Isn't he the scapegoat who was butthurt because Nixon didn't pardon him? I think if there's one thing we've learned over the years it is that disgraced individuals from administrations and/or people from disgraced administrations do a lot of talking after the fact and that talking usually coincides with books, movies, documentaries...
The family has questioned the accuracy of the quote and contested the idea that the old man was some kind of racist.
Maybe he and the Nixon admin were all flaming racists, maybe not...either way, that shit is 50 years gone...not much we can do about it now
As for the drug war, seems to be damned if you do anything...crack down hard on drugs within the border and you're a racist. Crackdown on the border and key places on the other side where a lot of drug flow originates from...you're a racist and imperialist hell bent on colonizing the countries that have brown people. Crackdown on white folks and the hippie drug counter culture movement you're not cool man...you're anti-alternate state of being, anti-fun, anti-enlightenment via the astral plane, anti-science, anti-medicine...
Drug War was a bust for sure, but that doesn't mean it's intent was purely racist. It just means that the government does what the government tends to do and mucked something up, which is why it's so head-scratching that some want to make it bigger and give it more control.
"Bigger Government"...oh really, you mean the thing that you claim to be racist? You want that bigger?
The thing that can barely take care of a few million veterans, you want it to take over healthcare for all?
