Updated Model Results after Penn

Early season and things are still very fluid.

We slipped from 6th to 11th following yesterday’s outing.

For some perspective, our current 2.18 score would have been good for sixth overall heading into last year’s tournament.

It also would have been good for sixth overall this same weekend last year. So, early indications are that the field is a little deeper this year at the top.

Arizona is currently lapping the field with a score of 4.11. Like I said, still early, but no one has had a 4 going into the tournament since I’ve been doing this.

FB Recruiting Big weekend....

Visitors this weekend.....

RB Chip Trayanum (Ohio State) - The Buckeyes were not happy when Trayanum went into the portal. Just read what Maurice Clarett wrote about the situation. Someone they probably did not want to lose. He can be a RB1 type for Kentucky if that's the direction they ultimately move in, certainly a good sign he's visiting right away going into the portal.

WR Raymond Cottrell (Texas A&M) - Really like where Kentucky stands with the big-bodied A&M receiver. Keep in mind, getting these guys on campus and around everybody is going to be very important because they are not just looking for talent, they're looking for leadership and the right locker room fits.

WR Donovan McCulley (Indiana) - The former QB turned WR who had a breakout last year while he was in action will still visit UK this weekend. Heard from one person recently the belief is it's either Michigan or Kentucky. I like the idea of McCulley because he could conceivably be a top-3/4 receiving option on next year's team but also has that dual-threat background.

DB Quaysheed Scott (Kentucky commit) - Important visit for Scott, who has been coveted by South Carolina and drawn interest from some others. Folks like Scott, he can be a really nice player. He will be at UK this weekend, which is a good sign.

One additional note about S Cam Dooley from the high school ranks. The Alabama safety is apparently down to Kentucky and Georgia Tech, I wrote yesterday. The sense I got from the conversations I had was that there's talk Dooley might officially visit Georgia Tech this weekend and they believe they could possibly win him over if he goes through with the trip. The person who shared the info with me told me that "geography/distance (from home) is big". Atlanta is only an hour and 15 minutes from Valley, Ala., but Lexington is seven hours away. I feel like Kentucky has done everything it can to make its case and land Dooley. He picked Mizzou the first time around. If he doesn't visit GT, I'll like UK's chances. If he does, it becomes harder.

Why is LeBron trying so hard?

So LeBron is playing some incredible basketball, without a doubt. His Lakers just won the in-season tournament, which is cool, I guess, but my question is why LeBron is so focused on changing the public’s mind about who the greatest of all time is. It’s clear, at this point, he has the longevity part on lock, but he keeps playing, in search of something he’ll likely never find. Doesn’t he have a good friend that can let him know he is trying too hard?

FB Recruiting Cam Dooley

Am told that he is not going to visit Georgia Tech next weekend and the Yellow Jackets are not going to be a landing spot.

Would seem to be good news for Kentucky but this next week is going to be insane so stay tuned.

Kentucky has invested a ton of time recruiting him. Really good size, athleticism in the secondary.

Arkansas, GT, UK, Maryland, Mizzou, Vandy, Wisconsin among Power Five offers.

Stolen Credit Card Question

Got an e-mail tonight thanking me for my $300 order from Pizza Hut in Bakersfield and I am very much not in Bakersfield. I assume since I got the email I have a Pizza Hut account that was hacked and I needed to change the password. However once I did that I realized the card linked to the account expired 4 years ago.

How is that even possible?

Since I got an order confirmation I was able to call the store and cancel the order and shut my card down but I’m baffled how they used my card and had an order confirmation sent to my email if they’re not attached in the Pizza Hut account.

Some Ideas for UK's new WR Coach

While it is my profound hope that this position is already filled, I throw out these names as possibilities: CAVEAT: I don't profess to have any inside information whatsoever, but I looked up various WR coaches inside the top 25 passing teams in 2023, per the NCAA. In no particular order: Austin Appleby - UAB; Michael Spurlock (love this guy's CV) - WKY; Lawrence Dawsey ( a bit old but what a resume) - App State and Jordan Davis - North Texas.

Eye opening retirement savings stat

Just read this today: 8% of Americans have saved $1M or more for retirement. THIRTY SEVEN PERCENT (37%!!) haven't saved a dime. The 37% is up from 30% only 3 years ago.

I'm sure this will quickly devolve into a political discussion, but that's not my intention. Over 1/3 of Americans have no retirement savings. IIRC, close to 2/3 are living paycheck to paycheck. And HH credit card debt is at an all-time high, >$1 trillion. And Social Security system is on a downward spiral (although I believe there are pretty easy and fairly painless fixes to SS). We have a looming retirement crisis and not many voices are being heard about fixing it (among many, many other problems in the US).

I'll Always be grateful to Cal for his success versus my most hated Rival (UNC) **Hope I don't jinx him**

UK coaches versus UNC:

0-2 for Pre-Rupp era coaches
5-6 Coach Rupp
1-5 Hall
0-0 Sutton
0-3 Pitino
4-3 Tubby
0-2 BCG
7-4 Calipari (with the only UK win in the NCAAT versus the Tar Heels)

UNC has beaten UK 3 times in the Elite 8 and I am convinced it cost us at least 2 NCAA titles. 1977 (Givens, Robey, Lee, Phillips junior year), and 2017 (remains the only game I ever felt we were cheated by a corrupt organization). 1995 would have been tough but we were a dominant team most of that season.

C'mon Cal...make it 8-4.
