Discussion about possible inbound transfer candidates

Lol.
Of course "we" are going to give him a chance.

Like I said, I am ROOTING for this kid to be successful.

If the O line isn't VASTLY improved this year over last year, it will be another bad year for our QB and the offense in general.

We finished dead last in offense in the SEC this past year and many posters were concerned about the O line before the season started.

Many are still concerned. I am one of them. Hope I am wrong this time.
We know the history. All of us do. That was last year. The 2022 horse can only be kicked so many times. This thread is about spring transfers. We are trying to discuss transfer candidates.

And on that subject, MI St DB AJ Kirk entered the portal today. Kirk was unsuccessfully recruited by Coach Marrow coming out of hs in Columbus, OH. In the 2021 class, Kirk was ranked as the #20 player in OH. FWIW.

Pretty sure Jager is a REDSHIRT Sophmore. Big difference, IMO.

I am rooting for this kid at center, but he can't be as inconsistent as he played last year.

Leary won't make it past the Florida game if he does.
Agreed, though just about everything I have heard said it was more schematic in nature than talent or technique. The calls were so long and difficult to understand and process quickly that the whole line looked like the Keystone Cops running around in circles. It was astonishing how many times the defense ran a stunt and we would have LT blocking air, LG/C double teaming a DT and the stunt running right up the middle to crush Levis and that was happening in our mid major games. I would say it was clear they had too much talent to be that bad.

Anyone else UK has reached to?
The only way to know this is if the player acknowledges it. Here are some transfers we can confidently verify are talking with UK's coaches, or have recently talked with our coaches-

Antonio Carter, DB
Jurriente Davis, LB
Courtland Ford, OL
Emmanuel Pregnon, OL

You are probably aware of them. AFAIK, no other players currently in the portal have scheduled visits to UK or revealed they are talking with our coaches. The conventional wisdom is that Coach Stoops has 3 scholarships to work with. That will change if any other current Wildcat underclassmen leave this spring, although it appears so far that there are not many outbound spring transfers this year. Maybe our coaches are already confident that most of the above names are transfering to UK. But we could hear new names at anytime. We should know soon.

Davis the LB out of JSU is out. Committed to A&M. Who else are we on at LB? Really need depth there

Yeah, lol. Really wanted that guy.
Davis may have been discouraged because D'Eryk Jackson and Trevin Wallace are returning starters. There are a number of other interesting linebackers in the portal, many probably better players than Davis. Maybe some of them will not be as easily scared off. We have no current evidence that UK's coaches are talking with them, but it seems likely.

Jaheim Thomas had been mentioned bit I read he entered to go with fickell to Wisconsin

Not what I read on your boards. Bear was roundly considered the next 1st round DT player on your team.

Based on what would he not have been the next 1st round DT for UGA? Your upper classmen are meh...Stackhouse, Brinson and Logue will get most minutes and surely haven't been difference makers and shown 1st round NFL talent. Williams is a SO and started 2 games. Looks promising but to say definitively he's a 1st rounder over Bear is wishful thinking. And he's not even a DT in NFL. Blaa? most likely 4-3 DE.
Bear was a 5 star top 10 player out of HS for a reason. you couldnt stop singing his praises when he was your scheduled starter next year. Now hes no big loss becuase of your DLine coach. uh huh... can't wait to see your tune change in the fall when your DLine is just average. You're spoiled over what you've had the last several years

You think Brinson is average? He would have gone 2nd, maybe 3rd round this year. He started on the best defense in the SEC, Williams started 15 games, not 2 at DE. Bear was not starting when he hit the portal, he was in first group to rotate in, and is a loss Yes Scott will have 8 ready to play by kickoff first game. You are going to be the one disappointed thinking. UGA will be trotting an average DL on the field next fall.

Thought about that too. Was Davis looking for a promise to start? Coach Stoops would never agree to that. Wonder who UK has scanning the portal?

Who knows? But UK fans know Stoops is looking for experienced depth at ILB, not necessarily for a starter. He reportedly had a big list of schools. But he has committed to TX A&M now. I suspect D'Eryk Jackson and Trevin Wallace may have scared him away but we will never know.

. Wonder who UK has scanning the portal?

IDK but this can be done in minutes. Like many other fans, I am convinced Stoops will take another ILB out of the portal during this window unless he just can't get the guy he wants. There are still several interesting candidates, and it seems like more are getting in the portal every day. Stephen Dix entered the portal yesterday. UK unsuccessfully recruited him out of hs in Orlando in 2020.

(let me share a little secret. The real work is put in before a kid formally submits his name in the portal. Like what Bama is doing with Miami (fl) qb right now. Backchannel recruiting happens, tampering happens, nobody want to stop it because everyone does it.)
Makes the CIA look like a bunch of amateurs

That's what my question was alluding to. UK has to have somebody(s) putting in the time on these portal guys. My guess, and only a guess, is that somebody like Mark Perry and/or Josh Estes-Waugh are laying the groundwork then turn to Stoops or assts at appropriate time. I recall reading that some schools now have a Portal Coordinator on staff.

Uh huh..so Brinson is now the 1st round talent at DT huh. Funny, that doesn't seem to be the sentiment on your board. And the "bios" of Brinson and Williams don't show them starting all those games. If those two started at 2 of the 3 Downlinemen positions and Stackhouse was at Nose...where exactly did Carter play??? Sounds like you have more starters than spots in a 3-4.

And I'm sure you'll have a very solid middle of the pack DLine this year...which will be a far cry from the last 3 years. Deone Walker will be the best Interior Dline Pro prospect on the field by a wide margin when we play UGA this year

Tell you what, I have followed UGA for 60+ years, on the 52 years ago, but from this point on I will not ask former teammates still alive who around Athens and attend multiple practices weekly for information, I will ask you who reads message boards for my information.

I see you are having trouble showing respect for UK fans. This is a UK board. You could have followed GA sports for 1,000 years, and that would be unusual. But it isn't what we are here on this UK website to discuss. This thread is here for us to discuss possible inbound transfers to UK. FWIW. Please do not try to distract the thread from its subject.

Guys. Chill. Grumpy is a long time great/ respectable poster who knows a ton about SEC football. The guy absolutely knows all about Georgia football on all levels. Welcome him and let’s get back to the topic.
As far as it goes, that may be true. Nobody says it isn't. If Grumpy wants to use the "start thread" prompt to start new threads about GA football, nothing is stopping him. He can start threads just like anyone else can. If Grumpy is interested in using the vast SEC knowledge to compliment threads about UK football with more information ABOUT THE TOPIC OF THE THREAD, I would welcome that and I imagine everyone would. Personally, I am not interested in reading Grumpy's imagined differences with UK fans, or his disrespect for some UK fans, and I don't care how long this has been going on. Everytime I am reading an interesting thread about UK football and all of a sudden the thread is diverted to a discussion about GA's football team, my eyes roll back in my head. I could just put him on ignore, but I don't like doing that. He is just as welcome here as the rest of us, but nothing fubars this website as much as posters who intentionally steal the threads and divert them off the topic, whether to end the intended discussion of UK football or just to attack a UK fan personally. That behavior makes the board less readable and less interesting. I certainly understand that hundreds of thousands of people are interested in GA football. They have appropriate places online to commune and discuss GA sports. All things in moderation. This is a UK football website.

Now, please, let's discuss the topic, which is inbound transfers to UK's football program. We are in the spring transfer window now, and this is an important discussion for UK football fans to have.

I vote for staying with the subject of the thread and respecting Kentucky. If I want to read about Georgia football, it is easy enough to access https://uga.rivals.com/

Is Courtland Ford in Lexington now?

Re Ford, I'd like to know too. Like pulling hen's teeth trying to get anything out of the KY sports media.
What KY sports media? The HL is a paywall site, and their lazy writers seldom visit the campus. Larry Vaught doesn't dig for contemporaneous news anymore. Online coverage has always been poor except for Rowland, and that is a subscription. If a secondary newspaper in the state hired a good reporter and took a serious interest in Kentucky sports and then offered it without a subscription, they would get real popular overnight.

Reminder, portal tfers from SEC schools after Feb 1 will not be eligible to play at another SEC school for the 2023 season
Thanks. Yeah... seems like any SEC player had better have 3-4 years eligibility and can't be considered if spot is held for help in '23.

I think this has been posted but anyway. Ford started his visit yesterday. He didn't sched other visits and it appears he said no to SC that tried hard to get him to visit. We shall see

Thanks. I think their definition of "soon" and my definition of "soon" are different. :)
The same thing was said about Davis and Leary and not sure the specifics but it all got pushed back a week. Most were getting antsy. He will prob finish his visit and go make a video or something. If he really isn't taking other visits unless something goes wrong this weekend that is all we need to know

Kind of shocked & surprised our post Spring portal additions is looking like Ford....and that's it. We got Davis in on a visit but bigger fish came circling in. Offered the Rhode Island CB, guess a couple others, but no more sched visits.

Wonder if we are just finding all that is available wouldn't be much help beyond what we already have. Guess it is a plus only Stewart so far has left, the rest of the roster is happy with their position and the staff is happy with them. But how is Flax gonna respond when Ford commits, could def see him go rather than potentially spend last yr of eligibility as 2nd string.

check with those guys grump but come back on here for confirmation! lol!!!

It is now being reported by public sources that Courtland Ford made it to Lexington and is visiting now, but Emmanuel Pregnon is visiting elsewhere this weekend. This is all the information I have been able to find so far.

Ford is obviously a primary target. The desired goal would be a quick commitment. If that happens, then we have our inbound candidate for the starting RT job, TBD in August. But if it doesn't happen, then we should find out quickly if UK's coaches have a plan B in mind. That isn't Pregnon, who is reportedly an OG and a straight ahead mauler whose appeal is centered around having three more seasons of eligibility.

Now that Ford is on board, I find it interesting that Ford hasn't played RT at the collegiate level. Does the staff think he's versatile enough to take that spot by the reins? Is that a common thing for OL players to be able to do?

Or, is he expected to be an understudy to Marques Cox and split the reps with him at LT this year, with an eye towards being the full-time starter next year? You really need depth across the OL, and Cox has only 1 year of eligibility remaining, so that's possible.

I ask this also because a RT transfer target mentioned early on was Josh Simmons from SDSU, a 4-star prospect in HS, and still regarded as an NFL prospect; he just signed with his hometown school. Latest I saw with him was that he was visiting the Gators.
