t say it’s too early for a guy like him. He wasn’t elite an anything but he was good at everything. Good speed, good power, good fielder. Just all-around solid player. Although he used to annoy the hell out of me with his giant helmet and how he’d blatantly stick his elbow out to get hit by a pitch.

Agree with the Jackie Robinson comparison. He’s another I wouldn’t necessarily have drafted based on production, but he and Satchels name alone may get votes. If so, the picks were certainly worth it.

Maybe we should cancel the 3 bench players if it’s another 150 picks ? Lol just don’t think they’ll mad a diff in judging going off how nba went

“Here’s a guy who is the most feared in baseball, but everyone pitches around him. If you let him bat 600 times and pitched to him instead of around him, he’d hit 80 home runs.” – Sparky Anderson

Called the "scariest hitter in baseball" by Bob Gibson it's ludicrous to think this guy is still available. The HOF had the best WAR in his peak seasons 68/69 of any offensive player in the NL.

Rookie of the year
1968 3rd AS voting
1969 NL MVP/AS MVP-
68/69/70 Slugging % leader
63/68/69 led league in HRs and RBIs
5th all time in Intentional Walks--
-- overall an offensive juggernaut/

Give me Willie McCovey

Musial had a career .324 average against Koufax.
A couple of short Musial stories. Everyone loved Stan. A Chicago paper ran a contest for fans to pick their favorite player. Despite being a Cardinal, Stan won the vote. He always had a smile on his face. Once during his prime, a writer asked Stan why he was always smiling. Stan said, "You'd be happy to if you knew you were going to hit .350." Mike Shannon said if you look in the bat racks, everyone's bats had little dings from the handle to the end of the bats. The little dings were where the bats connected with the ball. He said you look at Stan's bats and all the little dings were in a 6 inch area around the sweet spot.

it does make a difference. i would have made a few different picks if the lineup wasn’t going to be deep enough to have actual dynamic.

I had a handful of other options that were far more productive than Biggio but 2B were going fast. He’s worthy of the pick but if not for the depleting 2B he would’ve been my 4th or 5th choice there. I was worried he wouldn’t make it back to me though so I sacrificed better production for fit & necessity. I’m really liking the drafting of an actual on field product much more than a fantasy team based on stats alone.

Gosh I have a boom or bust pick just can't decide if I want to pull the trigger.

I'll take Jose Altuve . . . and go ahead with your issues from 2017. Jose has had a solid career and he hits better away from Minute Maid park anyhow. And one day he may be remembered as the best pro ball player to ever come out of Lexington. He's won his MVP, a championship, 3 batting titles, led the league in stolen bases multiple years. Were it not for the CV19 he would be close to 1700 hits already, 30 years old. I'll take him.
