Pitino Being Fired?

All hyperbole aside, I really am shocked that Louisville is fine with the image they're accepting. I don't think I've ever seen something of this nature. Growing up in Memphis I always thought they were renegade, and I have to say, they wouldn't deal with this. I played ball there and graduated from there, I know the people. It's just really incredible when you consider Louisville is in a rare category of schools that don't demand ethical standards. Cheating is one thing, playing is grey areas is one thing, but publicly embarrassing an entire university, nationally, is something they dont care about. If you have w degree from UL, I'd be livid. It makes the entire institution look horrible.

I get that louisville has been more successful in sports under Jurich but they are selling their soul and how do they not understand that one day, the devil comes to collect. You're in the ACC and out of the basement. Just get rid of the tactics and clean up. Move on to better days. What is up with that institution? You've got fraud problems from the top down, a basketball coach that is about to have multiple final fours and a title vacated, first in history. Sex scandals, abortions, coverups, a football coach with one of the worst reps in pro or college sports, and the list goes on.

Hard to believe people can be dumb enough to not realize this is a house of cards that will absolutely crumble down.

All I can think is they undersrand their place and will do anything to appear relevant and out of the state program shaddow.

I'm no fan of Barnhart, but not in a million years would 1/10 of the crap thats gone on at Louisville be allowed or tolerated here. At any other school besides Baylor probably. And I'm not speaking of incidences, I'm talking standards. Unc wouldn't even tolerate it.

Whatever Louisville, it's your fate. If you want to erase everything because you failed to realize there's always a price, enjoy watching it fall.

I'd say act like you've been there beforex but I'm thinking that's actually the problem.

Should have no bearing on the banners. If they wanted to make that deal with the NCAA, they would have done it earlier as opposed to throwing the proverbial middle fingers at them the entire time. Plus going so public with the "we are fighting this" thing the entire time probably eliminates the Pitino-for-banners option as well.
Agreed. Firing him does not make the games any more valid. They were playing with ineligible players. Case closed. UL will try to save face when the banner's gone announcement is made and fire Pitino, but only if they already have a deal with someone else. Would they be goofy enough to Lil Ricky? That would look ridiculous even for them...but they did hire Petrino, so who knows?

Ever since Bruce Jenner came out as a trans and then within two days the world turned from grocery store tabloid shocked to demanding separate bathrooms to giving him the Woman of the Year in SI....I AM NOT SHOCKED AT ANY BANDWAGON THE PUBLIC JUMPS ON OR GLAZES OVER, BURIES, FOLLOWS LIKE SHEEP... If we find out later that Pitino slept with the girls there would be people saying that he only did what any grown man would do or he was wrongly coerced and is really a hero for lifting the girl's self esteem...

Living in Louisville, honestly their actions don't surprise me at all.

Of all the people I know, exactly TWO are outraged. One actually wants the entire athletic department gutted and the other only thinks the Crypt Keeper should be fired.

The are the example of people living in a bubble

My experience has been the Louisville fans who are true Louisville fans and don't pull against Kentucky want Pitino gone. The ones who live to watch UK fans suffer want to keep him. They think he's on the verge of an historic run.

Not going to happen imo- ul has been crooked since '01 when they hired him and then fostered more of the "win at all cost" when they hired petrino.

My UofL friends just try to avoid the subject.

If I ask them their opinion on the athletics scandal or even the corruption with the foundation, they just try to change the subject.

These are like "church going" "conservative" people.

Its amazing how UofL fans lose their minds over sports.

Years of "little brother syndrome" abuse has really had a psychological affect on them.

I'm a church-going conservative if that's a label you're satisfied with. What's your point?

Here's this, FWIW. Saw a long-time acquaintance who's in RP's inner circle.in a restaurant the other day. When the guy with me asked what was going to happen with Rick, he shook his head and said it doesn't look good. When asked if he was gone, he shook his head again and repeated not good.

LOL. Fascinating story.

I think his point is that these people have supposed "morals" based on religious, conservative, etc. stuff. Then, when the team they support (UofL) gets involved in dirty scandals, they just ignore it, like hypocrites, since their conservative, strict, personal beliefs obviously don't apply when it comes to the sports team they support. I think that's what he meant.

He must feel church going conservative people are really evil, I guess. I'm one of those types too, guess I had better be more careful of my horrible behavior and attitude.

I don't think that's what he meant, but who knows. Either way, you sound like a sensitive snowflake. You and all the other sensitive people that get offended at the slightest thing are what's wrong with this PC world.

Thoughts on Pitino.

From the scout board:

LordChewie said... Bigger Mistake?
Hiring Andre McGee or hiring Chuck Smrt? Obviously if we don't hire McGee, we don't need to hire Smrt. However, could we have been advised any worse than by Smrt?

Reply from mdreyer:
How would smrt know they were going to go moral for their punishment? He expected them to do whst they have done in the past. So Mcgee by a large margin

My "conservative church going" UL friends are all disgusted.
I guess they missed the bulletin that hypocrisy was in fashion.

Oh kinda like leftists who preach socialism and open borders and global warming yet are millionaires living in gated communities and fly in private jets. Kind of their version of "Do as I say, not as I do).

(For the record - I'm not even religious, but just like both sides consistent...they're all goofs)

Not sure who said anything about "sides", but yes, I agree, most people are hypocritical, religious or not.

I read the "church going" "conservative" people as the blind followers. People who follow and stand behind something no matter the hypocrisy. I am not taking a shot at any specific church or belief. But there are some that lean pretty extreme. I played in a church basketball league years ago and we had a team who was of Apostolic Orthodox. Their women were in skirts down to their ankles, and their children dressed very traditionally. Yet once the whistle blew, the grown men on their team were throwing elbows, arguing with every call, getting into the ref's face, getting into our face, threatening to fight. It was completely contradictory to the image they gave off entering the church. Wasn't just like that in our game either. We saw them a few times causing trouble and berating other teams. These are the people who act in a ridiculous manner during a simple game, yet go home and tell their children about the rest of the world living in sin and acting inappropriately.

I dunno, that's what came to mind when I saw the post. "stenchymouse" should have realized where he was posting though. The conservatives certainly outweigh the liberals on Rupp Rafters.

My point was that these people consider themselves to have a set of standards (not saying that these are better people by any means) that are bigger than sports or entertainment and when it comes to UofL sports, they lose their minds.

I'm surprised that anyone thought I meant something that would or should offend anyone.

I never purposely try to offend or hurt anyone and I'm sorry if my post did that.

You could literally post a blank line on here and someone would get offended.

You gotta give some Rick credit. He rebuilt our program when it needed it most and brought us a national title. Then he unwittingly helps burn our arch-rival's program to the ground while making it a national laughing stock. That's a great one-two punch. Bravo Pitino!

Had he meant to do that i would be with ya...however Rick was trying to make us obsolete and making UL top 5 program year in year out...failed on both

Yeah, I drink some and cuss from time to time. Where I think that is wrong is if I influence someone else who can't handle it. I do my drinking at home though I do not hide it. I NEVER did drink while my children were growing up for about 20 plus years so I hopefully did not influence them in their impressionable years. (It didn't help in this case but maybe it lessened it. (I hope).

It seems I see Christian and conservative brought up like it's a bad thing.

My take is; do what you want just don't stop me from doing what I want, or harm someone who can't defend themselves. Then Houston, we have a problem. jmuo

Agree. It's kinda funny to see people talking here about morality, honor, right and wrong. Is anyone naive enough to actually believe any of those things enter into this? Of course not. UL is a large business entity in trouble. UL went down a problematic path and built a doomed culture because it was working well for them for many years. Then they went too far, and it blew up into an uncontainable public scandal. The story got out into the national media, which means Jurich can't control it. In the corporate world, this basic narrative happens a lot. Now UL must do damage control. So they forced their President out. They forced their Board out. But bad news continues to come out, and the scandals are still not containable yet. That means more heads will roll. Not because it is moral or right. They will do it because they don't have another workable choice. It's only a matter of timing.
