Are you old enough to have used

Pops was a HS Football HC in 70’s-80s. I remember vividly those replaceable football cleats. They were metal with a rubber casing for the cleat. Had to use a wrench to change them.

Anyone use Colgate teeth powder vs. paste? Mom bought it 1-2X. Pretty bad. Gritty. Wear the enamel right off the teeth.

I have a picture of me at two years old knocking back a nip from my paternal granddad’s Falls City bottle and another of me at about four years old with my maternal granddad’s pipe (tobacco, you nasty f$&@s) in my mouth.

I am at the cutoff line. Wore steel spikes in middle and high school (early/mid 90s), but plastic only in my little league.

I thought I was absolutelty headed to the majors the first time I walked on concrete in my high top Nikes with metal spikes with my black Rawlings fielder's glove, tan Mizuno first baseman's mitt, and TPX bat (with the wide barrel) in my Easton bat bag. Why the mismatched branding on the equipment? My folks got all that ish but the cleats and fielder's glove second hand and I didn't mind at all.

Dad used to give me sips of his wide mouth Sterlings. One time I drank too much of it. He says, "Damn Son! Go get me another one!".

When family got together in cold weather, Dad, Pops, & uncles each had their own quart bottle & glass & sit the bottle alongside their chair. I was around 3-4. I'd crawl behind the chairs and take a sip.

Yellow raincoat & hat, & black boots, each with fold over metal buckles.

Fun times. The sound of metal spikes on concrete was music to my ears back in the day. Wonderful sound.
@CatinIL

You know, given how "toned down" everything is now, it's amazing that we were allowed to play STQ and "full on" tackle football at recess.

Maybe some bloody noses, but I don't remember anyone getting seriously injured, and those tackles were "for real"

The most painful thing was probably if you landed on a rock or a tree root. LOL

Speaking of painful; remember those miniature plastic footballs? About a fourth the size of a regulation ball. A lot of times they were passed out as souveniers at games etc. They had air in them, but the ends were hard as hell. Anyway, playing football with those in the street, when it was super cold outside, and taking one of those "points", directly to the finger tip on a hard throw was excruciating. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

I took a fastball from one of those, right to the eye, compliments of Mike Budzinski one time, and that ball was practically frozen solid. LOL It felt like he'd shot me with an air rifle. LOL

Yep, wonderful memories. Mike Budzinski or "Ski" as we called him. That's a blast from the past.

CME has/had that nice flat area for recess football back behind the building, fun times. And yes, I remember those small plastic footballs. We could fire those things pretty good back in the day.

But I loved dodgeball. Nothing like going to gym class and seeing the balls sitting on those cones when we walked into the gym.

I'm sure STQ is forbidden in todays world...

I wore Blue Nike metal cleats as I was certain that I would either pitch or play Short for the Chicago Cubs.

Ryno - the best fielding percentage of any SS ever

(because he couldn't actually GET to anything) LOL

We used those in the 90’s. They had a metal tip. I wore them to play softball in a men’s league and the ump accused me of wearing spikes (which were illegal).

I dont remember them in the 90's. I know when I was old enough in late 80's to start playing JV/Varsity the high school cleats had changed to the all rubber spikes.

I’m not sure when the metal vs plastic spikes came into play, but I was born in ‘83 and moving up from plastic spikes to metal spikes from Little League to Senior League/High School was a proud moment in your baseball career.

Friday nights at Sears. Parents would park me on the sofa by the tvs with some other kids and come back in an hour.
