Tubby was to lazy to recruit. He wanted to take a player that wasn't very good and show how he could turn him into a super-star.

He would under recruit anywhere. Just look at his last few classes at UK and ask yourself what mid major that would do any good.
Coach G is just easily forgotten. He was here for a cup of coffee and so awful I think most have tried to eliminate his tenure from their memory. He was wedged in between a massive underachiever in Tubby and a very memorable and successful coach in Calipari. Coach G was an idiot...Tubby could have been a very good coach at UK if he had recruited better. He had some very good seasons record wise, but his inability to recruit hardly any upper tier talent was the reason he never won his 2nd title or even got to another Final Four.
This is a fair point.
The NCAA title is usually won with future pros. Not coaching up 3-stars. Tubby was a solid basketball coach and a really nice man. However, if you lose recruits to prep school AT KENTUCKY, you're doing a poor job here. (I like Tubby and hold no ill will against him for his time at UK. Water under the bridge.)

We dont miss pastner and never will. Players had no respect for him and he was a control freak...assistant coaches left just about every year and he even fired his brother-in-law.
Lawson dad was fired and then his sons transfer. His dad is like LaVar Ball but a D- grade. He may go back to coaching high school for a year or two then try to get a college job with the highest bidder. oh yeah, he balked at making $120,000 a year here at Memphis so be prepared to pay up whomever decides to hire him.
When people are vilified the way we were vilified for criticizing the obviously negative direction of Kentucky basketball under Tubby Smith, immediately being called racist and every other hateful name in the book for having the audacity to mention his horrible performance, it takes a lot of schadenfreude before you get back to square zero. Ten years of "I told you so" should be about right though.
And no, BCG does not get a pass on the crappy job he did either. The one thing he does get a pass on though is for being the fall guy after Smith, the guy that took the axe from the Tubby Lovers, so that Cal could come in without all the Smith baggage still clinging to the ship holding us back

I still say he's the best snake oil salesman in the business. He's literraly made millions and millions with very minimal effort.

Hell we lost one to a prep school in North Carolina. Could you imagine UK losing a recruit to a prep school. Guys it happened, for all the youngsters that did not live through that nightmare. Billy G was embarrassment but Tubby's last 3 years were dreadful and awful. The reason Billy G failed so bad was the mess Tubby left behind. I mean the millions he has stolen is almost criminal.
Tubby is the luckiest man to ever coach. Got a team at UK that could win in spite of him. Had a few good teams that kept UK in contention but never got back to the FF but he had folks defending him and tolerating because of his race. An issue he took full advantage of.
He rode that title until the legs fell off and then ran off without meeting with his team when he realized folks had had enough.
All he's done since is ride off the tails of having been at UK for 10 years.
He's made millions for doinf just enough every now and then but he's a total joke now and has been for years.

Pump the breaks there. Tubby left the cupboard bare to be sure, but good ole Billy Clyde failed because of his own personal demons.
We didn't get eviscerated in the media for firing BCG. Those who love this program and have high expectations for this program understood that in the last couple of years of his tenure, Tubby just stopped working on the recruiting trail and programs like UNC, Duke, Kansas, etc. we're leaving us in the dust. Seeing Tubby be an average coach and lousy recruiter at his other schools just proves we were right.
Of course the Dick Vitale's of the world will never apologize for ripping the fanbase.
I was wrong and deleted my post. Harrelson came from Southwestern Illinois. I just remember Ouchita Baptist and Josh connection somehow. That being Gillispie publicly blasting Josh after the exhibition game. The previous game Josh played in being his UK debut, I remember how he wowed us all with his 3-point shot. Then wondered why he barely played in that game after a such an outing but now I know it was just Billy Clyde being Billy Clyde. Wasn't a defense saying Tubby got a good one from there or that school produces talent. Just got a little confused on why I think of Josh every time I see Ouchita Baptist mentioned..

Yes - BCG was infinitely worse than Tubby. At least Tubby stumbled on a diamond in the ruff occasionally - a lot like Crean actually. BCG was the worst evaluator of talent I've ever seen. Literally every guy he recruited or took a commitment from were either woeful or headcases except for Liggins.
