Discussion about possible inbound transfer candidates

Now that Ford is on board, I find it interesting that Ford hasn't played RT at the collegiate level. Does the staff think he's versatile enough to take that spot by the reins? Is that a common thing for OL players to be able to do?

Or, is he expected to be an understudy to Marques Cox and split the reps with him at LT this year, with an eye towards being the full-time starter next year? You really need depth across the OL, and Cox has only 1 year of eligibility remaining, so that's possible.

I ask this also because a RT transfer target mentioned early on was Josh Simmons from SDSU, a 4-star prospect in HS, and still regarded as an NFL prospect; he just signed with his hometown school. Latest I saw with him was that he was visiting the Gators.
LT requires a more versatile and athletic guy than RT. A good example is DK. He was great on the right side but most didn't think he could play LT. With that said I have read that Ford played both sides during his time at USC and is comfortable playing either. JR had said they hoped he could play RT this year then move back to LT after Cox is gone. Then Hall would take over the Right side.

There is a simple answer to this. If Coach Stoops and Coach Coen are bringing Courtland Ford in to play RT, then he can play RT. Stoops is a very good judge of talent, which is why so many of his players have outplayed their player rankings.

As long as your QB is righthanded, playing RT is generally a little simpler than playing LT. LT is one of the hardest positions on the offense to play well. However, they are different positions with slightly different requirements. BereaCat pointed out that Kinnard was better equipped physically to play RT than LT, and that is probably our best recent example.

Several more former UK targets have entered the transfer portal this week. These players were offered by UK's coaches when they were hs seniors, but chose to sign elsewhere at the time. Now they are available again. I have no idea whether these players are talking with UK's coaches, or where they will eventually decide to play. Reportedly, Coach Stoops still has at least two open scholarships.

KJ Miles, DL (GA Tech)
RJ Moten, DB (MI)
Eric Weatherly, RB (Duke)

I see you are having trouble showing respect for UK fans. This is a UK board. You could have followed GA sports for 1,000 years, and that would be unusual. But it isn't what we are here on this UK website to discuss. This thread is here for us to discuss possible inbound transfers to UK. FWIW. Please do not try to distract the thread from its subject.

That's completely bs, I have been much more respectful to UK than many fans with UK in their name. I have repeatly sad Wilcox was a good player, he just has very little similarities to Boom Williams. He is much more in the line of Kenny McIntosh, size, speed and his other skills. I saw both Boom and Wilcox multiple times live in person. Both can be very productive SEC backs, Boom was they just don't share similarities. In fact I rather have Wilcox than the back UGA signed in 23, but waited too long to recruit him. Everyone who is a fan of a different team isn't here to down UK. I would like to see UK go 11-1.

Respectfully, you are missing the point. You just showed, again, that you actually are not very respectful to UK fans here on our board, unless they want to read your posts about GA. It is not "BS". You argue with UK fans here, and not just with me. And besides, you interrupt UK threads with GA recollections, and you do it a whole lot. But this is a UK football board.

So, again, if you want to post about GA football, please use the "new thread" prompt at the top right of the UK Football home page. If some of our fans want to discuss GA football with you, then please do it on a GA football thread. But will you please stop diverting and distracting our UK football threads to discuss GA football and argue with UK fans who don't want the distraction? Or if you want to argue, do it on the GA board. Everytime I am reading an interesting thread on UK football and suddenly find myself reading about some esoteric GA factoid instead, I feel distracted. Obviously, many others here do, as well. That isn't right. Nobody is asking you to leave. Nobody is calling you a troll. Nobody is saying you shouldn't post. Just please stop hijacking our UK football threads with nostalgic discussions of GA. That's what the GA board is for. Not the UK board. Surely you can understand this.

Now, please let us discuss possible inbound transfers to UK, which is the subject of this thread.

With Ford on board, and with Tisdale and Stewart gone now, the prevailing wisdom says Coach Stoops still has three open scholarships to work with. Here are some more new entrants into the transfer portal who were recruited unsuccessfully by UK's coaches when they were hs seniors. Again, IDK whether or not our coaches are currently talking with these players.

Ajou Ajou, WR (Clemson)
Victor Jones, WR (NE)

And here are some new entrants into the portal who were NOT offered by UK's coaches when they were in hs, but might present a fit for us now. Again, IDK if these transfers have been contacted by our coaches.

Caleb Burton, WR (OH St)
Reginald Hughes, LB (Ole Miss)
Antwaun Powell, LB (FL)
JaDais Richard, DB (Vandy)
Isaac Ukwu, LB (JMad)

For anyone holding out hope the OL Pregnon from Wyoming is going to USC.
With Durojaiye transferring out, the conventional wisdom says Coach Stoops now has 4 open scholarships to offer. It won't be Pregnon, but it is a sure thing that more players will be transferring in. Judging by what our coaches have already said, it is highly likely that a LB depth piece (or two) will be incoming. Maybe a CB. Maybe another offensive lineman. I will be interested to see how Coach Stoops views our remaining roster needs.

The only QB who would come here knowing they are def sitting behind Leary in '23 is a Sawyer Smith G5 type guy

Not necessarily. It is possible that a QB with multiple years of eligibility would understudy Leary for a year and then compete for the 2024 starting job. But it would have to be someone who improves the roster. Contrary to popular belief here, our current backup QBs are working to improve and very likely will. The physical tools are there, but it is a learning process. So if we take another QB, it has to be someone who makes us better even if he sits for a year behind Leary.

Malachi Wideman, WR (JMad)
Demarko Williams, DB (Ole Miss)

This would be Foster's second transfer. He was a highly-rated 4-start dual threat QB coming out of HS and originally signed with aTm. He'd have been previously recruited by us when Gran was OC. Not sure if he'd be a fit with the current system, but who knows?

Demarko Williams is an interesting prospect. We've had recent success with Ole Miss transfers in Keidron Smith and Jacquez Jones. Is CB a position of need?

Curious to know who the staff might be interested in at the ILB position.

I’m surprised there aren’t more kickers in the portal. Would be nice to pickup someone there as well

More players who were unsuccessfully recruited by UK's coaching staff previously as hs seniors entered the transfer portal today.

Brandon Buckhaulter, WR (Ole MS)
Damond Harmon, DB, (OK)
Jalen Klemm, OL (KS St)

Already happened. Michael Bernard.
Is this the kicker from Fordham? Tried to find some stats online with limited success. Probably has already been mentioned but would someone be able to point me in the right direction to see what we’re getting.
Thanks

Yes that is him. Don't have his stats handy but Boulware recruited him.

Tell you what, I have followed UGA for 60+ years, on the 52 years ago, but from this point on I will not ask former teammates still alive who around Athens and attend multiple practices weekly for information, I will ask you who reads message boards for my information.
Good idea, we need you to spend more time talking about UK players.

Anybody who put their names in last minute yesterday probably won't be public until tomorrow

And pretty sure if a CFB player graduates at the end of this Spring semester or over summer, they can grad transfer outside the Apr 30 portal window deadline and play in 2023.

As we have seen opponents' backups do against us so many times!
That was before the portal where it was common for a guy to be recruited and know he wasn't going to see many snaps for 2-3 years. Roster management, especially at QB and even Oline has gotten more difficult with the advent of the portal. Slow cooker development has become a harder sell.

These are awful stats, especially for a kick off specialist who, presumably, would have a big leg. He only put about 12% in th eend zone and the avg was at about the 12 yd line? Is there something I'm missing?

DB Antonio Carter to visit May 13. Has already been to Ole Miss & Wisconsin, after UK could visit Iowa, Texas a&m, or Washington. Obviously a wanted guy by P5 schools, hope we impress.

Good film, guy can really run and hits hard. Would be an excellent addition.

How many schollies do we have available now that Buford and Wohlabaugh have left? I have it at 6 but that could be wrong.

Portal departures today involving Wohlabaugh and Buford have wiped out a lot of OL depth and guaranteed that our coaching staff will be taking more inbound offensive linemen through the portal. I have been updating this thread when players unsuccessfuly recruited by UK in the past became available again in the portal. IMO the departures of Wohlabaugh and Buford will compel Coach Coen to cast a wider net and bring in a couple more offensive linemen, preferably with multiple years of eligibility remaining, regardless of how familiar our coaches may aready be with the available candidates.

So here is a partial summary of some offensive linemen in the portal that may draw our coaches' interest.

Joseph Amos, OL (Boise St)
Jackson Brown, OL (Cal)
Falentha Carswell, OL (Ole MS)
Ben Christman, OL (OH St)
Dustin Hall, OL (Duke)
Jalen Klemm, OL (KS St)
Tyler Knaak, OL (UT)
Cullen Montgomery, OL (OK)
Myles Murao, OL (WA)
Colby Smith, OL (Auburn)
