Michigan-Gators

Game is going to OT, but in the final minute and 30 seconds of regulation, a Michigan double team tied up the Florida player for a jump ball. The Michigan player who came away with the ball, slammed it down on the floor, in his excitement. It looked like it went 15 feet in the air. Nothing was called. I couldn't help think that if he had Kentucky across his jersey it would have been a technical foul. Maybe I am just paranoid, but stuff like that seems to only happen to us.

Former Cats leads 6 NBA franchises in scoring last night with four more finishing second on their team.

Fox with the Kings
Murray with the Nuggets
Herro with the Heat
Davis with the Lakers
Randle with the Knicks
SGA with the Thunder

Maxey second in scoring for Philly
Bam second in scoring for the Heat
Towns second in scoring for the T'Wolves
PJ Washington second in scoring for the Hornets

How many NBA All-Stars do you guys think we get this year?

Football Tuesday PM update

Have been doing digging throughout the day and the latest:

Cam Dooley - Kentucky
Jalen Farmer - Kentucky
Jamon Dumas-Johnson - Kentucky
DeCarlos Nicholson - Kentucky (but this is an assumption)
Rico Scott - Alabama

When we posted that UK was not going to get Farmer recently, that was where things stood. Geoff's information today appears to be correct, UK decided to go in and be aggressive.

All 5 of UKs Freshman are now projected NBA draft 1st rounders

Before you guys all go “it will be the greatest day in Kentucky Basketball history” just remember that talent wins games, not necessarily experience, just ask North Carolina.

Also we have 4 other players that have experience in Mitchell, Reeves, Thiero, Ugonna.

We also have a 7 footer from Croatia waiting to be cleared by the DA NCAA; so thats potentially 5 other guys besides the rock star freshman that UK has to help us win a title in 2024.

This team is very similar to the 1978 and 1996 teams who “had to win it all”.

This team has no choice but to win it all, they absolutely have to.

FB Recruiting Tuesday Morning Notes

LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson - The chatter that I have heard sounds good for Kentucky right now. Nobody has told me it is done for UK, but there is plenty of lingering uncertainty on the Auburn side and things have been very quiet on this side. UK has opportunity and would surely love to make a splash move on that side. You can easily see why JDJ would be coveted by Kentucky. Plug and play right next to D'Eryk Jackson and behind Deone Walker, big-time thumper and a Butkus Finalist who will be a high IQ player and make those around him better? The Auburn trip had to be quick and so here is what we have: Initially heard some optimism about Kentucky's position, and now the word from Auburn is they are not sure where he is going and there's a sense that UK may be tough to beat. Would obviously be a headline grab that would make national waves.

TE Willie Rodriguez - The Covington Catholic tight end remains committed to Kentucky but Tennessee has mounted a big late push. I have never had someone tell me that they expect Rodriguez to flip to Tennessee. There has been a lot of speculation but I have always heard pushback on that. Rodriguez is one of Kentucky's top commitments and one of the state's top players. For a number of reasons he is important to keep. Rodriguez would be the only commitment to watch for a possible flip tomorrow, as I understand it. Can only speak to expectations and this morning there is the expectation that he sticks with UK. However, it is indeed a situation that folks will be monitoring.

S Cam Dooley - The former Mizzou commit has a longstanding relationship with Kentucky's coaches. There was the attempt by Georgia Tech to make a play but according to Russell Johnson here on Rivals.com that visit never happened, and it seemed to be a good sign for the Wildcats. Dooley is a rangy, athletic safety and they could use another one of those in the program. I put a FutureCast back in early November for him and haven't wavered. There has not been a lot of chatter on this and Dooley has gone quiet but based on where UK stood and the lack of noise elsewhere, the expectation is still that UK is in good shape.

DB DeCarlos Nicholson - The Mississippi State DB transfer would have a year of eligibility remaining and would provide length at corner that Kentucky did not have this year. With Andru Phillips going off to the NFL it would make sense to add an older player so you aren't necessarily relying on guys who don't have much experience other than Hairston. He visited Kentucky and we were out in front mentioning him as someone to know about so that has not changed. You probably haven't seen much else linking Nicholson to other schools and I wouldn't ignore that.

Football ***** UK Football Practice Notebook - Dec. 19 *****

Hello HOB… Back over at the JCFTC for today’s practice report. In addition to DC Brad White and some select players from that side of the ball, we are expecting to have new WRs coach Daikiel Shorts joining us for a Q&A after UK officially announced his hiring today. The festivities should begin around 1:45 ET (or so). Stay tuned…

BRAD WHITE Q&A:

* Clemson offense has good understanding of what they’re trying to do with talented RBs, guys who can get downhill and also hurt you in the short passing game. They like to spread you out horizontally, but they can pick their spots to hit you vertically. But you have to be ready to defend sideline to sideline. Ball gets out fast. A lot of screens.

* Clemson QB doesn’t really look to run a lot, but he‘s sneaky in his ability to pick his spots, extend plays, convert 3rd downs. Gotta get off the field on 3rd down.

* Tempo isn’t breakneck like a Tennessee, for example, but they are consistently above what you typically see. Get to the line, efficient, and get moving with 20+ seconds on the play clock. Get a lot of plays off. Gotta handle that. Need to give them some multiple looks to slow them down a bit.

* On scouting with opt-outs and different personnel… Everyone has to do that these days, but their offense is mostly intact from what they’re expecting. TE is maybe as good as anyone they've faced outside of UGA’s Bowers. That dimension is tough, especially in the red zone.

* On Dunn getting increased reps at CB… One of those guys who has just made gradual improvement all season long, what you like to see from young players. Proud of him. Hasn't been easy for him. Did some really nice things in UofL game.

* On Wallace entering NFL Draft… Each guy has their own decision to make. We’ll support that decision. Thinks he’ll make a good showing for himself. (Note: Ty Bryant later added that Wallace plans to play in this bowl game. I don't know if we saw official word from him on that yet.)

* On practice since it was announced they’d be playing a big-name opponent like Clemson… You know you have to show up and play a strong game, or you’ll get embarrassed. You have to practice and prepare that way. They have. Hopefully, it translates to the game.

* Winning is important. White says last year was the first since he got here that they didn’t carry a trophy away at the end of the bowl game. It’s a bad feeling that you have to take into the next season. You don’t want to feel that way.

UK WRs COACH DAIKIEL SHORTS:

* Mutual connections thru Coach Coen helped lead to him coming here. Everybody he knows in the profession has talked well about the program and coach Stoops.

* On first impressions of WR room… Pretty darn impressed. Liked the feeling he got from one one-on-one meetings with the guys. Talented group he‘s excited to work with and help develop. “Ready to get my hands on them. Excited.”

* On Stoops saying he wanted a young guy who could get out there and show these guys how to run routes… Shorts laughs and says he may very well have to dust off his cleats.

Lately it has become fashionable for some posters here to abuse their anonymity and try to gain a little internet fame by posting HOB info to Twitter. This won't work, always ends in embarrassment, is a setback to what you want to eventually get into. Asking you to stop, nicely, or I will just need to post a list of the timestamps pretty much proving it. This is a livelihood for people and our work here is only possible because of the revenue stream that are subscriptions. Giving that away for free may not be a big deal to you, but it's really uncool and does affect others.
