Time for change!

I've defended Cal a lot! He's a super guy! He's been a great coach! But I believe the toxicity is so high that Mitch has no choice. Once it gets this toxic it's good for no one. I think it would be good for Cal & the program to pay him the $33 million & move on.

This is Kentucky, you've got to win. No one cares about draft picks, creating generational wealth...unless we're winning doing it. We're Kentucky! We want to win!

With that said I'm super disappointed in how Reed played tonight. Dilly was not good but Reed absolutely was awful! But we have to remember he's a freshman playing in his first tournament game. I love that kid & hope he returns but I've heard there's ZERO chance if Cal leaves. But Cal has to go! It's time!

Don't Fall For It Next Season

If (Lord help us) Cal is still Kentucky's coach next season, be prepared for:
-"These guys genuinely like each other."
-"This team has some incredibly likeable personalities."
-"[Player X] is shooting lights-out in practice."
-"[Returning player] looks much improved and will have a PJ Washington sophomore jump."
-"BBN will fall in love with this group."
-"[Player X] is the best rebounder/assists man/steals man I've ever seen in practice."
-"These guys are ready to go for the Champion's Classic."
-"This is the revenge tour."
-"This team is looking even better than I thought they would; they're way ahead of schedule."
-"This could be one of Cal's best teams here."
-"Cal is on a mission and just has that look in his eyes. He'll be coaching with his head on fire."
-[Insert stupid Swaggy Cal quote here.] "We've got old Cal back, hell yeah."

Gotta hope that Cal is gone, but I'm bracing for the worst that he'll still be around somehow. Kentucky basketball can and will let me down by hanging onto his ass.
Anyway, don't fall for any of these tired lines. Remember Dillingham saying that one shot didn't go in because it will in March? Just like that sorry quote, we'll be fed lies all throughout the offseason. Don't think it'll be any damn different, no matter how much they try to prop up next year. We're in for a crap storm again if Cal comes back.

Can Kentucky afford not to fire cal?

UK basketball is the state past time. All his talk about losing this generation of fan means an acceptance of mediocrity and UK basketball as a brand suffers. Future revenue losses would be far greater than any buyout unless excitement is restored quickly. This is what the admin idiots need to realize when hiring the next coach. The guy needs to be a winner. Someone players want to play for someone who puts the name on the front first. A coach with enthusiasm that will connect with fans. We are no better off now than with Bcg. Since our losing season we have 1 tournament win. How can you not fire the man, pay whatever buyout, eat the mistake and hire the right guy. And no Scott drew would be awful. Barney who should already be gone shouldn’t be anywhere near a hire. Drew has zero enthusiasm he a boring stiff. At the end of the day though, considering the next 10-20 years UK continuing on with cal will be a killer for our program.

Can We all Agree that the Calipari Era at UK is over?

He is of course still being paid by the university and he gets to sit in the coaches seat on the bench but, he's done. I think both he and the administration are just running out the clock. Waiting till the buyout is more manageable or a mutually agreed upon number can be negotiated.
Calipari's teams now show no growth during the season and many times actually regress. His in-game adjustments are non-existent. Not sure what the team works on in practice but, it most certainly isn't defense. Lots of mystery illnesses and injuries that keep players out though they appear to be just fine. Weird condescending comments about the fanbase and players.

Yep, I think we're done here.

Edwards Rejected by Rim

For all the folks who think he's played his way back into the first round (which I never agreed with), getting rejected by the rim on national television may just seal his second-round/undrafted fate. I do not understand how a guy who is 6'8 and projected to be a top ten pick out of high school has so little athleticism and leaping ability. He misses dunks with no one near him.

Here is the problem

Cal’s thing is recruiting freshmen who he can nurture and put in the NBA . That worked ok until NIL and the transfer portal .
his love of preparing freshmen for the NBA is who he is.
He is not about recruiting players who will never play in the NBA but are fourth , fifth or sixth year players and can beat talented immature freshmen any day of the week.
thats not his thing . It’s sad but it’s not his thing . That doesn’t turn him on knowing that his kids won’t be playing after UK .
That’s why his goal is not in the best interest of UK or BBN. He has been trying to serve two masters and it hasent worked and never will.

Don’t know why some people are concerned we will lose this great recruiting class coming in. They’re all freshmen. They cannot win what we all want . They will be here one year and gone hopefully to the NBA .
We need a new coach who can recruit well from the portal and plays modern basketball and is capable of reviewing game films to prepare for other teams as well as make adjustment during games .
We need to pay him well but have no buyout if it doesn’t work out .

"What's the worst thing that could happen?"

Made myself watch the media session on Cal's patio after the bracket was announced.

I'm paraphrasing, but he said something like "what are you guys worried about? What's the worst thing that could happen?" ............long pause.............

"Me getting fired? I've been there- I'm not worried about that"

Actually, Cal, we're worried that you'll sh*t the bed in the NCAA tourney, AGAIN.

PITTSBURGH -- Kentucky helped create another college basketball folk hero on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Jack Gohlke, a grad senior guard who played five years at the Division II level prior to joining the Oakland Golden Grizzlies this season, fell one shy of a new NCAA Tournament record with 10 3-pointers and scored a game-high 32 points in a stunning 80-76 upset of the third-seeded Wildcats at PPG Paints Arena.

"I'm always pretty much just locked into the game," Gohlke said of the game of his life. "Obviously, I'm feeling the emotion of it, for sure, but just focused on trying to make the next shot, trying to win for my teammates."

On this night, it seemed like the Wisconsin native could not miss, even though he did come up empty on 10 of his 20 attempts. He joked with teammates that he was upset because he thought he should have made 13 treys.

"I'm always mad if I miss one, even if I was 10 of 11," Gohlke said. "So I'm just always looking for the next play, like Coach Kampe always says, and just living in the moment."

"That's my boy right there. Jimmy (Chitwood). Jimmy Gohlke," said Oakland head coach Greg Kampe, who suggested on Wednesday that one of his players could play the 'Hoosiers' hero role in a memorable upset. (CONT) ....

Next year

I am now officially on the fire Cal train. With that said, what we as fan think really does not matter. If it’s Cal or another coach next year I’m still going to watch every game and support the program. This is how I was at the end of Tubby’s time as coach. I wanted him fired but I still supported the team no matter what. I think there is a really good chance that Rob and Reed both come back. It’s just a hunch but I can’t see them wanting to go out like this. I know everyone is going to say it doesn’t matter who the players are as long as Cal is the coach. I’m not saying I disagree with that but I’m a Kentucky fan and I will always support the team. Sophomore Rob and Reed would be insane to watch. Just my take on things.
