D-League

Here's my annual 4th of July posting from this great band. They still keep playing although Gary Rossington is the only original member left.

My wife bought a couple pounds of chuck that I'll be grinding later for burgers.

The fireworks have been going crazy all week and tonight should be spectacular. Our poor dog. She has a terrible time with it. Thunder jacket, basement and turning up the TV loud eases her suffering some but not enough.

Enjoy the holiday, stay safe and give thanks for our independence!

Large Mouth's 3 - Warrior-cat 3 so today was a push I guess. A couple of Marines from the MarDet (Marine Detachment) stationed at Sill showed up about 2 hours into my fishing day and joined me. One of them I recognized because he came through my office a week or so back to get his flight set up going to Japan for his next duty station. He was fishing with spinner bait and thought he had gotten caught up in the lake grass and weeds so he was really pulling to try and get unstuck. When he finally got the lure back in, he found a lot of grass attached to a bass that was a pretty good size. His response "It's already a good day if you at least catch one". The other one was not having any luck until I gave him one of my dark blue flaked 8" stick worm lures. It wasn't 10 minutes after that that he caught one and then another. I left shortly after leaving the them a couple more lures.

Good start to the 4th.

People often mistakenly believe that July 4 celebrates our independence from England. In fact it it celebrates our declaration of independence. England would have something to say about that. We faced a long and bloody Revolutionary War that ended at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 finally sealed the deal.

And that is the rest of the story.

Thanks for posting that, Chief. Everybody did not know that.

many times when my wife and I are out eating, if we see someone in uniform (soldiers) we anonymously pay for their food. Sunday morning we went for breakfast, in walked this older couple with him proudly wearing his Vietnam vet hat. I told our waitress that I wanted his check and for her not to say who picked up his tab..I heard her tell them that somebody bought their meal to say thank you for his service. That old man looked around the room with a smile like somebody really cares. It got to me.. Why can't America spend as much time for those who fought for our freedom, stood for our anthem, and honored our country as much as they do those who disrespect everything these people fought for? It's shameful ..

Thanks for sharing Bert, as I love anything historical. Madison is also considered the Father of some document[winking].

This post is clear evidence that you are getting ready to run for mayor again.

Told my wife I'd cook ribs today. Got em going in the instant pot right now and the whole house smells MARVELOUS! She knew I wasn't going to hang out at a hot grill for 4 hours after spending half the day in the Sun on the golf course.

These won't be the best ribs I make, but they'll be a reasonable facsimile.

(I'm the first person to use "facsimile" in the D league. I did it for Rooster.)

You had better feed that girl.

I cranked up the Kate Smith vid and had to turn it up to about 75 for it to sound acceptable. Kinda weird, even for youtube videos. Then a Scorpian's tune came on and I knew immediately that something was wrong. I checked the back of the left channel speaker and just as I suspected, it was unplugged. I put the wire back in and tightened the nut but there was still no sound. Turns out the little cat bastards had pulled both wires out of the back of the receiver. I told her that I was not happy about this. I made the point that we give them free reign over a substantial home, feed them the most expensive food we can find, and in essence give them a life equal to our own. I will not tolerate them messing with my sound!

I would like for our cats to spend a week or so in a house down the street that has inferior sound and maybe they would appreciate what they have a little better. Aaaargghhh!
