Maybe the ACC's Grant of Rights isn't "Bulletproof?"

For the past year, whenever a program had threatened to leave the ACC, the conference leaders have been screaming that the ACC Grant of Rights was "Ironclad and Unassailable."

But, in that year, most of the actions (Public or Legal) taken by the ACC would imply that they don't have the confidence that their Media Rights Agreement is unbreakable after all.

Now, it's come out that yesterday the ACC has offered to "Sell FSU's Media Rights back to the Seminoles." That a negotiated amount could be a mere fraction of what the GOR had claimed the price would be.

Can we be thankful?

Fellas, had a couple bourbons tonight and was just thinking to myself how this is the best time of year. We are less than two weeks away from March. I know this year has had its ups and downs, and I know there's unrest in the program about Cal's future.... But man, can we all just take a breath and enjoy the fact that it's basketball season. Think about life on the message board in May and June. THIS it the time we wait for and our CATS just came off a huge win that could potentially propel them into March. Let's goooooo! What a life, man.

FSU & Clemson to the SEC in ‘24?

Let me start by saying I’m not overly familiar with Greg Swaim but from what I’ve gathered about him he’s a big time sports talk show host that is very connected within college sports/football.

He predicted that Oklahoma and Texas would be going to the SEC before just about anyone else. Now he’s predicting that FSU and Clemson will announce their intent to leave the ACC for the SEC this year. From a TV ratings perspective this seems like the ideal situation if we are taking two ACC programs.

He says that the Big Ten is targeting UNC and Virginia. That the Big Ten is prioritizing an AAU accreditation for any school that joins the conference even though they are shooting that down publicly. Looking back over old posts he thinks UL and the Big 12 have been in talks last year. What do we think about all of this?

*** Official CatsIllustrated Kentucky @ Auburn SEC Regular Season Prediction Contest ***

Welcome to the Official Kentucky @ Auburn SEC Regular Season Prediction Contest!

Follow the rules below and make your prediction. I'll publish the results after the game. You can put any comment you would like below your score prediction (put '***' after your prediction to make it easier to separate the comments) but try not to put anything above as my scripts may not be able to find your prediction. This is the 2nd of three prediction contests this season: the OOC Contest, the SEC Regular Season contest, and the Postseason Contest.

Whoever predicts the score closest to the actual score wins. I take the absolute value of the difference of your guess of the Kentucky score and the actual plus the absolute value of the difference of your guess of the opponent score and the actual. There is a penalty for picking the wrong winner. That penalty is the worst score among those who predicted the correct winner. In case of a tie, the tiebreaker is used. In case of a tie in the tiebreaker, we have more than one winner.

I will be awarding points for the first 10 places, including a 3 point bonus for a perfect prediction. I will track cumulative point totals and the number of games you make the top 10. This contest ends with the end of the SEC Regular Season.

Your post should look something really close to the example below. Remember the ":"s and the word "Tiebreaker:"! Do not!! use a "-" as a separator because some of our tiebreakers will be negative.

This game's tiebreaker is Kentucky FG Misses.

Kentucky @ Auburn game:

--------------------------
Kentucky: 76
Auburn: 81

Tiebreaker: 35
--------------------------

Just cut and paste everything between the lines above into your reply and then modify the scores and tiebreaker as you see fit. If you don't know how to do that, type very carefully. Remember to type in the word "Tiebreaker:" so that I can find it. Anything my scripts can't figure out will not count.

Don't edit your post or try to post a score after the game has started.

BTW I really would prefer exact names for the teams, but will try to be accommodating as long as it doesn't create too much work for me. If we are playing Louisville, just about anything not obscene will be OK.

@Deeeefense

Q1 wins for the top 16 teams

Some discussion about this in other threads but I thought I’d clean it up in one place.

Purdue - 9
UCONN - 9
Houston - 8
Arizona - 7
UNC - 5
UT - 5
Marquette - 6
KU - 6
Alabama - 2
Baylor - 6
Iowa St - 6
Duke - 5
Auburn - 2
SDSU - 5
Illinois - 4
Wisconsin - 6

We have a good chance of getting to 5 before the SEC tournament. That would mean winning at MSU and home vs. Bama. Neither easy, but both doable.

Win at UT and we get to 6. Not great odds of this, but that’s why you play the games.

There are only 6 teams in the SEC who would currently be Q1 wins in that tournament. UT, Bama, Auburn, UF, MSU, ATM. South Carolina might get there.

Realistically, that puts us with one or two more shots at Q1 wins going into championship Sunday, a game that we know doesn’t count. So figure a max of 8 Q1 wins.

Barring some kind of bizarre confluence of events, Purdue, UCONN, and Houston are out of reach. There’s a very slim chance we could catch Arizona at the buzzer due to their weak remaining schedule.

Marquette, Baylor, KU, and Iowa St will all have more chances. The latter three have to compete among themselves, so that could help us.

UNC and Duke won’t have a ton of opportunities. They play each other. They both play UVA. Duke plays at Wake.

UVA has 2 Q1 wins. Think Wake has none. Best bet for us will be UVA and Wake building their resumes at the expense of UNC/Duke.

We could conceivably catch or pass one or the other in Q1 wins.

Our best bet is what lays in front of us. Both Auburn (took care of them) and Bama are in our crosshairs. A win at UT would be huge.

Basically, moving into that 3-4 range is very much on the table with a strong finish. Moving to the 2 line is on the table with a great finish and maybe a little help. A 1 seed is almost impossible without a lot of help/luck.

The Z situation sitting makes no sense

Z has played organized basketball for quite some time. He likely has grown up playing and certainly was on a team where life is basketball. There is no doubt he is skilled. But, from the videos I saw prior to his coming to Kentucky, he was not in a center position. I believe he is not a fit for Cal's system unless Cal is willing to have him play other than low post. It truly is a shame that he is not being utilized. His impact against Georgia was game changing.
