You would think Reeves was Kobe Bryant

I mean are we seriously losing our minds over an ISU transfer who choked during the big games? Come on, this is Kentucky Basketball, I remember when we would be upset about losing out on five star players. Now we are worried about guys like Reeves, he’s nothing without this program. So let him go wherever he wants but he can kiss any chance at making to the league goodbye if he leaves. Kentucky Basketball is bigger than Reeves and they will be just fine without him. Reeves didn’t want to lose his starting role to these fiver star 18 year old players is the reason he will not return. Calipari has won with freshmen before and he can do it again.

It’s funny how negative the fan base is but it’s the truth. If you know anything about basketball you would understand that these freshman are better than Reeves. It doesn’t matter if he’s older, it’s not about age or experience
It’s not really about who’s better.
It’s about having at least one returning player from last years teams that we know can come in a hit shots if needed. Not really difficult to understand it would be nice to have the player that led UK in scoring the second half of the season return. And, we need the bodies!

Reeves also gave up the most points in the second half of the season. That is why we lost to Vandy twice in a week.

It's not about how great Reeves is - It's about squandering any other off-season help via transfers - letting almost all your roster leave - creating an atmosphere where no one besides freshmen promised playing time and demanding no competition at their position are coming - having an incomplete roster with few/no options except desperation at this point - ruining the "This is UK" standard so badly that all this and more are true - and being so arrogant that you don't care.

Does that help bring the importance of an experienced player into focus?

I basically agree with the OP. Reeves wasn't amazing. Certainly a fine player, but he was a defensive liability, wasn't clutch. Now, he got scared of better players coming in and tried to leave. And since that wasn't going to work, he's now trying to hold Kentucky over a barrel for money because Cal is desperate. Reeves will probably get caught out in the cold because the boosters will refuse to help Cal with NIL money. This is Reeves' own fault, AFAIC. Dueces.

Cal blew the offseason when he let Livingston and Reeves and Oscar hold him hostage.
Now you don’t believe this, you know Cal had the pulse on his players and had a plan if the all left. He planned hitting the portal hard and get the best grad transfers. We are KY, going to eat first, we want players that want to be here.
Issue is Nobody but freshmen are coming.

The transfer from Florida International that went to Auburn would have been a nice replacement, and I'm sure there were several others, if Reeves comes back and he's that good beat them out, pretty simple.

Didn't he enroll in classes at Illinois / Illinois State? That would mean he did leave. I prefer to not see him again. Not playing defense and getting selfish when the tourney is on the line, are not things I enjoy in a player.

He isn't coming back. He's enrolled at Illinois / State.

If you don’t understand why we desperately needed Reeves, well, then I don’t know what to tell you.

I suppose I could explain it to you, but I wouldn’t be able to understand it for you.
Or me. You don’t explain it because there is no explanation.

Reeves is a practice player. Nothing more.

He’s not really even a practice player since he doesn’t guard. And can’t play the point for the scout team either.

With Reeves’ situation I’m reminded of this post:

Last year remember he was barely a top 40 transfer. This year it would probably be closer to top 10 and being last in order of deciding would drive up value due to scarcity of talent in theory.

Reeves probably thinks he’s worth that half mill. Cal probably doesn’t think the defensive liability that adds little outside of scoring/shooting is worth a massive bag. Hard to disagree with either in their thought processes but sadly probably doesn’t help the current team.

We desperately need ANYONE. Last I checked you need 10 guys to practice/scrimmage. And I’d rather have him than a 3-star frosh.
Why do we desperately need Reeves? So he can go 0-14 from three or get blown by on defense? The sky isn’t falling, heck he would’ve came off the bench probably anyways. You can’t tell me Dillingham isn’t better than Reeves, do you see Reeves getting comparisons to AI? NBA level Talent > Experience

3 star freshman? Do you understand Reeves was UNRANKED in high school? The point is rankings simply do not matter. Reeves shot the ball well but that is it, he did nothing else good for the team. It’s a day and night difference when you compare these freshmen who have nba talent to a guy who transferred from ISU. Idc what you say, I’m talking these freshmen over Reeves any day of the week, matter of fact I hope Cal schedules to play the team Reeves ends up at, let’s see whose better.

First of all you are repeating a false claim (that Reeves choked during big games).
Yes he was horrible vs KSU. And he was fantastic AT Arkansas (& other big games).
ALL (99%) shooters are streaky!!! That's a FACT.

The problem is, he is was looking like our ONLY returning shooter, and we aren't sure any of our FR can fill that role.

Bingo. I’ve tried to argue with the crowd that says he chokes in big games. It’s not worth it. They remember the KSU game (yes he couldn’t hit 💩) because it was the last one.

Outside of maybe Shep…none of the freshman will shoot from deep as good as reeves has/will likely do

So it’s not unreasonable to want to add an experienced shoooter to balance out the roster

The same mantra was said of Livingston last year and Chris was way less a player then reeves

But keep flipping thru HS ratings and assume they’ll all hit

Reeves in some “big games” from 3, other than KSU since we know he couldn’t throw in the ocean that day.

Providence - 5/8
Arkansas - 2/4
Auburn - 4/7
Tennessee - 1/3
Kansas - 0/3
Bama - 4/7
UCLA - 2/8
Michigan - 3/4
Gonzaga - 2/7

23/51 in some of the bigger games on the season. Didn’t shoot well in all of them but give the “choker” stuff a break.

This team needed his shooting badly.

I mean, right now Reeves is the difference between having “an ISU transfer who choked during the big games” and not even having “an ISU transfer who choked during the big games.” In that math of course we want him back. Duh.

And you’d think John Calipari was John Wooden, according to some of you. If you still support Cal after the Matt Jones piece, you’re of inferior intellect.
Wooden had "NIL" monies to offer per the car dealer-name escapes me-back then, and it payed off in 8 consecutive championships aka UCLA Invitational. Money talks b.s. walks. other schools now have the bucks to offer and a player has to decide-How much is enough?

Cannot defend me and I m in my 70’s

I made a similar post in a previous thread. While it’s a bad loss for next year’s team that, as constructed, will struggle to make shots — the bigger concern is that we’re praying a 3-point specialist from Illinois State returns because we can’t sign anyone else.

Reeves is not a savior. He’s not a walk-on. He’s the most recent/relevant example of how John Calipari has lost control of a program that once produced 5 first round draft picks.

The fans wanted Calipari to recruit 5 stars again and he did just that, he put together a hell of a team and he isn’t finished. But now all of a sudden that isn’t good enough, we need some NDSU player who averaged 20 points in a weak ass conference. Haven’t we learned that outside of Oscar no transfer has been great at Kentucky, but you know what has been great? FIVE STAR FRESHMEN….. tired of the negativity. Enough talking, we will know a lot about this group in July when they play.

They are going to suck man. We all know it. You know it too.

Just remembered the car dealer--Sam Gilbert--Wooden's built in NIL
