Would you rather UofL basketball be….

Would you rather….

  • Become nationally relevant again to make the rivalry “better.”

Saw this discussion in another thread and it mirrored one I’ve had with some friends recently.

Which is better, UofL being a laughingstock and sucking big time with no chance of beating us or UofL being at least good enough to make the rivalry more competitive.

I wish they’d never win another game so I’ll cast the first vote that way.

What if the NCAA went to 4/5 regional super-conferences?

That would be really cool I think. Much better than the current get-up. Though I doubt UK makes it out of this STACKED conference. CFB would be really fun though lol.

Oscar (Unknowingly) Involved in some Controversy Tonight

The Pacers gave the game ball to Oscar after the game in honor of his first NBA point (a franchise tradition apparently).

Giannis for the Bucks scored a Bucks Franchise record 64 points tonight in the same game and wanted the game ball for himself.

Giannis freaked out on the court after the game, and an altercation ensued in the locker room hallways.

Pretty wild and random thing for Oscar to be stuck in the middle of (to no fault of his own of course)

Historically speaking, is Kentucky now Point Guard U?

I know at one time in the 90s, it was Georgia Tech, with Kenny Anderson, Travis Best, Stephon Marbury, etc.

Georgetown was "big man U" for a long time, with Ewing, Mourning, Mutombo, Harrington, etc.

Does Kentucky now have the best collection of point guards in NCAA history?

Ralph Beard
Louie Dampier
Kyle Macy
Wayne Turner
Rajon Rondo
John Wall
Eric Bledsoe
Brandon Knight
Marquis Teague
Andrew Harrison
Tyler Ulis
Jamal Murray
Isaiah Briscoe
De'Aaron Fox
Shai Gilgeous Alexander
Tyrese Maxey
Immanuel Quickley
Robert Dillingham
Reed Sheppard
D.J. Wagner

And to think, we finished second for Trae Young and Cade Cunningham. We could have completely cornered the market in terms of elite NBA point guards (Haliburton notwithstanding).

Is there any other program in the nation that offers that much talent at a particular position.

Anyone else miss the old signing day shows during the early days of the Stoops era?

I wish UK Athletics would bring back the style of signing day show they produced during Stoops first seasons here at Kentucky. Those were great. The shows lasted for 4 or even 5 hours and there was tons of analysis on the recruits, lots of video, and interviews with pretty much every member of the coaching staff. It was interesting, as it was the most we got to hear from a lot of the position coaches. Here is one from 2014:

Now we only have a boring 30 minute or one hour press conference from Stoops and maybe the coordinators without any of the analysis, video or other good stuff we used to get. Why did UK go from doing those amazing signing day shows to the crap we have now? IMHO, the old style shows would be even better today with all of the portal players, as there will be more video of actual college level performances to look at and discuss.

If someone in a position of power within UK Athletics reads this, please bring back the 2014 type signing day special coverage! As fans, we love and eat this kind of stuff up. Hell, I used to take signing day off just so I could follow everything. Now there is nothing to follow.

FB Recruiting Another portal OL to watch

Georgia OL Aliou Bah is one of the linemen in the portal we are paying attention to. My working assumption is that UK will probably take a couple of OL and would guess a tackle and a guard but I don't know that's ironed out for sure.

I know that NC State is another one of the schools that is very involved with Bah. They have had an in-home visit with him and at last check I heard there was a strong possibility he could officially visit Raleigh before the early signing period.

Bah was committed to Florida State at one point in high school. I haven't heard about the Seminoles being involved. He was also at IMG for a year. Offensive guard prospect.

He was a backup at Georgia. Rivals.com ranked him a four-star prospect and the No. 208 player in the Rivals250.

Redshirt freshman this year. Limited PT (12 snaps) but was a second line player just outside the regular rotation. UGA played 7-8 OL for most of the year and my understanding is Bah was probably right on the outside of that looking in. Of course, top 8 OL at UGA is an extremely high standard and he was only a RS-Frosh so I could definitely see this as an iOL the staff would be excited about.

I remember corresponding with Bah a lot as a HS recruit. Very, very polite kid, really enjoyed dealing with him. Kind of guy who is courteous and gracious about everything that comes his way. Before UK offered him in HS several of the staff members reached out so it was clear they were going to make him a priority.

He's a Memphis kid and UK was really making the state a priority.

Quite the former UK player battle tonight between De'Aaron and Shai.

Fox's Kings won the battle 128-123

Shai dropped 43 points on 13-27 shooting(1-5 from 3) and 16-18 from the foul line. Added 6 rebounds and 9 assists

Fox dropped 41 points on 14-25 shooting(5-11 from 3) and 8-11 from the foul line. Added 3 rebounds and 7 assists.

Making this even better is that our guys are on winning teams at this point in their season. Thunder are 15-8 and the Kings are 14-7. The Thunder are 3rd in the West and the Kings are 5th.
