This post is so unbelievably ignorant I don't even know where to start.

The whole "my refund shrank so my taxes went up" really put the ignorance of the American taxpayer on display.

The above just compounds on that. You know why Amazon showed negative $129 million of current US taxes? Either because they had negative taxable income in the US, or generated enough in Federal refundable tax credit - i.e. they are spending money in areas the US Government has deemed worthy of credits, such as research and development, etc. - to drive their liability for the year negative.

COMPANIES WITH TAXABLE INCOME PAY TAXES.

But Amazon earned $11 billion!!!!

OF BOOK INCOME NOT TAXABLE INCOME

Without looking at the financials, they could have made $11 billion of capital expenditures on equipment during the year. They'd depreciate that over 5 or so years for book, and write it off as an expense in this year. That's an $8.8 billion dollar difference in book and tax income because Amazon infused $11 billion into the equipment maker economy.

That's a made up example, but I'm sure Amazon had a huge depreciation M1 as will most companies adding equipment. But guess what? You pay for that. If they have a favorable adjustment this year, they're paying it back next year.

A good amount of your typical book to tax adjustments are timing differences that net to zero over the long run.

Sorry for my rant, but jesus christ people are so goddam ignorant when it comes to taxes.

If Amazon has $1 of US taxable income, they're paying 21 cents of tax in cash or credits.

This is not the only subject he's ignorant. Let him lecture on about his vast knowledge of science.

It is an emergency though, it has been for years. The sad thing is everyone knows it too.

My Con Law professor defined “the law” for us as “whatever five Justices say it is”. So likewise, an emergency is whatever the POTUS says it is.

It boggles my mind how anyone can be ok with giving one man that much power. I guess you support it right now because one of your own wields the power. But what happens if someone like Elizabeth Warren or your beloved AOC squeeze their way into the White House and declare student loans an emergency, and wipe out one trillion dollars worth of debt with the stroke of a pen?

Yeah, I'm totally sure dems wouldn't have done that anyway. Get real. Hell pretty much every president since the 70s has enacted national emergencies. Theres 31 going on right now and barely any of them are Trumps. Obama declared 15 or so. Its not anything new.

I'm not exactly happy that my home state of VA is allowing Amazon to come in while likely barely paying a cent in taxes to help offset the negatives that come with their addition to the area. I have several friends that work around there and many are trying their hardest to get out because it's likely going to drive the cost of property thru the roof. Which is great if you are selling it and can find someone to buy it, not so much if you don't own property or want to keep it and are seeing your property tax bill skyrocket.

They should have to pay their fair amount of taxes like I do and like what other businesses do, not be able to get a refund or pay nothing just because of who they are. Amazon having gotten a $120 something million refund this year is a travesty of tax law.

How so? Tax laws are complicated and Amazon could have literally paid in billions of dollars in taxes and over paid which resulted in the refund. Trust me I'm no fan of billionaires but I do know a little about how the tax code works.

Yes, emergency powers have existed since before I was born. And they’ve been used. But never on such a polarizing issue.

If you don’t see the shit storm this is going to cause in the future then you deserve every bit of the f**king that the Dems are going to give you when they eventually regain power.

God, both parties sicken me.

We don’t want proof that the climate is changing, we want proof that man is causing it and to what degree.

Bro. Are you seriously this dense? Before the Industrial Revolution the carbon cycle had changes that were the result of volcano eruptions and shit. The burning of fossil fuels caused carbon levels to shoot through the roof, and they're still climbing. Did you read the climate report last year? Or hell, did you even do what I did and just peep the highlights?

Man is causing extreme climate change because of our dependence on burning fossil fuels for energy. To what degree? Look at the damn graphs of atmospheric carbon levels before and after the Industrial Revolution.

Calling man-made climate change "fake news" is some hillbilly shit. You clearly have access to the internet. Look it up and turn off the damn TV. This whole "new green deal" seems like a pain in the ass, but it's drastic because the looming, dire consequences of permanent climate change will destroy any sense of relative economic stability in our nation and elsewhere.

Most of this story is false.

And while I don’t oppose a wall, the GOP are fools if they don’t at least try to stop trump from building a wall without congressional approval.

It’s opening up Pandora’s box and Trump either doesn’t know it or doesn’t care. Paving the road for President Bernie or President Pocahontas to shut down the coal mines and give everyone free healthcare, in the name of a national emergency.
He is trying at least to continue to keep his promises no matter how misguided it may seem. Others just totally cave in and take it up the rear.

Don't know what tax breaks NY was going to give them, but federally, they actually got something like a $127 million refund this year according to the NY Times article I read this morning.
May have overpaid tax estimates, large capX for expansion, etc. Amount of refund can be misleading. Need copy of entire financial picture in order to make informed opinion.

What if pigs fly? This is an emergency, it has been for years and the parties simply used it as a negotiating chip, now there 20 million illegal aliens in the country, billions in welfare to those, scores of people dying from opioids and the left is telling you it’s a manufactured crisis.

Hell, of all the things Presidents have called emergencies for, this along with 9/11 may be the only real ones.
Take a neutral look at what’s happening at our border. The misery our useless politicians have allowed to happen.

Was it opinion? So you're saying Brooks, Ingraham, Hannity, Bretibart, Big League Politics, etc. were forming an opinion and none of that shit is in there. Hmmm, okay that sounds reasonable.

Dude... its a 7 month FUNDING BILL.. they srent ammending the fricken constitution.

The point is.. in the grand scheme of things.. its a short term bill and it doesnt change any laws. So your hysteria is unwarranted.

So since it’s a polarizing issue it’s ok if it’s just ignored?
My god, the southern border has been a disaster for decades, and our politicians punted every god damn time. Now there’s f*cking sanctuary cities and states because those areas rely on cheap labor.

Have you seen the Democratic Party lately? They’re insane, they convinced a large portion of the country that the President was a traitor on political dirt. They’re going to **** us whether Trump did this or not.

Why is it that low skilled, irresponsible deadbeats with dead-end jobs are always the one's bitching about good jobs opening up for ambitious people who worked hard to learn marketable skills and want an opportunity to start/further their career?

They even bitch about the price of real estate and property taxes in prime job areas when they aren't even in a position to move out of a roommate apartment situation.

It's always the system to blame, not their shitty life choices. Therefore, SOCIALISM!

Bahaha... putting aside your ignorance on taxes.. lets not pretend like your jock strap washing community college position affords you the opportunity to purchase a house in northern virginia with or withour amazon.

It is fake news, you’re just to programmed to notice jack shit hasn’t changed in your world.
The weather isn’t more extreme, we just pay attention now, more people are affected.
Do you know why arctic ice levels only go back to the late 70’s? Because people were truly afraid an ice age was coming. So in my lifetime we’ve gone from worrying about an ice age to the end of the world due to global warming.

Well stated. These are my thoughts too. Its tiring the amount of hysterical BS that comes along with every single thing Trump does.

Trump could cure cancer and I think there are people who would find a way to bitch about it.

I knew you'd come knocking.

I also knew you would provide *nothing* to refute what 97% of scientists worldwide have agreed upon.

So tell me, wise man...how exactly is the extreme increase of atmospheric carbon since the Industrial Revolution NOT caused

I know that you and I vehemently disagree about this topic. We won't get anywhere with a back and forth. With that said, I must ask...

What's your order at Starnes? I get one pork sandwich hot, one beef sandwich hot. I'll even go for the bologna hot sometimes if I'm feeling nostalgic. Plain chips get converted into "BBQ chips" when I drizzle them with the sauce. Sun Drop if I'm eating in, water at the house if I'm taking out. Then I drink Buds until I pass out.

I grew up in Paducah but it bores me to tears whenever I visit. With that said, Starnes is completely unique and always worth the trip. The prices at Dairyette are still stuck in the 70's too, which is amazing. Still ordering the double burger with a side of tots and the nasty cheese sauce. I used to eat like a savage back in my KY days. Shout out to Taco John's too.

Are there any vegetarian-friendly (local) restaurants in the area? I'll need a break from the meat next time, and I'd like to support small businesses.
