Colgate led in 2nd half with 15:05 left to play 47-46

UK would bury 5 three pointers over the next 5 minutes to take over the lead 61-49 w/10:20 left.

UK would continue the onslaught by pushing the lead to a gm high 18 pts w/5:21 left in the gm at 69-51.

Thats a 23-4 run over 9:44 sec of game clock.

That, without Butler and Krissa, our 2 PGs.

Thats a vintage Ky run, down 2 PGs, that buried Colgate.

This team is capable of destroying a team in a 1/4 of basketball.

FB Recruiting Another OL to know about....

CI is hearing, both @Travis Graf and myself, that Kentucky is likely to host Bowling Green offensive lineman Alex Wollschlaeger on an official visit.

Do not have the exact date yet. He just announced his entry into the portal.

He was a third team All-MAC pick in 2023 and was first team All-MAC in 2024. One season of eligibility remaining. 6'7, 305-pound native of Aurora, Illinois.

Played 773 snaps this year and had a 76.9 PFF grade. Very good both run and pass blocking. Has played 770+ snaps in each of the previous three seasons. Extremely experienced.

Why are we like we are?

I’m in the mid 30s bunch as far as age of fan group goes. First memory I have of watching a game was the Umass game where they beat us in 95 our championship year. Why do we care so much about it? How did this all start? Other programs have rich traditions but I don’t feel like they care like we do. Why is there so many of us? Why do we have big crowds at every road game and dominate nuetral site games. How did that happen? Why do we live and die with every play throughout the season, keep up with recruiting non stop in the offseason, fill rupp arena every year for the first practice. Watch tape of the games, and watch the good games over and over 5 or 6 or 7 or maybe 10 times in the span of a month. Why is there so many die hard Kentucky fans? How did this happen? And I wouldn’t wanna live another kind of life

Cal Isn’t Coming Back

For those of you creating a hundred threads about why Pope’s offense isn’t working right due to shooting too many 3s or big man passing, etc.,

Heartfelt, I feel bad for you that you lost your hero, the two point shot king himself, John Calipari. He isn’t coming back, folks, so I guess you’ll have to put up with a highly intelligent coach running his system.

Kentucky is the NINTH most watched team in CFB

Unrelated topic from our usual coaching / portal discourse, but found this tweet interesting. Per Nielsen ratings, we seem to be a pretty decent ratings draw. I suppose there could be some additional discussion that playing in the SEC artificially raises ours, but nonetheless, eyes are on us. More than there are on several playoff teams and big brands too (Penn State, Oregon for example).

FB Recruiting Wake Forest WR Horatio Fields visiting today

Wake Forest WR Horatio Fields confirmed with me this morning that he will begin an official visit to Kentucky today.

The 6'3, 202-pound receiver is a big target and a two-year starter at Wake Forest. He had 39 catches for 463 yards with four TD this year.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

For the majority of the season Fields was three catches a game for 45 yards, about, but he had a couple of games with six shorter catches. Averaged 11.87 yards per reception as more of a possession target.

PFF gave him a 68.3 score including 72.6 in run blocking and 67.2 in receiving on 671 snaps this year.

Kentucky needs to get bigger at receiver so he makes sense.

QB Fernando Mendoza

Should UK go after another portal QB, this is my choice. Mendoza played at Cal, completed 68% of his passes for 3000+ yards(a reminder that UK hasn't had a 3000 yd passer since Hartline 15 years ago), 16 TDs, 6 INTs which doesn't knock your socks off but to watch this guy play is a treat. He's 6'5", probably 220, a RS Jr from Miami whose only offer out of HS was....Yale. He seems to be a great leader, commands the huddle, excellent teammate, hard-nosed who can run but has a really good arm. UK has thought to have offered his #1 WR, think his name is Hunter. Being from Miami makes one think they would have the inside track but there may be some left over hard feelings from his HS days. Anyway, the guy went in the portal Wed, 12/11. Fall back option would be Calzada.

Coach of the Year?

It's wayyyy too early in the season to say, but in all seriousness....

Coach Mark Pope looks clearly - at this point - to be solidly at or near the top of the list.

I know time will tell, but Coach Pope is absolutely deserving of the nod at this early juncture. The media will catch up to it in due course.

I believe, when it's all said and done, you're looking at the man that will win Coach of the Year.

Thoughts?
