For a while, I've tried to go over to the Card boards and have some low-key, semi-rational debates. But the majority of the time it's like banging your head against a wall - a very angry, bitter wall with WWII era propaganda spray-painted on it.
Now, they have some cool fans on the mainboard (not all).
And we have huge homers, too, but most of our regulars are at least willing to discuss stuff and to ridicule things Cal says (pooping ice cream, greatest night in UK history, etc)
We see Cal as a cocky, entertaining, mildly overweight guy who is, at worst, the second best coach in the country with his results on the court. When he says something over the top, most of us just chalk it up to sending recruiting messages and ignore it.
But the guys on the Card home board see Rick as some kind of savior - even when he says the most ridiculous things, they circle the wagons and go into defense mode. Whatever comes from his mouth, they insert into the gospel -They admit to using "L1C4" in normal life and use phrases like "he's not a Louisville man" if they lose a recruit to another school.
I mean, many of us accept certain Cal concepts like the "players first" thing, but we don't go around quoting it like it comes from Psalms. And plenty of UK fans disagree with him on it.
Obviously, no man that silly should be taken so seriously.
So while I never start threads about Louisville, I thought I'd make this one exception.
As many of you know, he just got a transfer from Drexel (team went 11-19 last season, going .500 in the Colonial Athletic Association), and his quote about the kid was "You know, he's a little bit better version of Ron Mercer".
Another legendary quote was when Pitt and Syracuse left the Big East for the ACC, he said "Don't run away with a girl after one date when you've been dating someone else for three or four years. You've been dating this woman for 30 years, show a little respect."
This was 2 years after the Karen Sypher scandal broke, and 3 years before Louisville left for the ACC.
What are some others?
Bring up examples where Rick faced the toughest opponent of all time, recruited the greatest shooter since (insert NBA legend), scolded reporters for lying about his 700th player getting the boot - right before it turns out to be true, etc.
