Russia - Ukraine WAR Warning: Political Discussions

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev posted on social media Saturday that "we don't especially need diplomatic relations... It's time to padlock the embassies and continue contacts looking at each other through binoculars and gun sights," according to Reuters.

"The sanctions are being imposed for one simple reason -- political impotence arising from their [the West's] inability to change Russia's course," Medvedev reportedly wrote on his VK network page, apparently shrugging off the economic measures that have been imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Medvedev also said the sanctions give the Kremlin a good reason to pull out of dialogue on nuclear stability and that Russia's suspension from the Council of Europe human rights watchdog gives it an opportunity to restore the death penalty for criminals, Reuters reports.

Not surprising. Had to do it for internal consumption. Prepping the ground so to speak for the possible economic pain should this linger on.

That's his shtick.

That's not what he's doing, unlike Edstein or some of the other more dimwitted leftists whose clear and unambiguous goal is to bait angry political debate in off topic threads.

You need to take it to the political thread; stop baiting.

Some politics is inevitable, as this is a geopolitical, but we should try to keep it on topic, not derail into tangential domestic politics, for the good of the thread. If the rona thread could do it ans survive, this one should too.

If you think the Ukraine situation with Russia is comparable to like Sweden there's no point discussing further. You think NATO would just let two members of the EU get potentially swallowed up by Russia? Lol. No chance.

And TBH it's hard being rational here given you were the guy who last year admitted to getting off to cake fart vids. But I don't want to get too far off topic.
Hard to be on topic when you're off your rocker on me & whatever cake fart vids are.

And I'll still get back to you on my timing choice.

I've read estimates of a 100 year supply and people calling the United States the Saudi Arabia of nat gas.
Yep. For the next few decades, we need to lean into nat gas and take advantage of our own natural resources...not to mention it's by far the cleanest burning of the fossil fuels. Supplement with renewables like wind and solar and most importantly, continue to change the narrative on nuclear power. Nukes are the safest and cleanest source of energy ever discovered and would solve the world's energy problems if we let it.

On top of not cutting off SWIFT, climate activists somehow think that mining and refining in Russia is environmentally disconnected from us in this hemisphere. Russia is not held hostage to climate activists. So, we turn down the spigot here to have it done abroad in a less environmentally friendly way. 🤦‍♂️
👍

"European Union officials said there was growing momentum behind the bloc agreeing to cut Russia out of a crucial global payments system, marking a shift in sentiment after two rounds of Western sanctions on Moscow have shown little effect in persuading President Vladimir Putin from ratcheting down his invasion of Ukraine.

Several capitals, including Berlin and Rome, have resisted the option of disconnecting Russian banks from Swift, a global system that connects banks to facilitate cross-border payments. Critics have worried it could have unintended consequences, including complicating energy payments to Russia and leaving European banks exposed to money owed to them by Russian financial firms. There have also been concerns it could encourage closer financial ties between Russia and China.

President Biden hasn’t included Swift in sanctions announced by Washington this week, but has said it was still an option on the table. The issue though is also getting renewed attention in the U.S. Senior Biden administration officials are weighing the implications of cutting Russia off from Swift, according to a U.S. official."

Germany & Italy onboard is a huge deal given their (stupid) dependence on Russian oil.

This is the so called “nuclear option“ in economic sanctions.

Nah it was definitely you. Last summer on here on some random weekend night. I could try and dig up the topic but you probably deleted it since then.

You were going on about how cake farting vids get you going like no other. You had this whole rap about when you were 8 years old you were at some family lunch after church and there was this younger aunt you were attracted to but didn't realize it at the time. So you had one of those old whoopie cushions and got your aunt to mistakenly sit on it and it made this long, drawn out fartie noise. You said, and I quote, "it was like a lightning bolt going through my pee pee" and that eventually led to your obsession with cake farting porn. You were even posting links to your favorite vids like Bertha's Birthday Biscuits and Why Is The Frosting So Runny? are the two I distinctly remember. Don't deny it now.

Politics have bled in to all aspects of life. Everything. And it’s not changing unfortunately

Whacko: If we don’t stop carbon emissions right now, the world will end in 10 years.

Wisdom: Really? Well, if you believe that, let’s move to nuclear and natural gas right now.

Whacko: Are you kidding? We can’t trust nuclear and fracking is bad!!

Wisdom: Is the world ending in 10 years?

Whacko: We must move to electric cars!

Wisdom: Without discussing the environmental impact of electric cars, where does the energy come from for these cars?

Whacko: Solar and wind, you racist!

Wisdom: How long will it take us to develop the technology to be able to accommodate our energy needs through solar and wind?

Whacko: We can’t do that now?

Let's pray the so-called nuclear option isn't just one of many dominoes to the actually-called nuclear option.

My guess is that you are describing a wet dream you once had. Maybe posters here were in that dream?

We had a POTUS who wanted this. He was hounded out of office. The failure of his opposition and of progressives throughout the West to pursue energy independence in the name of the environment is a direct cause of Russia’s actions.

There is no separating politics from this particular situation. The only question will be whether the radical left now understands.

Nukes are extremely safe until they aren't. Human error and climate is an ongoing threat. Battery technology is advancing so fast to already become a player in more applications that just EV's. Enphase, Solar Edge and STEM are examples of companies addressing energy storage issues for commercial use.

Problem is there's alot of non reliable news coming out. Saw a number a minute ago that the Russians have lost 3500 lives.

There's just no way that's possible. The US didn't lose that many lives in 20 years in Afghanistan, Russia did in 3 days? Lol they must be running nude straight into gunfire.

Finland’s ambassador to the U.S. boasted about his country’s strong military and said he didn’t see an "immediate threat" after a Russian official suggested military action if the Nordic nation were to join NATO.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Finland and Sweden would "face some military and political consequences" if they joined.

"We are not in a position that we will get scared because of one statement," Ambassador Mikko Hautala told Fox News. "We have one of the best armies in Europe."

Propaganda. Every country has its own wing.

After what that country went through in WWI, anyone who thinks that country or culture is cowardly needs a brain transplant.

Yes - nice comment there !
Yeah, he'll fire nukes before taking his own life. This is nuts.

OR - Putin knows that the world economic landscape is about to be reset anyway -

How does the widely publicized “great reset”! of the worlds economies fit into the current context of conflict in the Ukraine?

Putin certainly has this on his radar -

Again - not my strongest topic BUT wouldn’t removal of Russia fm Swift also cause blowback economic harm to others besides Russia?

Would that move possibly start a wider economic chain reaction of nations unable to pay debts / banks not able to function as they currently do?

And if so - then it would start to look like the military conflict served the purpose of transitioning the world — into the great reset and dissolution of the old economic order

Is that even remotely possible?

Wish i understood Swift better - that’ll be my homework for this evening!
