leaving the opponents 3 pt shooters WIDE OPEN???????

With (3) 7' footers and Tre, why not rotate in the lane WITHOUT leaving the 3 pt shooters?????!!!!

We give up WAY too many open 3 pt attempts.

Then you add in that fact that Cal NEVER runs plays to free up his scorers. The Pick-And-Roll at the top is NOT an offensive set that will succeed against STRONG defenders.

I'm SOOOOOO sick of seeing these 2 areas that KILL us in tough games!!!

I honestly think he runs these pick-and-rolls because it's minimal effort coaching. If you really want to teach plays, THAT takes time but is worth it if you have guys playing multiple years for you, but Cal doesn't want that in his system.

It’s not working, yet we stick with it. Idk but he needs to change something quick on that end.

Cal used to get so pissed when a guy would leave a shooter. He would scream at the kid, point and call him out like an ump and in came the sub. There are legit times to double but with Cal he seems like he is all or nothing. Almost like he doesnt game plan against opponents but runs a scheme all game regardless of personnel of the opponent.

Not sure why we kept trailing their guards and never going under the screen from 40 ft away??? You trail a shooter/scorer……that’s what they want lol. Multiple options for them & puts the defenders on their heels, that’s an adjustment I keep waiting to see for yrs.

Our guys looked scared out there, rob had his moments as well but everyone backed down from pressure and when things got physical. Better grow a set soon cause we are at Arkansas Saturday with games at auburn and Tenn just to name a few.

On the play at the end of the first half , their player was stuck in the lane with at least one seven footer between him and the basket , meanwhile our guards are in no man’s land at the free throw line watching while they have a shooter at the top of the key! There was no reason to leave that guy !

Cal's defensive philosophy is to funnel the guards to the elite shot blocker in the middle. Problem is, we are not funneling, because our guards get blown by all the time. That causes out wings to sag off and help defend the driving lanes... Which in turn results in kick out threes. Sheppard is really bad at sagging off to gamble on the driving lane. But all 4 of our guards can't keep people in front of them. We don't have any real good on ball defenders outside of theiro. We have alot of high risk gambling defenders. You can also see this in our offense. You can tell they are not use to high pressure in your face guarding, because it's obvious we don't practice that way.... We have alot of dogs on offence, but not many on defense. Get up tight and hound our guards, play the passing lanes and get a body on our big and you will beat us.

Ive been talking about leaving shooters for help defense all season. It's not going to change any time soon. You aren't going to be good defensively if you are already out of position to begin with. Either you double their ass aggressively right away or you don't double at all.

One instance tonight. Guard being driven toward the basket and Bradshaw not only lazily goes for the double he positions himself behind our guard. What tf are you going to do from that position? You aren't going to block the shot. You have someone between you and the ball.

We accept screens. We don't hard hedge. Our guards let their guys get by them and then try to reach in and steal instead of keeping them in front of them. That shit works in HS, but it isn't going to work consistently in college. You can't just hope players are going to miss wide open shots. A guy who shoots 20% can still make 15 in a row in practice if nobody is guarding them. It's just a complete mess.

He guards too far from the basket. Instead of guarding 22 ft from the basket he wants to pressure 30 ft from the basket and get beat and have to recover and give up a wide open three .
