Apathy

ap·a·thy-noun
/ˈapəTHē/ lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.

Are there others like me who are there at that point now? I get all fired up by the 5-0 & 4-1 type starts. plan my Saturdays around the game, then we come out and just stink up the field, aka Alabama and SC games. I keep saying I wont get lured in next season and it happens again, but this year just feels different. I will probably watch the UL game, but I have checked out for this season. Before I get flamed on here, it really wouldn't be a huge dissapointment if UL beats us. Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom before changes are finally made. What are we gonna do again? Change coordinators? You can only do that so many times while still getting the same results. There is one constant throughout these displays of ineptness on the field. I finally have come to the realization that as long as Stoops is our coach, thats the way its gonna be and all we have to look forward to in the future. I think he has gotten fat and lazy, just like Cal with the big contract. I firmly believe the BBN will support football, just like basketball if we put a quality product on the field. Seems like Im rambling here, but just totally frustrated as a fan and to pay out $9 million for these kind of mediocre results year after year is pathetic!

What Would you Say Is The Bedrock Problem With Our Program?

If you had to point at the most fundamental reason our fb program is unable to launch, where would you say “start here” with change?

Do we not appear dedicated to having a successful fb program to outsiders? And if so, what is it? Our crowds are great, good facilities. Our fanbase is highly-passionate, at least until it goes unrequited by the team. What would prevent another, higher-echelon coach from coming here? Just wondering if it’s the entire aura here, the combination of ALL things, or just one simple, seemingly insignificant point of focus?

Coach Coen: Speed up and spread out

Coach was asked about next year. Paraphrasing, We are going to try to find ways to speed up the tempo, spread the field and re-establish UK Big blue wall physicality. I think they know that 55 plays a game is not conducive to winning football. I believe the bowl game will be a test or trial start to see how it looks. They know recruiting a QB with this painfully slow pace and tempo will be difficult. I have some amount of faith that the Coaches will at least try to rectify the offense. Now whether it works or is successful or even given a proper chance is a totally different discussion.

Football Mark Stoops Show News & Notes - Nov. 21

* Nobody's proud of what they showed at SC. Didn't match their prep for the game. Makes you even more frustrating because it's become a bit of a recurring theme this season. Think you're ready, prepare well, don't play well. Ultimately, you can't expect to win a game with a 0-3 turnover margin.

* On Louisville having a long streak of not allowing a score on the first drive and getting ahead of people... That's an important factor on Saturday, Stoops says, as well as the "middle 8." Need a fast start and need to win that "middle 8." Haven't been able to do both of those things. Mizzou was their fastest start, but then lost the "middle 8" badly, he said.

* "You can't beat anybody until you stop beating yourself, and we seem to be doing that over and over." We're hurting ourself, not characteristic of what we've done in recent years. Those handful of plays every week "are killing us."

* Izayah Cummings doing some good things, really playing well down the stretch. Has earned his opportunity.

* Important game for both teams, important for our fan base. We want to go play our best ball in this one. Have believed this game was crucial since the day he walked in the door. Has made it a priority.

* Asked if the Stoops family used to have a Thanksgiving football game like a lot of families do during the holiday, Stoops laughs and says, "No. There was enough of that rough stuff we were doing every other day." Ha.

* On the 3rd and long defensive issues... One came on 2nd and super-long, and one of their best players just turned what should have been 4-5 yards into a huge play, made it 3rd and manageable. Those deals really hurt. Situational awareness has hurt. One was a result of a freshman not knowing the situation. But no excuses at this time of year. You have to know what you're doing out there.

* On the 4th & 10 where they were going to go for it and got a delay of game... Not a mistake, Stoops said. He had changed his mind to go for it and elected to take the 5 yards and punt it away. Didn't like what he was hearing don't he headset and what his gut was telling him. In hindsight, that was the right thing to do as they pinned them at the 1 and got it back at midfield with plenty of time to score.

* Our players always seem to respond and go play hard in this game. Not concerned about them failing to get up for this rivalry game at all. They're just like the fans, disappointed in how things have gone, but they know this is still a big game. It matters.

* We're not new to this rivalry or the intensity of it... but we have to be disciplined.

* A lot of portal discussion/roster issues will be starting to gear up in the next 14 days.

* Expresses frustration when someone asks why they're taking so many deep shots to Barion Brown... Says this is another game where they'll have some opportunities because of the defense UofL plays, and they have to hit some.

* Don't need to say much to Dane Key about his fumble. He knows what he did wrong, and he feels as bad as anyone about it. You just reinforce things like carrying it high and tight, especially when you have guys coming from behind you.

Could we run the Eagles offense and be successful?

They certainly don't run a 'typical' NFL offense, mainly due to Hurts' skillset. Running game looks to me like a lot of RPO concepts and inside zone (not an expert by any means) and Hurts has the option to run a few times, which the defense has to respect. Passing game looks more like an Andy Reid or Mike Shanahan style with PA, bootlegs/moving the pocket, using the TE and RB, more ball-control than big play. But, it works great. Seems like we could marry the McVay passing game with more of an RPO/inside zone running game and maintain our physicality at the LOS, still be attractive for the QBs and skill position players who want to learn a pro system and, oh yeah, win more COLLEGE football games.

I know Coen has said next year we'll spread out and go faster. I don't know that that is the right answer, especially the spread out piece. A QB who is a threat to run puts so much more pressure on a defense that it's obvious that's what we should do. Combine that piece with RPO and an NFL-based controlled passing game and I think we could have a system we can run for many years. 49ers have a similar scheme w/out QB running although he is mobile. Every team can't recruit a Patrick Mahomes but I believe there are many HS QBs with the size and skillset to run this type of offensive scheme.

Corners and Safties

I have never seen any group regress as far over a year as our backfield. Phillips has fallen down 4 times I can remember in one on one coverage. I have zero idea What he was doing on that first SC touchdown??? He looked like he was sprinting up to tackle him but the ball hadn’t been thrown??? Guy runs right past him. Zero play on the second TD as well. FCS guys don’t fall down in coverage or get jooked that bad. Zion has let 3-4 receivers run right past him when he is the deep safety. They Can’t be this unathletic. The scheme has to be confusing them to the point they can’t play. I’m at my witts end because this is our head coaches specialty. ???

I’m thankful

For this board.

For all the mods except Deeeeefeense.

For all the good humor and distraction.

For Calipari accepting spacing the floor and shootin the shot worth the most points.

For NBA2K.

For relative health.

For Diet Coke. (See above)

For good food and good friends and good indoor plumbing because havin to walk outside and shit in hole in a wooden shed when it’s 30 degrees sounds awful.

For all y’all. Well, most all y’all.

I’m not thankful for the ads that keep crashing my browser when I’ve got a 3 paragraph post made and then lose it. Fix that shit. Happy Thanksgiving.

KSR Thanksgiving FB article!

If you got the time and want to...go to KSR and read the article on Thanksgiving. Donnie Ray is the elder statesman of our fb gang. At 87, and even though in excellent physical condition, the old D demon is starting to take its toll and he will no longer be able to do the games. We will sorely miss him being able to attend all the games with us, but will certainly him him in our fb loop. He is the gentleman sitting in front row.
