Trivia: Reed Sheppard Very Close To 50/40/90 season (Shooting %); What UK Player Came Closest for entire season?

IIRC since the 3 point shot was implemented college basketball has only had eleven 50/40/90 players (50% FG, 40% from 3, 90% on FT). Numbers probably will go down (some) but right now Reed is at 58.5% FG, 57.8% from 3, and 89.5% on FT.

Since 1987 UK's has one player that was incredibly close to this mark(s); who was it?

If we get Edgecombe in the next few weeks, it changes everything going forward.

It would mark just the second time since 2013 when we beat Duke for an RSCI top 5 recruit. The other guy in that span was BJ Boston.

In that same time, we've lost to Duke for RSCI top 5 guys such as:

Jahlil Okafor
Brandon Ingram
Harry Giles
Jayson Tatum
Marvin Bagley
RJ Barrett
Zion Williamson
Cam Reddish
Vernon Carey
Paolo Banchero
Dereck Lively
Kyle Flipowski

Once again, this is only RSCI top 5 guys who we've lost in head-to-head battles with Duke. In that same span, we only beat them for Boston.

That's a 1/13 conversion rate.

Edgecombe to Kentucky changes things significantly. It's one thing to beat out Tennessee for Justin Edwards or Louisville for DJ Wagner, but it's quite another when you beat Duke for a player they need and desire.

Don't underestimate this one if Edgecombe comes to Lexington. You put him with Quaintance, Fland, Thiero and Sheppard, and you've got another Final Four contender.

If you want Kentucky to be great in football

You need to be giving to the NIL club. It is your No. 1 priority after paying for your Cats Illustrated subscription right here.

The bigger the donor the more helpful but the number of small donors matters, too.

It's not my job to tell you to go give, but everybody is talking about the portal/recruiting and this is what's driving it.

It has not been promoted as well as it has been other places but the collectives are making things happen.

Ole Miss, Missouri, and Auburn are, as one person told me recently, close to buying their way into the playoff. It doesn't have to be any different for Kentucky.

I'm Worried About March...

Just wanted to put that out there. I go to sleep at night, rarely 8 straight hours, and worry if this team has what it takes come March. I mean, I've talked to people, sure.

But if we can't pull it together for a run, I'm afraid I'll continue to worry about things of which I'm not a part of. Things like halftime.

What do you think Cal tells the team? I'm worried about that.
Things like where to eat in Lexington when I visit from out of town and ask the board for recommendations. What if posters are wrong? I worry about that to and later ask myself, why didn't I just google the question? It takes the same amount of time. I don't know. Guess I'm at a crossroads.

Below is 2 ways to contact the NCAA concerning eligibility. Let's give them a dose of BBN!

contact the NCAA Eligibility Center at (877) 262-1492 for eligibility questions.

International high schools and ministry offices can email official academic records to the NCAA Eligibility Center at ec-processing@ncaa.org.
