Thursday night games

I wish there was something they could do to spread things out so there are good games on more days. Right now it's basically a few on Monday, more on Tuesday and Wednesday and a deluge on Saturday. Thusdays, Fridays and pretty much Sundays are bare. Seems like they could slate more teams for Thursday and Sunday games but I'm sure there's something I'm not considering or they would monetize those days.

CBB "parity"

Can't remember if I heard this on a podcast or saw it on Twitter, but the stat has been circulating that Top 10 teams in CBB this year are a combined 32-34 on the road against UNRANKED opponents. Parity, right?

Well someone, an anonymous coach or anonymous source, said that it's not so much about NIL, transfer portal, "parity", etc. He said it's because your "elite" programs - UNC, UK, Duke, etc - don't have "elite" coaches anymore. I think his one exception was Self at Kansas, but they just got stomped on the road.

Anyhow, any thoughts on this? Major programs - the Top 10 this season - don't have "elite" coaches anymore, and that's creating more "parity" throughout CBB

UK’s current record with a good coach

What would this teams record be with this roster and a good coach?

  • 24-0

  • 23-1

  • 22-2

  • 21-3

  • 20-4

I believe 22-2. With a good coach we would have zero losses at home and would’ve won at Texas A&M.
I believe a good coach could’ve won the Kansas game as well which would’ve put us at 23-1.

Why did Cal even bother to recruit Big Z?

Remember "FREE BIG Z?" This saga lasted for months, BBN spent thousands on a billboard. The NCAA got a media black eye over it. This kid played Euro ball and had a smashing debut.

So why does he get in for two minutes yesterday? I watched the game and he didn't play badly. He's clearly getting the Hopkins treatment. You have a 5th year SENIOR named Mitchell (not to mention Bradshaw) who laid an egg last night but Big Z can't even sniff 5 minutes? You're playing guys 40+ minutes due to injuries, and you have Dilly cramping and Thiero in pain, but Z is on the freaking BENCH?

There's absolutely no excuse for this. It's infuriating to see Cal ignoring a talented freshman in favor of others who aren't as good. And don't try this "he's not ready yet" bullcrap. The season is effectively over, we're losing to unranked teams at home now. There's no reason whatsoever not to find him at least 10 minutes to get acclimated to the games. Cal gave Edwards and Bradshaw far more leash and they both have less potential. We were neck and neck with Georgia before Big Z went on his tear, and we could have used him in the last three games.

I feel sorry for the poor devils who donated money to the billboard. You got played for suckers by a multibazillionaire who doesn't give a crap about anything but his dogs.

What's the point of recruiting a one and done that you have no intention of playing?

OT - HoopGrids Trivia

I play a fun basketball/NBA trivia game most days on HoopGrids.com. You've probably seen these types of things before, where you have to name a player who fits both categories in the grid. You want to get the lowest score possible, meaning that you picked a player that fewer other people picked.

Most days I try to fill in as many former UK players as possible, and I came up with all 9 today! Here's the spoiler-free image for reference.

Happy Friday everyone!

FB Recruiting Bush Hamdan the recruiter

Here are the guys he has landed.

I would say he is a very good team recruiter. Sells the staff's concept well. Has some really good recruits to his credit.

Bruce Pearl Rotation Management

Well defined 10 player rotation since the beginning of the year. They’ve played 25 games. Throw out a guess how many games total those 10 players have missed, combined. Average minutes per game span from 14 to 24. Everyone that comes off the bench for them is aggressive. Chad Baker-Mazara plays like he’s mad that two guys on the team outscore him, and not in a bad way. Just to say that he could be a starter and lead the team in scoring and I think he knows it. Lots of love around the country for Rob and Reed coming off the bench, but no one talks about Auburn bringing Baker-Mazara, Cardwell, Holloway, and KD Johnson off the bench. None of them are efficient players at all, but they all play hard and they all have the greenlight, they aren’t confused about their roles.

How do you predict that fares against the chaos that UKs roster management has been this season? At their place? It’s not the talent level I worry about, it’s that Auburn knows who they are. I don’t want to see us get run, but it should not be unreasonable at all to be concerned.

Oh and the answer was zero games missed. Zero.

Number of Members and how many are actually online question

Something I was wondering about the other day and I haven't heard anyone mention it. Well except maybe when it first happened but I don't recall ever reading an answer why.

What I'm talking about is years ago when I first joined (Dec 29, 2002) there was a section at the top of the page that showed the total number of paid subscribers and a list of the usernames that were online at any given moment. I don't guess it's a big deal but I was wondering if any of the other "old times" on here remembered.

I'm guessing it changed when Rivals took over and the name changed from Cats Pause to Cats Illustrated. I recall that both sites continued using the same forum names (House of Blue, Rupp Rafters, The Paddock, etc.).
