Tucker Talks Rick Pitino

No. When I see Pitino I can't help but see a dirty restaurant table.
Have you actually LOOKED at the tables at most restaurants? Looked UNDER them? They're pretty gross without a chick doing doggystyle where your glasses and silverware normally would be.

Really?

You guys laugh but if he returned you would love it. It would ignite massive energy behind a coach with something to prove

I bet the donors back it and they have the $$$$
They’re not gonna let Barney give the program to golden from florida or any other unproven yahoo. When it gets down to it the list of successful coaches will all be tainted. You get past Donovan and what do you have? The best coaches will have history hell cal had history. Even had to vacate a title game after he was brought in. And now knowing how cal operates does anyone really think he had no knowledge of camby or rose? Please? Barney hired that guy so his principles are already compromised for a successful hire. It’s the nature of todays college game. Hell many don’t want oats because of how he handled a terrible situation last year. Listen nice guy = losing at this level period.

Put some good assistants around him and money backing and I bet we’d be rolling MAN WE’RE UK AND HE’S STILL PITINO
I mean it sounds good but we tried that recently with another coach. He had more assistant coaches than players and still barely made it to the tourney to lose in the first round with arguably the most talent in the country. Hell all those assistants couldn’t even help him start his best players.

Pitino is a top 3 coach in the ncaa right now at his age. The guy takes any level team to the tournament, schools like UK he wins like a monster at UL he had them as a powerhouse. And a lot has changed with the rules to where it is a low risk hire.

Dude Pitino isn’t Cal PITINO CAN COACH . Cal can’t you do understand the difference. We have been watching the same team over the last 15 years. Cal just rolled the balls out. Every where Pitino has been he gets the best out of all of his players..

It sure would burn Cal's backside
And the fact that pitino has very good friends in the state. There’s a massive of list why do it. Small list of why not. You put pitino coaching that team this year they make a ff. Can get him cheap and go big on nil. The cost for pitino is why Barney would do it. Because at the end of the day he will compromise any principle for $$$$$. That’s his job.

There’s a man who knows a thing or two about breathing new life into basketball programs in Kentucky, and he would walk barefoot over glass from New York to take the job. Rick Pitino back in the Bluegrass would be the biggest story in college basketball, by a mile. His age, 71, is certainly a factor. And if we’re talking about baggage, Pitino comes with a whole luggage cart, but the man is a Hall of Famer who won national titles at both Kentucky and Louisville, got Providence to a Final Four and has made St. John’s relevant again.

Would that be a crazy thing to do? Maybe. Completely out of Barnhart’s straight-laced character? Absolutely. But if this search quickly goes sideways, and the “no thank yous” begin to pile up, there’s only one coach who could absolutely flip the script. That’s Pitino, who might also double as the only person capable of convincing national freshman of the year Reed Sheppard, whose father played for Pitino, to return for a sophomore season.

If this all ends with Pitino striding across a stage at Rupp Arena with Sheppard at his side, Barnhart might yet win the news conference.
No. Hell no.

Ok, I was laughing about this until he said Pitino might be "the only person capable of convincing national freshman of the year Reed Sheppard... to return for a sophomore season." I realized he's probably right about that.

But 71? Man, how much does Rick have left in his tank? I realize Rick Pitino would be one of the last guys many UK fans would consider but maybe (if we're at a point where we're getting desperate) we might see this as a stop-gap of sorts, a shorter tenure. Maybe only a 3-4 year stint before Rick retires. It really would be the story of the year for the 2024-25 season!
This makes sense but the plan should be a 5-year contract for Pitino, with the provision that his successor search would commence immediately and could be someone brought in under Pitino, as an assistant, and cultivated as the long-term replacement. This is very similar to what other bluebloods like Duke and UNC have done, rather than desperately conduct an ugly nationwide coaching search that ends up costing a fortune, which is an incredibly stupid thing to do in the first place.

This isn't 5-6 years ago. Most I talk to are over the Louisville era, the "15 seconds" jokes, and strippers.

Give him a 3-year deal, and draft an iron-clad contract that lets you out for any little compliance issue or embarrassing incident to be determined by the university's BOT.

count me in, I certainly believe tino could turn uk around and correct his legacy at the same time and I don't think it would take him long.
With that said, I doubt mitch signs off on it without real pressure from some big donors

I think Barnhart is only a portion of the folks looking for a new coach. Booster money cures a lot of ills. And you’re right, the internet would completely blow up. Talk about twisting the knife into the Tards….this would cause the bridge to collapse. Fuuuuck it I’m all in

If this was 2009, and Pitino was 15 years younger, then yes.

But it's not. I love Pitino. He's my favorite all-time UK coach. But the man's 71 years old.
