You don't teach shit.
I teach “liberal math” according to you guys.
You don't teach shit.
Tell that to every kid who’s ever been born into a dirt-poor household. But let me guess - they have exactly the same opportunities as “everyone else” in 2019.
I know many who were and have bettered themselves, even me. Had nothing growing up and was dirt poor. Lived in a shed built for grain storage without electricity my last three years of high school in Vertrees Kentucky then, joined the Army and made a life for myself. Not rich but, between me and my wife we make over $100,000.00 a year. Mother and step father needed my help in her last years. Both living on about $800.00 dollars a month SS and that was it. From dirt poor to middle middle class and others have done better with nothing as a start. Yes everyone has the same opportunities, they just have to sacrifice by working hard for it.
Choice is the only reason.Good for you. Seriously. That last sentence is something to ponder though. Sacrifices can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Many who are poor literally cannot afford to make them.

That's not an argument.
If only those kids told themselves that they have the same opportunity as everyone else
Hilarious. I was in this thread before Trump got elected saying that being poor was a choice and I got lambasted by every right winger in here. Now it’s the opposite. You guys are priceless.
Rich no, but better than what they were brought up in yes. Choices and which ones we make decides for us which is why an early education built on reality instead of how bad whitey, cops, or boogie men are is the key. Telling them "YOU" are the one that is responsible and not giving them an excuse to fail is the most important lesson imo.In a theoretical sense, sure. But people who don’t have to stress about food and shelter have ever-increasing leverage when it comes to those opportunities. We’re obviously way past talking about race at this point. If you think Billy from Shitsburg, WV has the same opportunities as Sebastian from Huntington Beach, CA, you’re lying to yourself.
The rags-to-riches stories are great, but pretending that’s simply a “choice” for poor people is disingenuous. Just my opinion.
There are millions of people living paycheck to paycheck. One thing goes wrong and you’re back to square one. “Square one,” of course, varies wildly from family to family, person to person.
Same opportunity is misleading because as I said earlier noone is the same.
But ability to make one's life better, at least so as to escape generational poverty? Certainly, that is there without question for Billy.
If he is in the situation where has to worry about food and shelter and going back to square one, then it is entirely on him.
This specific thread goes back to April of 2015 if you’d like to provide specifics.
Heh.If your to stupid to read an article you can google the BEA official data tables. ..
I doubt you remember that correctly because, republicans believe in opportunity and that everyone has it and that it is your choice what to do with it.Hilarious. I was in this thread before Trump got elected saying that being poor was a choice and I got lambasted by every right winger in here. Now it’s the opposite. You guys are priceless.
Terrible take, but not uncommon. Especially on this thread.
Are you familiar with the “school-to-prison” pipeline for young, poor black males? Especially in cities like Baltimore, Detroit, St. Louis, etc. You know, basically what the “WAR ON DRUGS” was, and continues to be.
Or do you seriously believe that inner-city black people are actually choosing to live in generational poverty? That teachers are in on the ploy? That poor black people live every minute of every day thinking that the government has them in their back pocket?
You acting like 50-150 years is a “long time” tells me all I need to know. You want to plug your ears and turn the other way. “Move on” is the battle cry for white people who are uncomfortable talking about race in America. You’re one of them.
Oh and LOL @ the classic “I taught in an inner city school” bullshit. I assume you don’t teach there anymore. What caused you to leave?
I teach inner city kids as well. I don’t hear all that shit you’re talking about. I do have some coworkers who think it’s their job to “save” these kids though, and it sickens me. Hate those cornballs.

People are lazy. Black people, white people, skin color doesn't make a dam difference IMO.
But I support Trump so that makes me racist so what do I know.
I’ve got 2 kids in public and never once have I heard either of them coming home talking about how political their teachers are. They have enough of a challenge trying to do algebra.
Hmm... turns out "The Wire" was a documentary
Mike Obama is a handsome man.
I distinctly remember this because I regretted not agreeing with you.I specifically said that if you lived in a location where there were no jobs, but jobs were available in other locations, it meant that the person was choosing to remain unemployed and poor by staying in said location. That was met with hard pushback from the resident assclowns.
If you teach inner city kids, then YOU are part of the problem, a GD dope head is teaching the young, and talks like a GD 14 year old. No wonder those poor kids are f**ked up in the head.Terrible take, but not uncommon. Especially on this thread.

No wonder inner city kids get no real education and taught common sense things, they gotta a dope head that talks like a 14 year old poisoning their delicate brains.Terrible take, but not uncommon. Especially on this thread.

Just when I thought you could not get any more stupid, you prove me wrongHey, don’t get too down on yourself. Not all Trump voters are racist.
The ones who argue about flying a Confederate flag outside their homes, and also rock the bumper sticker/vanity plate? They’re racist.
Blue Lives Matter? Racist as hell.
All Lives Matter? Possibly racist. Around 50% - 65%.
“Personal responsibility” Trump voters? Similar racism chances as the All Lives Matter crew.
Hate LeBron James because he doesn’t have the same political views as you, the Trump voter? Racist.
Respect Nick Bosa for exercising ARE FURST AMEMMENT RIHJTS? Racist as hell.
Think Candace Owens is anything more than a 6? Probably racist, definitely unable to pull women with any frequency.
Trump bumper sticker on a 1998 Toyota Camry? Racist.
Wear the weird fishing shirts with the flap on the back? 85% chance you voted for Trump, 70% chance you’re a racist.
“Women For Trump” bumper sticker? Probably racist by proxy, follows orders from her racist husband who tells her how to think and vote. Also a 62% chance they said some racist shit while getting drunk with their sorority sisters at some random college in a podunk southern town. 30% chance it was caught on video. 100% for all of the above if they went to Ole Miss.
Attend a MAGA rally? Probably racist. Possibly racist as hell.
Buy bootleg Trump gear from the black guy at a MAGA rally and then post about how he “gets it” and “works hard?” Oh yeah, bro. You’re definitely racist.
Let me know if you need any further clarification. Hold your chin high, my bro! I’m sure you don’t fit any of these descriptions.
Things are about to get very interesting

Love this. Just seeing it illustrates the perfect analogy. Trump is the Road Runner and the Dems are Wiley Coyote.
It was a conversation about lack of jobs in the rust belt and Appalachia. The talking points were that Trump would return both regions to how they were before automation became a thing and coal was a major energy source. I countered that there were myriad opportunities in multiple cities around the country, so anyone waiting around in a place with no jobs was choosing to be unemployed. That wasn’t well received at all here. Lots of “not everyone can just up and move, people shouldn’t be forced to move for work,” etc.
I’ll give Trump credit where it’s due about how the job market has improved, but it’s cyclical. At some point unemployment will start creeping back up again, and people will have to make a choice about being poor or bettering their situation.
Why is it the government's job to keep those business there? I thought private industry was the answer to everything? It’s not cyclical when our elected Govt willingly ships manufacturing jobs overseas.
There is no up cycle in that, it’s only a slow descent. That was the point is “assclowns” were making, and apparently you still don’t get it. Have you ever lived in a small town that had a plant leave?
