KSR today…..

They spent a good amount of time addressing football and the state of the program as well as the future of the coaching staff. I think it really kicked up during the last 15 minutes or so of hour one and about 15 minutes into hour 2. But they spent time on and off talking about football the whole show.

The most discussed point on the board is stoops, his staff and their potential firing/changes. Most every day is an argument about whether or not a change is warranted or even possible. In addition, there have been lots of discussion about stoops relationship with donors and also the Kentucky standing with NIL and our recruiting base. So if you want to hear a serious take from the media then give it a listen. If you don’t want to listen, here are the cliff notes

-Any talk of stoops being fired is stupid, unrealistic, and unproductive

-Kentucky’s biggest donor is super close with stoops. He would not pay a dime toward any buyout

-Kentucky cannot do what TAM did and they listed the reasons why.

-Kentucky is 13 out of 14 in NIL in the SEC

- Expect staff changes but all coordinators are safe

- Coach at Kentucky is one of the toughest jobs in America

- The state of Kentucky has no recruiting base and cited comparisons with neighboring states.

-Coen wants to focus on tempo in the offseason

I’m gonna get hammered for bringing up KSR and I don’t care and kiss my ass. It’s the biggest sports radio show in the state and one of the biggest in the country. My favorite team is UK and that’s all they talk about. So sometimes I listen, we all do. This show in particular should be required listening for a lot of folks on here since it covers every daily topic on this board.

This Just in: RAY DAVIS TO PLAY BOTH WAYS IN BOWL GAME!!

Cat fans have been treated to a 96 hour shift in emotions and expectations, as the story has gone from ,”No Ray,” to “Pay Ray,” to “Maybe Ray,” to “Ray Davis will Play.”

Now, in an unanticipated turn, Ray Davis is expected to start at both tailback and at cornerback when the Cats face Clemson in Jacksonville!!!

“All Day Ray,” will henceforth be known as “Every Play Ray,” so adjust your Christmas shopping lists accordingly.

When asked to confirm the report. Davis responded, “Just who the $&@@& started this rumor?”

Basketball Coach Cal Show News & Notes - Dec. 11

Hello all. I'll be following along with Coach Cal's weekly radio show again tonight and sharing the major talking points here for those of you who aren't able to listen to it live. Show starts at 6 ET. Stay tuned...

* Really proud of how they played a team with four great shooters and the ability to knock down so many 3s. One of those games where you had to be disciplined defensively to win. Only one moment in game where he was really disappointed, and that was letting the 16-point lead before halftime slip away. That's another sign of a young team. But good to get back to work with a week of practice before North Carolina.

* There's a chance Ugo could play this weekend.

* Penn had been outrebounding their opponents (and a good schedule) by 10 this season. Cats outrebounded them by 10. Cal says they've made it important in practice, so it carried over to the game.

* They're making some changes to what they're doing defensively "at times" this week, Cal says. Not real specific, but cites their issues keeping guys in front of them.

* We've got to find out the best way to play with two bigs, Cal says. Don't want to play high-low and jam up the lane, though.

* There were times in these last two games where they're still dribbling the ball too much and bouncing instead of whipping the ball around with passes. Gotta get that back. Gotta play fast. Gotta keep running. "... but you've got to be able to defend to do that." Need to keep playing random, get better defensively, block a few more shots. Likes the direction they are heading in order to get all of those pieces in place.

* Cal says he didn't intend to play Aaron Bradshaw that much in only his second game back, but you don't want to take him out when he's doing so many good things, either.

* Cal is watching a recruit play tonight, so Chuck Martin is stepping in to do the remainder of the show tonight. Martin says Penn is really underrated, should be getting more national attention. Dangerous team. "They're fun to watch, but a nightmare to play against."

* Martin says UNC is trying to get back to that style Roy Williams really coached where they're going as fast as they can up and down the floor. Have to be disciplined to get back on defense because they are constantly looking to attack.

* Collective IQ of this team is unbelievable, Martin says. You might notice it on how well they've executed out of timeouts this season, their OB plays.

Team question for RR

Would you be willing to "sacrifice" some of our offensive ability/efficiency, to improve our defensive ability (and rebounding) other than Steals?

Like everyone else, I loved offensively what I was seeing from UK the first 7 games of the season.
BUT... the defense had lapses (late KU game, and then UNCW) and our rebounding has been bad (which give the opponent more possessions). Those 2 are WHY we lost to KU! And the defense was the main reason we lost to UNCW.

Adding in Bradshaw, and Onyenso, hopefully even Ivisic will undoubtedly change how we play, on both ends of the court. So, I'm not ready to go off the deep end (yet) like many on this board have already done because our offense doesn't look as entertaining and fluid as it did the first 7 games. Not if the improvement in defense and rebounding more than makes up for it. And it's way too early to judge that. For example, if adding in "the bigs" takes our offense from a 9 (out of 10) down to a 7.5, but it raises our defense from a 5 to a 7.5, I consider that overall improvement.
Now would I prefer the offense to not change while the defense improves? Of course. But maybe that's not possible. IDK, and neither do you.

ALL-STOOPS PLAYERS 13-23

Offense
QB: Will Levis
RB: Benny Snell
TE: C.J. Conrad
WR: Wan'dale Robinson
WR: Garrett Johnson
WR: Josh Ali
OT: Landon Young
OT: Darrian Kinnard
OG: Logan Stenberg
OG: Tashawn Manning
C: Luke Fortner

Defense
CB: Carrington Valentine
CB: Kelvin Joseph
S: Mike Edwards
S: Lonnie Johnson
LB: Bud Dupree
LB:Josh Allen
LB: Jamin Davis
NT: Deon Walker
DE: Zadarius Smith
DE: Josh Pascal
DT: Quinton Bohanna

It all comes down to Edwards at this point.

Every one of our guys has either met (Wagner, Reeves, Bradshaw) or surpassed (Sheppard, Mitchell, Dillingham, Thiero) expectations.

Edwards is the last man to take the necessary step. His improvement this season will come. Give him time. It's just a question of how far his growth progresses this year.

If he makes it to top 5 pick level, we will win at least 30 games. I guarantee it. Every Cal team over a 7 year sample size that had a top 5 pick won at least 32 games, dating back to 1996. If he makes it to top 5-14 pick level, we will still compete beyond the Sweet Sixteen if Bradshaw stays healthy.

Get both of these guys fully going this year, and we'll be the title favorites by March.

I'm looking for Edwards to breakout in January.

One Night Only... (Afternoon really)

We are more than thrilled to be part of the #BBN!!

I appreciate all of the hello's and welcomes! I do realize this is a paid for site and while some will be super supportive there are always those Eeyore's of the world that wake up every morning and believe its only a matter of time before the sky is falling and we are all gonna die but before that happens KY will suck or... some other chapter of doom and gloom ( they pay to spew that insanity - I get it).

Brock and our family are more than thrilled to be part of the Big Blue Nation. We Believe its a great fit for everyone involved.

One time only ask your questions... I will check back later and try to answer them!! (I do have practice today - at the UGA indoor - as we prepare for the 'Ship on Monday)

Tell my wife (I did this) and I will sacrifice you to the God's!!

The Dillingham Dilemma

Last week I posted my frustration with Cal seemingly never to instruct players during a game on what to do or not. I felt we lost to UNC W partly because of Dllingham's out of control play more often than not cost points and led to easy baskets through unforced turnovers for our opponents. Today against Penn there were many of the same issues especially in the first half. But, what seems equally true is he is extremely talented. That's the dilemma. He contributes and he costs. In the first half again I was screaming take him out as he was repeating the same behavior as last game making poor passes, missing shots off balance, rushing, etc. I don't understand why Cal doesn't point what seems glaring clear out. But, then that is also his game and he hits shots several times of the "no no no good shot" variety.

Is there an answer?

Also, I would like Cal to encourage Reed to look more for his shot. Even when not doing that he basically got our team out of a tight game with his play.
