There are private people whose motives cannot be probed. Even in this day and age. If the guy didn't discuss it anywhere you can probe forever but it will stay hidden. If you propose an explanation as definitive without evidence, you'd be crucified. He legally had the gun. He knew where Trump would be. He flew a drone to scope out the site. He didn't whine or boast of his plans. He hadn't threatened anyone. He just did it. My guess is that he saw himself as a modern hunter. There's a book from the 30s about an aristocratic hunter with a grudge who stalked Hitler. (You might read the target as Stalin, but it would be a stretch.) If you get high powered rifles in your breakfast cereal, you're going to get more people shooting high powered rifles. But you can see with the naked eye how much evidence I have for that.
